fantastic news... one transfer done, another one negated (Hazard) before the window is actually open so we know what our options are and can move forward. I look forward to Shinji linking up with the team. I think he's a special talent and will do well with us.
Hopefully it's in the vein of the Nani-Anderson-Hargreaves summer with some quality solid signings, hopefully with a proper pre-season too. Nice to get things done
In terms of quantity that's the least we can expect. But we also need better quality. Ando and Hargreaves never panned out. We need contributors.
I meant more on the imitative of the transfers. We had targets in mind and we went out and paid what they cost and got things done, they were proper prospects too, not Manuchos and Bebes. Hargreaves would have been a good signing if he wasn't made of glass and well Anderson just didn't progress the same way Nani did, but at least we tried and aimed higher, which is more than can be said recent times.
Happy with the signing in general. We didnt overpay for him. Hes young, and has the talent to break through to another level. By all accounts he has a good attitude and work ethic, so should fit into the club in that respect. And he will sell a crapton of shirts. Im not as convinced as others that he actually solves any issues for us tactically. We will either need to play him out of position, or Rooney out of position to accommodate him in a 4-4-2. I am unsure that Kawaga / Its a big ask to play him in a 2-man CM. He would do better as part of an interchanging attacking 4-2-3-1, but we dont play that formation. I guess we shall see what else the club has planned.
We tried to get Ozil. We tried to get Benzema. It's just not true that United have not aimed high. They've just not offered enough money/been attractive enough.
I don't think he was the difference between being Good and being world beaters, but he definitely had a use in the side. His match at RB against Barcelona was definitely useful and he gave an experienced body in midfield. I think if he had been injury free (or say on the equivilant of Carrick in fitness) he probably could have added to the team, especially since he was never really replaced, he was always waited upon and just left a gap. So maybe I'm just really saying having anyone would have been better than Hargreaves the Cripple I just think those were the last time SAF went out and signed players that were needed (Berba wasn't needed, he was a luxury and was not the player for the place we had in the team)
Perhaps we aimed too high, we constantly seemed to put all our eggs in one basket, they were good players sure, but we had quite obvious holes that could be fixed (such as CM) with good players rather than World Beaters. Also the "not offered enough money" as you mentioned was sort of what I meant, Hargreaves especially we put our money where our mouth was (admitably he we could convince to come, Ozil and Benzema not so much) but we paid the price required for the player we needed. Lately we've seemed to throw in the towel at the first chance we get. For the rumoured 14million Pounds I think we've done well, do we expect him to be 6 million shitter than Henderson and Downing
I know it sounds cynical, but the Japanese market will probably help pay for this transfer in the way Korea did for Park. It's not why we bought him, but its a good bonus if you want to look at the financials of the deal.
Good signing, dont think he is a special talent but he is a very good player, I am with Holy_Joe, hopefully we will add two more and those will be special talents, if we got enough juice for Hazard we could get another same level of talent and a very good midfielder like Strootman and this will be a very good window except for a LB for which we can just keep Fabio. Someone who could play on the same wavelength of Nani, Rooney, Kagawa and/or Welbeck and we would have a very potent attack, my only hope is we have been looking for such a player to play LW/AM for a time now.
Of course that is not even mentioning the commercial benefits we can have of having an Japanese superstar, I wonder what his wages will be I think around 100 k. I wonder what shirt no he gets.
The important thing is that he definitely suits playing at a higher tempo, and can contribute well to our short range one/two touch passing game. I think he'll interact very well with Young and Welbeck, hopefully with Nani and Rooney too. Very good signing, particularly as a replacement for Berba we'd be more willing to use with confidence in big(/any) matches. I'm convinced he'll prove to be one of the Prem's better signings come May next year.
Hoping. He would offer more flow than Rooney in a 10 role but lesser goals imo, I wonder if we will use him as a wide 10 if we dont get an LW/SS we have searched high and low for a few seasons now. -----Nani--------Rooney------Kagawa ------------------Welbeck----------------- Not his best position at all and he will come inside by natural instinct.
Positions in that system for the 3 (and indeed Welbeck the way he plays) are nominal. The system would thrive if the 3 were allowed to go as they please. We don't need Kagawa to stay wide to develop width. Welbeck and Rooney drift to the flanks, and although Evra isn't very good at crossing, he still makes plenty of forward runs. Happy with the signing depending on how much we paid. I think he'll do very well.
this. Welbeck tends to find time and space on the ball on the left flank a lot. It would not surprise me if that front four looked like this from time to time: Danny-----------------Rooney---------------Nani ------------------------Shinji also, the possible commentary from a team move involving RooneY, NanI, DannY and ShinjI would be fun.
Would need another player with ability to beat a man and go wide if needed other than Nani if we are going to be potent, Kagawa Welbeck and Rooney is very nice but lack a very vital ability to take on players.
