http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/05/25/sounders-alonso-suspended-two-games-rough-tackle Alonso's two footed challenge gets him a two game suspension. I can't fully figure this one out. He deserved a red, meaning he should be suspended for the next game, but why two games? Also Jimenez from LAG got an extra game for his two footed challenge. I may have to watch the replays again but neither looked worse than any other two footed challenge, including Espy's who didn't get an extra game. I could only think maybe Alonso's was because the ref missed it and didn't suspend him the rest of that game too? If so thats the refs fault, Seattle lost anyway, no real need for the extra game IMO.
Pretty sure the committee either just spins a wheel or throws a dart at a board full of discipline. There really hasn't been much consistency with the random suspensions.
I can understand the 2 game suspension for the Alonso one as that had broken leg written all over it. I really hope the ref in that match got some form of suspension, too. That tackle was 10 yards or less away from him and he wasn't screened by anything.
I assume the committee contacts the players involved, the game officials, and looks at the video record. We only know what some of the video record looks like (there may be other angles recorded that are not made public). We don't know what comes out in the interviews/statements gathered. So, it is difficult for us to know why some penalties seem too harsh in comparison to others because we don't know what they know.
At the same time there's really no consistency in the suspensions. I'm just waiting for one of the marquee players like Beckham or Donovan to be the giver or receiver of one of those challenges and see what happens with the discipline. I have a feeling it won't be anything remotely fair to what has already happened this year.
LA has scored 2 goals so far in their game @ Houston the score is tied at 1 way to go douche bag Magee.
Watching Toronto vs Philly... Toronto applying the pressure. Our finishing problems don't seem to bad now.
TFC wins their first match, 3 points. I think that makes Philly now the worse team in MLS. Can Nowak's hot seat now red-hot?
in true mlssoccer.com failure style http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2011-07-20-dc-united-vs-new-england-revolution/recap they post a review of a DC v NER game that happened on July 20, 2011 on the main page... wow
I know I am biased, but that third goal shouldn't count, it was out on the posts. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-05-26-col-v-mtl/recap
If the rule that a ball isn't out of play unless all of it is out, or a goal unless the entire ball crosses the line, holds everywhere, then the top of the crossbar is still in play. If that's what you meant?
look at the 22 second mark pretty sure that jersey in the bottom right corner belongs to a different team quality shit from the cRapids, as always how many times does Balboa say "look at this"? what the hell else am I going to look at you ********ing idiot? that pk was weak in my opinion. Dumb to lean into the player, but Wells goes down like a 20 dollar hooker so, um, at the 8:51 mark in those colorado highlights. What is the ref doing? Yeah, blowing his whistle (or at least about to) and signaling for a corner..?
The ball looks like its on top of the post then over then drops in front of goal. Does it really matter? Are we really going to rule in favor of the cRapids?
a pretty good weekend so far for RSL Seattle drew LA lost (I don't care where they are on the standings) now we just need SJ and KC to draw. While KC winning would be alright, a draw would be just as good as KC has like 3 games in hand right now
The in-stadium replay included a shot straight down the goal line. the ball bounced along the crossbar but never went completely over it, so it was nver completely over the line and out of play. That said, the CR did incorrectly whistle and signal for a corner, so the goal shouldn't have counted.
This. A million times. Kansas won, that's better than SJ losing. We are now 1st in the West. Even if Seattle wins their game in hand we'll still be ahead. (Those things really are fool's gold)
wouldn't Montreal has grounds for a dispute in this game, then? They could send that footage to the league and... well I'm not sure. Would they replay the match?
That's the $64,000 question right now. This being MLS I fully expect them to look the other way and let the result stand, but if the audio is correctly synced with the video on the MLSsoccer.com highlight I have to say the goal shouldn't have counted and Montreal has grounds for a replay.
