Here are two charts that I jacked from the Hammarby fansite BaraBajen. They show pretty well how much better this start is compared to the other two years in the second division.

The first one shows the number of points accumulated after each round. Berhalter has already won the same amount in five rounds that the club had in round nine in 2011 and round eleven in 2010.

And the second one simply shows league placement after each round. The thing that stood out to me was that Hammarby has only been in the promotion playoff spot once in the previous two seasons and never in the top two automatic promotion spots.

It would be interesting to see these graphs in comparison to the teams that actually got promoted in the last two years to see if Hammarby are on the same track. I know it's only 5 games, but it's still fun to think about.

Green line is Hammarby this year. Grey lines are the four teams promoted in 2010 and 2011.

So it seems as if 56 is the number to reach for promotion. Current pace has them reaching that threshold in the 22nd game.

One goal was enough for the three points today for Hammarby. They're in 2nd place on GD.

Hammarby played well for about the last 25 minutes of the first half but that proved to be enough today as they scored the only goal of the game during that period. Värnamo did come close to equalizing with a shot off the crossbar towards the end.

Baggio played the full game and had some good chances but no goal unfortunaly. I remember that the reports in preseason and after the first few games were a bit negative on him but I think that he has started to really find his place now in the midfield pairing with Andreas Dahl. Schuler came on again towards the end of the game and had one really good chance where he was one on one with the keeper but the angle wasn't that great and his shot went straight at the keeper.

The two top teams distanced themselves a bit from the rest with the results in this round. I think Berhalters transformation of the Hammarby defence has been especially impressive with only three goals allowed in six games, and this with their probably best central defender injured.

    Code:
    Öster 6 5 1 0 14- 6 16
    Hammarby 6 5 1 0 10- 3 16
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Brommapojkarna 6 4 0 2 8- 7 12
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Jönköpings Södra 6 3 2 1 15-10 11
    Ängelholms FF 6 3 2 1 10- 7 11
    Assyriska 6 3 1 2 11- 8 10
    Halmstad 6 3 1 2 9- 6 10

    Landskrona BoIS 6 2 1 3 9-10 7
    IK Brage 6 2 1 3 8-11 7
    Falkenberg 6 1 2 3 5- 7 5

Not a very good game from Hammarby but three points is what is important. Gregg is still boss :)

At this stage of the season the key takeaway from the league table is that they have one of the better attacks and by far the best defense in the division; and teams with the meanest defense are always there or thereabouts in the championship/promotion-winning stakes in any league.

First loss for Berhalter today as Hammarby were beaten 0-2 at home against Assyriska. After watching the game I have to say that it was a fair result. Assyriska were the better team in the first half where they scored their two goals, one of them of course by a Hammarby trialists that Berhalter turned down this winter. Hammarby did get back into it a little bit in the second half but during their best period of the game the fans started fighting in the stands so they had to pause play for 15 minutes and after that Hammarby never really looked close to making a comeback.

Baggio played the first half but was subbed off at half time, Berhalter explained that he wanted to bring in a player who could pressure the opponent better. That was one of two substitutions at half time, the other one was bringing in Schuler to play right wing. He did okey, his movement definitely helped Hammarbys attack but he wasn't as successful in the situations where he had to get past his defender. But I still think that in general they should start him in games. Especially if, like today, the starting right winger is injured and they're otherwise forced to use their poor second choice in that position.

I believe Schuler's specialty is more of a Messi type game where the movement starts midfield and moves centrally and finishing off with a short touch to a teammate. However, he really ought to improve his wing play. After all, if everybody knows you can't go wide, they will stop you by letting you go there.

    Lykke til, Greg!!!

Very poor game from Hammarby :/ But I'm to upset about the infamous Stockholm police to think about the game right now. Using pepper spray and batons on innocent men, women and children. It was horrifying to see. An absolute disgrace.

Oh well these last three games have not been good from Hammarby. Hope for improvement against Landskrona next.

Second straight loss for Hammarby today, this time 1-4 against Landskrona BoIS. I can't give a very detailed report from the game since I was switching back and forth between several games on TV, but from what I saw the Hammarby defence looked extremely poor. Husidic played the full game while Schuler (injured?) didn't play at all.

Even with these two losses the club still remain in second place in the table, so no need to panic from that perspective. Öster seem to be cruising away at the top though which might end up leaving the remaining teams with only one direct promotion spot to fight over.

    Code:
    Öster 8 7 1 0 19- 7 22
    Hammarby 8 5 1 2 11- 9 16
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Brommapojkarna 8 5 0 3 12-13 15
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Halmstad 8 4 2 2 13- 6 14
    Assyriska 8 4 2 2 13- 8 13
    Landskrona BoIS 8 4 1 3 15-12 13
    Jönköpings Södra 8 3 3 2 20-16 12
    Ängelholms FF 8 3 3 2 11-10 12
    Varbergs BoIS 8 3 3 2 10- 9 12
    Ljungskile SK 8 2 4 2 10-11 10
    Falkenberg 8 2 2 4 9-10 8
    IK Brage 8 2 2 4 9-13 8

    Degerfors IF 8 2 1 5 11-12 7

Now I'm starting to get worried. Last two games we have lost both and 1-6 in GD, that is not good enough. Overall yes second place is good, but I wonder if Hammarby are "sönderlästa" now as we say here. Don't know how to translate that :) Like the opponents have read us like a book and know exactly how to beat us now. Broken our code.

So Mr Berhalter is there a plan B?

It sounds like "figured out" is the equivalent American phrase.
