Looks like Houston made a good hire: http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/060112aaa.html
Houston's hire is ehhhh. He has been avg at best as a head coach. Here's his HC record, which doesn't include his stellar 2011 campaign, which was 7-9-2. Thought they might have snagged someone better as they head into the Big East. Or at least someone with ties to the region. Head scratcher this... Record as a Division-I Head CoachYear School Record (Conf./Finish) Notables 2005 Evansville 10-8-1 (1-5-0/6th) MVC semi-finalist 2006 Evansville 10-9-0 (3-3-0/3rd MVC finalist 2007 Evansville 10-5-3 (3-1-2/2nd) MVC semis/regional ranking 2008 Akron 7-9-2 (2-7-2/11th) Opened season 5-0 2009 Akron 9-7-2 (7-3-1/2nd) MAC East Champions 2010 Akron 7-11-1 (5-5-1/7th) MAC East Runner-Up Career Total 53-49-9 (14-15-4 MAC, 7-9-2 MVC)
Will this ever end? Ok, who does Akron get? Vern croft is an assistant with head coaching experience or do they open it up?
NO!!!!Not a good hire. The AD hired his buddy, didnt open it up to even see who wanted the job?HE GAVE IT TO someone with NO TX Ties. Hell, his assistant was hird at UTX CC, with only a low license. Also a TERRIBLE hire, and a Terrible coach! Big East just got Easier. I take it this means Eric and the other coach are out...at least after the year? Akron coach is a JOKE of a hire. IMHO.
I'll use big letters too. Did you, or a friend, not get the job? YES!!! A GOOD hire, especially after some of the people that interviewed and could've had it. It's Houston....who the hell were you expecting? List some names. And, the Big East is NOT all that after Notre Dame. Pfau will be fine and is NOT A JOKE.
Guys, it's Houston for crying out loud! When have they been relevant? Chris will be fine and it's only the big east ( or after ND leaves) just another mid major.
Every club coach in Texas thinks he ought to be, at a minimum, the coach of the Longhorns . . . so every time any college coach not coming off a national championship shows up in Texas . . . Of course, there ARE some very good coaches who could've been interviewed at Houston and weren't . . .
I never hear any news from that state, much less DSU. Are they just an underperforming program? I used to have a DSU soccer tee, but never been down there.
I was pokign around the SMU roster to see what Chris is going to be working with....not bad at all! Just curious though, why only 15 players? Erwin did that much damage?
SMU Players are happy with the hire. as well are we Alumni. The roster will be fine. wait and see as player come back after tornado Erwin has passed.
Now that my daughters team is being affected I wanted to put my thoughts out there. She had coach Pfau at Akron and he was the best coach she has played for. We are disappointed at his departure, but know that it is a great opportunity for him and his family. We also know that the team and parents at Houston will be very pleased to have him as their new coach. At Akron, all we know is the Administration had a conference call with our team and the new players and told them they will have a coach in place in 2-3 weeks. Our daughter has told us the team fully supports their new assistant Vernon Croft to get the job.
Great decision for Akron: Vernon Croft named interim head coach. http://www.gozips.com/landing/index That's why you have former head coaches on staff! Look around at the programs that have a "plan B" in place with an assistant who has head coaching experience. GREAT HIRE!
Now let's see what Minnesota decides to do. I hear they are adamant about hiring outside of the current staff. At this time, they need to find a quality assistant that has Big Ten ties but there has been turnover this year. Roh (Minnesota), Merideth (Iowa), Alcia (Illinois), and Duerst (Michigan). Non Big Ten coaches... Maybe Chastian from DePaul?
LAMAR..................? Who is in the running for that job? Houston...........i dont care. SMU will be back on top soon.
If Chris didn't seem to care at Texas, I doubt he will at SMU. Maybe the kick in the pants at UT will jump start him. Bu to predict SMU will be on top soon is pretty premature.
Chastain has a record of 33-60-6 over five years at Depaul, and 3-14-1 last season. Her best record is 11-9-2. She has had 5 straight losing seasons in the Big East. No way Minnesota hires that.
If it's true that they have to hire a current DI head female coach, who else is gonna bolt at this time? St. John at Butler is not successful. I think you run out of options really quick.
Nobody in their right mind is going to leave a stable situation with two months to go until the upcoming season, so I'd just stick with the current staff in the interim this season. If they want female and successful, why not throw money at Marci Jobson? Likely still has some regional ties after coaching at NIU earlier and has done a fine job at Baylor.
