It seems like it was a needs based trade. Wondo was probably supplementary at the time the Dynamo needed a target, and the Quakes needed a goal scorer. Clearly, the Quakes came out on top in that trade. I find it hard to believe Kinnear couldn't see the quality of player Wondo is, but maybe a desire to come home and the fact that he wasn't seeing that many minutes made the Dynamo feel they could/should trade him?
Also, don't forget that Wondo didn't exactly set the league on fire in his limited minutes with the Quakes in 2009 and started the 2010 season fourth or so on the forwards depth chart. It wasn't until all the forwards ahead of him got injured early on that season that he was given a chance to sneak in and begin his MLS Golden Boot run. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

With his hot form right now and the poor play of Buddle, it seems like Wondo has a decent chance to make the USMNT for the upcoming friendlies and WCQ matches. According to information released today, the roster will be announced in two parts - Europe and other International players will be announced on May 15, and MLS players will be announced on May 20. That would sound like the MLS guys will be called into camp the week of May 21, so if Wondo does make the roster he could miss both the LA and KC games that week. (That also means that Donovan would likely miss the LA-SJ match as well). For Wondo's sake I hope he gets called in and gets chances to play with the US team, but for the Quakes' sake, it's going to be tough playing at LA and at KC (in the same week) without him. If he gets called, hopefully he does well and comes back with his confidence even higher.
Much as I'd appreciate his presence at forward for the nats, I'm going club over them on this issue. EQ's will need him for the KC and Scum matches.
Not to mention, if he does get the call up, he'll likely be on the bench as only a possibility, with other "more internationally seasoned" forwards in front of him on the depth chart. I'd love to see him go, but only if he were to actually get some minutes, and Klinsmann would use him in a two-forward pairing instead of a lone striker, which isn't Wondo's game.

no way. wondo doesn't have much time to impress for the nats. he needs every single opportunity he can get
Look, if we sucked I'd be right there with you, but we don't. We need Wondo for these games. Besides, I don't think he's in Klinsmann's plans and I think Wondo knows it.
I'm as big a quakes fan as anyone. But, I love watching the national team above all. Klinsmann knows strikers, and if he is willing to give Wondolowski a chance to help the team during qualifying, i'm sure he will take it. When a striker is doing as well in the MLS as Wondo is, he forces himself into the national team picture. Wondo is getting no younger. It's high time for him to play for the nats, IMO

Hard to say. I mean, considering how limited playing time is with the Nats, and the elevated level of competition, strikers aren't expected to score that often. If not scoring for the Nats over the course of three games would lose you your place in the team, then Jozy, Buddle, Findley, et al would have played their last game for the Nats long ago. Heck, considering the kind of ineffective strikers who kept getting called in time after time, it would be a little unfair for Wondo to be judged by his lack of goals scoring in only a few appearances while being played as a CF. Besides, he's in camp, training every day, and playing in scrimmages. The coaching staff are seeing a lot more of him and how he plays with the team than just what we get to see in televised matches.
So if I understand correctly, jergen will be cutting down the roster from 27 to 23 this morning. Will it be one from each position? I think the only way Wondo makes the cut is if Boyd or Agudelo gets the cut instead. I don't see the other forwards spots in jeopardy.
Wow awesome! Very timely as I just posted my post above, haha! Looks like Agudelo didn't make the cut, wow.. Well he'll have more opportunities down the road, being young. I'm so happy for Wondo!
