As good as Parkhurst may be, he's not going to pass Cherundolo or Chandler at right back. He probably won't pass Jonathan Spector or Eric Lichaj either.
Exactly... He is not that good as centre back though, when he occasionally get to play that position (like he did last week against Brøndby ) ... But Parkhurst scored his first Danish Superliga goal this weekend : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPgj-wMd5X8"]2011-12 Round 22 Michael Parkhurst scoring - YouTube[/ame] .
Except that Cherundolo is fading, we've been using Chandler as a left back, Spector no longer plays right back in club football, and Eric Lichaj has played something like two games for Villa this season (for a myriad of reasons.) I expect Klinsmann to at least call up Parkhurst to take a look at him. If he decides Parkhurst isn't good enough.........than so be it.
Honestly, how consistently good and how many first team games has Lichaj actually played for Aston Villa ?... and how old is Cherundolo ?... in the near future Parkhurst is going to be your best option for the right back position in my opinion, simply because he has the right age and has been consistently good for a Champions League quality side (= the best team in the Danish League). .
Chandler will be the right back in 2014, barring injury Johnson, Castillo, and maybe even Shae ( if he's smart and initiates the change himself) will play LB Parkhurst's best angle for making the squad as a backup is that he can play multiple positions in the back.
the same castillo who played horrifically the first few games JK was in charge and hasn't been heard from since? God help us if he's anywhere near the roster in 2014.
The same Castillo who has been playing very well for his club the last few months? God knows we can't be picky with the LB spot. He'll get another shot and deservedly so.
He's probably #2 behind Johnson. (Assuming Chandler is busy elsewhere) So yeah, he's a factor going forward, for better or worse.
Parkhurst went the full 90 minutes at right back for Nordsjaelland last week and set up a goal in a 2-0 away win against Lyngby. His assist comes at 0:44 in the video:
the two questions about Parkhurt.... does he have the speed to play RB internationally? or does he have the strength to play CB internationally?
1) Well, if FCN win the Danish Championship, you will be able to judge for yourselves, when he is playing in the Champions League group stage... but to be a good attacking right back in the Danish Superliga for a top team in the league, you do need the kind of speed that would also make you good enough for the Danish national team. 2) No... there is good reason why he can not become a regular starter for FCN as CB, and that they will rather use younger talents like Jores Okore and Ivan Runje in that position. .
Parkhurst made the "Team of the Week" in Denmark for the second week in a row: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...cussion-thread-r.864686/page-21#post-25690943
And Parkhurst likely moves up a notch on the right back depth chart thanks to Chandler's latest exclusion/waffling.
Parkhurst was really good today at right back as Nordsjaelland won the Danish title and qualified for the Champions League group stages. Impressive.
He was quite good. Was switching alot and looked comfortable on both sides. He was also less than a foot away from a 35 yard goal on the right side.
Cherundolo is headed towards retirement so his replacement has to be on tap. Chandler is gone. Jonathan Spector is now only doing good work as a CB. he gets beat bad at LB. That leaves Eric Lichaj.....
