Comedy gold, Walker wins an election and makes good on campaign promises. Out of state unions force an expensive and undemocratic recall rather than waiting for the next election and now it looks like the recall will go poorly for the union thugs so Thomas declares whole process a threat to democracy in America.
By not giving any political support to Barrett. Obviously he didn't want to associated with another failure.
So out of state powers created an 'undemocratic recall' (which is only true is the signatures for it weren't valid; I mean, people IN Wisconsin signed the recall petition, no?), while the out of state donors who've overwhelmingly bankrolled Walker are, what, a shining example of democracy in action?
Completely untrue on every single count. Or at the very least extremely disingenuous. 1. People have opted out because there's no point to paying dues when the union can't collectively bargain. Isn't that self-evident? 2. It's most definitely fair to blame the law. The "slice" of contributions that unions provide makes them the only non-corporate or right wing sources of campaign funds in the top 10 and the only defense the left has against a complete deluge of money from the right. 3. It hasn't taken effect? That's after just 1 year. Tell me those numbers don't impact the ability of the unions to fight back, both with advertising and with grassroots organization. 4. Result: A spending advantage for Scott Walker of 7 to 1. That's SEVEN. To one.
Actually, no one thought he would scrap contracts negotiated in good faith. He wouldn't have promised anything like what he wound up doing, because it would have come across as crass even by Republican standards and it would have hurt the party down ticket. So, while you and the head of the RNC are saying "Walker kept his campaign promise" (hmmmm. Matching talking points. Coincidence? Probably not.), it's not true. In fact, it is pretty close to a lie.
Well, if you want to find out, just research the total dues paid post-passage, and then give me an estimate on what percentage of those dues you believe go towards campaign contributions.
http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin...sin-gov-scott-walker-says-he-campaigned-his-/ Oh, in addition to vfish and the RNC, Scott Walker lied about this, too.
I wish that mattered but I fear that between Koch monies and the public's dislike of unions, this Walker fellow will prevail.
Actually, he did the exact opposite of what he campaigned on wrt this issue. Lying or stupid, again, are the choices on the table for TP boy.
Or I could just stop responding to you until you say something that indicates the work I put into my responses caused your brain to digest new information, rather than to search for the next "out". I'm not your ********ing research assistant. The data is out there. And, in my experience, what it points to is pretty clear.
Just curious as to what you're looking at, as the numbers don't really seem to bear that out. The drop in union dues may have had a marginal effect, but the main reason for the drastic difference is out of state funding. Remember, the Wisconsin law doesn't affect unions in other states.
It's weird blaming the recall on "out of state forces" when the governor himself was elected by out-of-state forces in the first place.
No kidding....And how disingenuous ... to be outspent by 7-1 by OUT OF STATE resources (read corporate sources) against unions who dare question a law that basically kills their power, and the only sort of buffer against what Citzien United coupled with bully governors in bed with corporations has allowed to occur.......7 to 1 Too close to call according to NBC news....
it matters how it turns out..but i gotta say i am proud of the effort these people have put forward to try amend what has been done..... When i hear the complaints about money spent on the recall process itself (not the campaign contributions) i do wonder...IF you are a Republican i guess the trillion that went down the drain in Iraq has been forgiven, or that "money wasted" was simply fine....
The same polling that kept showing Walker with the lead also kept showing Obama winning. WTF Wisconsin. You confuse me.
