Move Kroos to the left wing and put Olic on to play in the attacking mid position. Quite a few times Gomez dropped back (especially as the game progressed). When he did this Olic could have easily moved up top.

I like the idea of resetting all subs after 90. I am not a fan of golden goal because it's still down to one man and one mistake.... Which both teams will avoid doing with their lives...

NO ONE wants to lose for their country in sudden death, so both teams will play to tie..

I think forward thinking is needed and penalties eventually gone..

But I think we all agree at least for a start to redo the subs after extra time..

    For starters

they won't play to tie when they know that they have to score to win

Absolutely. But even so, would be good to get rid of the PK shootout and reward more open play.

Nothing but since it basically destroys a player which made that mistake to lead to that goal, both teams would be scared shitkess to move past their half..

    We have seen it before..

Now maybe if we got rid of pk shoot outs all together and reset all subs and put in golden goal, then we got something.. It would FORCE teams to attack and end the game, knowing there is no other way out..

But... What if it lasts forever? 4 hour games..

This is the ultimate truth ... I'm starting not to rate Heynckes so much ... He obviously doesn't train set pieces or alternative gameplans in case of injuries or the game not heading your way, by the look on the CL final (The lack of depth in the squad didn't help either, I know) ...

the golden goal would be implemented as the way to end the game because the shootout would be removed. as for the possibility of having really long games....that's why you would only implement this change towards the end of a tournament or competition (i.e for the semifinals and finals). the round of 16 and the quarterfinals would be played as they are currently (with the shootouts to decide the winner)

That is what I was trying to say, (i.e. extend as necessary).

Don't think it would go to four hours if both teams hit the final "15(+)" and knew they'd have to score to go home and that the first goal takes it, especially when the starters can be subbed back in after a rest.

    Worth a shot.

Hendrik or Forever Red, I agree with Eissman, I really think it's time to close and delete this Thread ... All that could be said about the game was already said ...

It just hurts too much to keep talking about it and even seeing this on the Forum. It's time to prepare for the EURO, and after that, really hope that Heynckes train this team better for next season, so that we can regain the domain in the BL and hope for a good CL run again (but I hope we don't make it to the final at all if the team is going to choke, I just can't take another disappointment) ...

I'm over the loss, now that the shock is wearing off, more level headed analysis can be done.

    ^^ ??

We overcame a 'group of death' and made the final, unlike 30(?) other teams, to include Barca/Madrid and The Manchester teams. I'd say as far as the CL goes, despite the Final, we represented Germany and the BL quite well....

Uli Hoeness declared that we MUST play the Finale at home, we we did. The outcome was anyone's to be had but we attained making that final.

By no means am I OK with the outcome, but we still contended for all 3 titles, other teams can say what they want but THAT is a constant.

No the outcome wasn't anyone's. If you make the final at home, the outcome should only go into one player. Munich. We flopped miserably in the final even though we played well.

There have now been two home finals in the European Cup/Champions League. The home team has lost both, on penalties, so it's hardly a certainty.
