Your friends only had one type of drink on offer? And it was Budweiser? And this happens "often"? I call bullshit.
Lol...no, not one type of drink...just one type of beer. I've been living in the US for the last 6 years and people here don't seem to stock an assortment of beers in their fridge...usually, it is just two. "Often" may have been too much but it really is not unusual for them to have the shitty beer like Bud or Miller and then the crappier version of that same beer in "light" form.
Okay if there is something else to drink then, yeah, I would avoid Budweiser too. Anyway, it's not a big deal in Brazil because the alternative is Brahma which is not that great. The Bud monopoly in FIFA zones really sucked when I was at Germany'06 though.
I agree. My sister was working for DHL communication offices back then and they were on of the sponsors for the WC. During one of the matches in Hamburg, we went to DHL's corporate tent. They were serving us some of the good stuff but we had to use Budweiser cups....LOL.
InBev, "Budweiser", also produces Brahma and Skol (both Brasilian), along with Stella, Bass, Beck's, and many others. I am sure there will be a selection. As for advertising you will see Budweiser as the sponsor. If you think a small brewery could sponsor an event like the WC you are out of your minds. It simply can't happen. Dogfish Head or Sam Adams, could and would never sponsor a WC in the Northeast of America. As for Brasilian culture, what kind of Brasilian culture would you see during say a England/Mexico game? Culture is for your off days, not at the stadium.
Yeah we get that. But just because Bud is a sponsor, doesn't mean it has to be to only beer available. But I'm not too worried about it. A football match is not the place for that IPA shit. Stella or something like that would be perfect, while Bud has alcohol so its decent enough I guess.
Would rather have caipirinha in the stadiums. And samba drums. You are in Brazil after all. I hate it that a country has to "walmartize" their local soccer culture and make the World Cup a "shopping mall" experience. That's why I hope Argentina never hosts it. They will have to run over my corpse to bulldoze La Bombonera and make it in to an all-seater air-conditioned stadium so that suited honchos could enjoy their corporate luxury in club suites.
I am, That's why I know IPAs are just a fad. There are like 200 calaroies in a 33cl bottle and they have a very hoppy flavor. Soon hipsters will realize that and stop drinking that shit and it won't be cool anymore. Its not something to drink all day while watching the footie, unless you want to gain 100 pounds during the World Cup. If you're having a Gary Player you just want something that goes down smooth.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Germany just hosted a world cup and they didn't lose any fan atmosphere. All seater stadiums might be built but the seats can fold down so you'd still have the terraces.
