You get me all excited to open this thread and find out whether we cut Jordan, Barrett, or Stephens (or all three) and all you do is give me this? Keane has been gone to Euro 2012 for the last two games and we weren't winning with any of these three anyway.
Why Jordan is still in MLS, much less playing for LA, is a mystery to me. The guy just isn't close to MLS quality and there are dozens of players on NASL and other lower division teams like the Railhawks that are better. I'd take the Railhawks left back over Jordan in a minute.
I'll defend Jordan being on the team to the extent that at that end of the bench in MLS you can't expect much. Normally those slots would rotate through players on the hope you find someone with some growth potential, but in BJ's case it may be more what he brings to the team dynamic in training and the locker room. He seems like a well liked guy by his teammates. And while as fans we may yearn for only the best players to make the roster, I think finding the balance in personalities is critical in managing a team and something Bruce has done well in the past. It's not the reason we aren't doing well, but I think the loss of Ricketts and Birchall, two players who apparently trained hard and were locker room favorites, may have impacted the team dynamic in a subtle way. So perhaps BJ stays more because of what he brings to the team Mon-Fri than on game days.
agreed 100%. Jordan always seems to be involved in all the non-match Galaxy events. I think the most obvious cut here is Barrett, ESPECIALLY for his salary. Boyens needs to go as well. I'd like to see Perk be traded for a better GK prospect, he isnt cutting it. We need to buy a fast winger and perhaps trade Cristmann for another bench striker.
ATTN: MLS Cristman, Barrett, & Boyens. All three are available for one 4th round 2019 supplemental draft pick. Whiling to throw in one time Olympic hopeful Michael Stephens too. Serious inquires only!
Agreed. But I'd package Stephens in with Barrett to sweeten and entice, just to unload Barrett contract and free up some cap space. I don't nearly despise Stephens as much as I did Cardozo.
The reason Jordan is still on the roster is that he is FAST, and is servicable (in a pinch) in any position except CB. He's played LB, RB, outside mid, and forward for us. he could even play a Dmid if needed, and he can go 90 minutes after not playing for a month. Are we going to win the league if he is starting for us regularly? No. However, it's tough to find a player who can fill all of those roles and still be a good locker-room guy. I have no problem with us holding on to Jordan. Then again, I have no problem with us letting him go if there's an upgrade to be had cheaply. EDIT: Stephens is similar, but with a little more skill, and a little less pace.
This just in: Ron Waxman @RonWaxman Best of luck to newest @NewYorkRedBulls player Bill Gaudette, obtained in a trade with @LAGalaxy. St. John's University star returns to NY. Anyone got any idea what we got back?
And I wonder who our third goalkeeper is going to be now? A hg signing or maybe someone from the lower leagues?
More likely that we don't pick one up and use the MLS pool keeper should something happen. EDIT: Well I was half right. We signed the Brian Rowe who was in the MLS Keeper pool. http://www.lagalaxy.com/news/2012/07/la-galaxy-sign-goalkeeper-brian-rowe
Of all the teams he had to sign for the scum... Quality signing by you guys... Rowe had a school-record-tying 8 game shutout streak for us last season.
This isn't really a move but it is a little update on Leo. He seems to be at least a month away if not more. Wonder if he will be able to make it back this year? http://www.lagalaxy.com/blog/post/2012/08/21/leonardo-gradually-working-his-way-back-knee-injury
I’ve never been sold on Leo so the idea of inserting him in the team heading in to the play-offs concerns me greatly.
so can somebody with medical knowledge or who slept at a holiday inn last night tell me the difference between Leos and Omars injury and why its taken Leo so much longer to get back Thanks
lol, brilliant. i think Leo reaggrivated the injury and had some complications from surgery. whereas omar sorta did perfectly well.
Also Leo tore his MCL and LCL while Omar tore his ACL. I'm not a medical doctor or anything but from what I have read the former is much worse because it messes with the stability of the knee. It's kind of like the knee is actually hanging by a thread. Rebuilding it takes a long time and he definitely re-aggravated it when he came back a little too fast. Omar on the other hand seems to have really fast healing qualities because he wasn't suppose to be back until the end of august at the earliest.
But, would you rather have him on the bench than Lopes or a young Meyer? At this time I would say yes. By this time next year Meyers may have passed him, though. I think we should just shut him down for the year if he isn't playing in that reserve league game on sept 4.
50/50 I was never particularly impressed with Leo, he seemed just as capable of bone-headed mistakes as Lopes and now he’s been out for 18 months with a brief spell of training/playing with the first team. Better the devil you know in the playoffs.
Sports are cruel - I wonder if his career is over? I'd like to see Leo play for us again after all of our investment and all of his suffering.
Yup and we just bought him over the offseason. I think that he will have one more year to prove to the coaching staff that he has what it takes or we will release him or sell him back to a lower division team in Brazil.
