There is gonna be alot of Scottish fans at the game in Jax. I'm assuming they are a big reason why ticket sales are so good for a friendly.

Would be good to see a strong U.S.A. presence there, though. Hopefully that is the case.

And again, Scotland is a much bigger opponent than Antigua. Even though its a friendly and the Tampa game is a World Cup qualifier, Scotland is always going to be a bigger draw, both from U.S. fans and visiting fans. Plus its on a Saturday.

Funny how the line "El Ecuador" is spanish for the ecuador.

But the country does not follow the same translation. "El Ecuador" is the Ecuador.

So the next thing out of people's mouths is that Jacksonville needs a MLS team because they drew 44k for a Int friendly.

Really happy that Jax had such a pro USA crowd. Good for them. Would be fun if they got a qualifier as well, only four hours away!

Now move our game to Saturday night and give us pretty much ANYONE other than Antigua as an opponent so that way maybe no one would have anything to cry about when we only draw 15k for this game. :D

Not sure how accurate this website is, but very interesting and pertinent info for anyone who plans to give Tampa Bay a hard time should we draw "poorly" for our qualifier.

    highlights include:

    Jun 13 04 W 3-0 Grenada 9,137 Columbus, OH, USA (WCQ’06)
    Nov 17 04 D 1-1 Jamaica 9,088 Columbus, OH, USA (WCQ’06)
    Aug 16 00 W 7-0 Barbados 18,334 Foxboro, MA, USA (WCQ '02)
    Oct 12 05 W 2-0 Panama 9,192 Foxboro, MA, USA (WCQ’06)
    Nov 19 08 W 2-0 Guatemala 9,303 Washington, DC, USA (WCQ’10

Poor attendance happens, even in cities that usually draw very well for world cup qualifiers and especially when we play smaller nations.

I was up in Jacksonville for the USA/Scotland match & I was surprised to see how we (U.S. Supporters) outnumbered the Tartan Army. We probably outnumbered them 75%-25%. I'm hoping that the results of the next 2 friendlies (vs. Brazil & Canada) will help boost ticket sales for the Qualifier here in Tampa.

Duemig took a caller this afternoon about the qualifier (and was giving away a pair of tix) and then talked a bit about the USNT, Tampa, the World Cup, and the Glazers/Man Utd connection. I appreciate that he talks soccer (at least international/Euro soccer) from time to time, but he is so uninformed at times. He kept talking how Tampa drew 45,000 for a friendly against Costa Rica when it was actually 32,000 against Ecuador.

I have also seen some advertising (print, TV, radio) for the game, so that coupled with the US being on TV for three friendlies this week should spark some ticket sales.

Nah. That would justify Miami via its Barca matches, and we all know the truth about Miami. ;) But I do think they should get a minor-league pro team.

BTW: According the Wikipedia, our 2010 3rd round qualifier v. Guatemala was actually at the Dick.

I'd think anything between 15k and 20k at this point is pretty nice, all things considered. At one time I had hoped for more, but obviously wasn't thinking hard enough about it.

Doesn't matter, I'll be there and its' going to be a fun game. Keep spreading the word!

AO Tampa announced that they've sold out their section (#123) for this match! Plus, I've been talking to people who've told me they've just purchased their tickets. So, after a very slow start, it looks like we might get a decent turnout on Friday. :)

Things are picking up! Might have a decent little crowd after all. We are playing one of the smallest Island Nations in ConcaLaugh, on a Friday, in the semi final qualifying round. We all had our hopes up way too high for this one, me included, but if we get anywhere near 18 to 20k I'd say that is really nice.

Not ALL of us. Taking the opponent, day of game, that 'other' Florida US game just 2 weeks ago, High school graduations, etc in account... Anything over 15k would be a success. With Tampa Bay's fickle walk up crowd, if the weather is good.. then 18-20k is a great crowd.

On a side note. I wonder how many of the A&B players are from B? None of the current teams in the A&B Preimer Division are from B.

My fav stadium name has to be "Mock Pond Playing Field"; home of All Saints United FC. Thank goodness they don't play in a REAL pond. ;)

Also, we forget that in other games against higher profile opponents than Antigua & Barbuda, we get a good number of the Away Fans buying tickets. Unfortunately or Fortunately(However you want to look at it), I don't expect very many supporters for A&B compared to other National Team's that the U.S. has played against here in Tampa over the years. I'd be very surprised if I saw more than 5% of the stadium consisting of A&B supporters at the game on Friday.

If Tampa is counting on Antigua fans to fill the stadium, they are in trouble. Jacksonville's game was perhaps 80 % pro USA fans. Would have bee at least 30k or more if just US fans attended.

If the idea that MLS is looking to Florida for expansion, this would not bode well for Tampa. I read all sorts of excuses - from rain to graduation. All lame excuses for real soccer fans.

Jacksonville United (NPSL) drew almost 1,000 for the Open Cup match against Tampa Bay.

The Rowdies didn't do much better hosting MLS' Colorado Rapids a week later. Al Lang baseball field looked empty.

Orlando and Jacksonville look to be more interested in pro soccer. Orlando get my nod for MLS and Jacksonville maybe a USL Pro team. As for the JAX Destroyers - its everything that wrong with trying to be a pro club.
