Islanders up 4-0 with only 26 minutes played, this is going to be a massacre! Their not even fielding their strongest 11.
Islanders 8-0 George Town The Final Round looks like this: Puerto Rico Islanders Caledonia AIA W Connection Antigua Barracuda
My guess is that since T&T already hosted a group in this tournament, Caribbean clubs tend to have trouble getting visas to go to Puerto Rico on short notice, and a certain Mr. Derrick won the CFU Presidency, the last round will be held in Antigua and Barbuda.
Antigua plays the U.S. in world cup qualifying in June. With WCQ starting in June and the Champions League starting July 31, the CFU needs to get the finals done. The Islanders have games scheduled through June, but I'm sure can send a reserve team to the NASL if they have to. The PR naitonal team plays Nicaragua the first weekend in June. I guess the finals could be the second or third week in June. With the CONCACAF President being from Grand Cayman, the teams might play there should Antigua not be available. Who knows? We will probably wind up going to Trinidad. I am sure it won't be PR.
Yep it's going to be anywhere but PR, mostly likely it would be Trinidad. With the new CFU head actually being the Barracudas owner will probably see a push to have it before the WCQ.
Intru, I heard yesterday that the AIA Caledonia coach is also the coach for the Guayana natinoal team. They play Mexico to start WCQ. So that compounds the problems. But like you, I think CONCACAF will insist the CFU get this over with. We are the only part of CONCACAF to not designate our Champions League teams.
Antigua Barracuda gives lots of players to Antigua and Barbuda. I hope both have success for the rest of the year.
I believe you're talking about the CCL itself. As for this competition...given the delays, I am starting to suspect that the CFU might make a last-minute format change to have semifinals, a third-place match and a Final (two matchdays instead of three). In which case, I'd fully expect them to do the same thing as in 2009, when the two Trini teams had to play each other in the semifinals (i.e. the draw would be W Connection vs. Caledonia AIA, and Puerto Rico Islanders vs. Antigua Barracuda).
We are now one day away from the month of June and six days from the CCL draw, yet there is still no word on when the Final Round will take place. But congrats to everyone who had T&T pegged as the host.
I'll repost this idea that I posted on Paul's blog, because I really do not want to see any tanking in this tourney: CONCACAF should let the CFU champion have first choice on which CFU slot he wants. Runner-up gets 2nd choice. Which means that the CFU slots in the upcoming draw should be unnumbered. Then the slot the CFU champ picks becomes CFU1, and so on.
So, take your pick -- LA, Seattle or Chivas. LA's probably the worst of the choices at the moment, but do you really want to try and come in 3rd?
First, how fortunate is it for your teams to come in second in both of the CFU Club Cup groups and yet they get to play at home in the finals. But alas that is politics. Second, I believe the Islanders are the top team in the Caribbean. But they have to prove it. As far as the CCL groups go, the Seattle, Marathon group is a groupf of death. I think the Chivas group is most favorable for the Caribbean Club. The third place team might deal with LAG but Metapan was a quarter-finalist this year. Islander fans remember our debacle there last year. My thought is take care of CFU business and let the CCL chips fall where they may.
You guys think Guadalajara will be easier? Why would you rather be in Guad's group? They are a better team than Seattle.
Well I wouldn't want any of the two but because the Islanders are going to win the CFU I'm bitching about the group we will be in.
