Can't argue against the 3 game suspension. A soccer ball, with the right velocity and trajectory can do some serious damage to the nether regions. Classless move from Shea. Kudos to the AR for taking it like a boss.

As for Beckham, could you really suspend this face?

what irritates me about their setup is that they won't allow you to use dark blue as a main color at all. I understand because they already have a dark blue/blueish kit. But still.

I made a purple, yellow, and blue one that I really liked.
    I'll try to upload it

(UP will hate it - features a collar)

the argument of "he got the ball" is hilarious
someone point to me where in the rule book it says "but if the player gets the ball, no foul will be called, regardless of recklessness or possible danger"

this deserved a suspension, no doubt
    but 3 games?
whoa Nelly, that's a bit harsh
a fine and a one game suspension would have more than sufficed.

Does the DisCo just have a bag of numbers that they use to figure out the length of suspensions? While I agree one what they are going after most of the time, the lengths seem incredibly arbitrary.

It wouldn't let me make the shorts dark blue as the primary color, so just switch the yellow with the blue on everything on the shorts.[IMG]

[IMG]Purple and black look sick together
I might want to switch the main color on the shorts to black and the secondary color purple, but still a cool kit

That may be the most homer-esq comment I've ever heard... how about the attempted chop to the guy's head??? He wound up for it to ensure maximum hand velocity! egad. That should be 3 games and Shea's should only be 1.

Shea got an extra 2 games for being on the team that failed to make the London Olympics.

This is big news guys. Allen is considered one of the best US youth players out there and if his future with RSL is in doubt its a serious, serious blow. Where is Todd, does he have more info for us?

School is over for the kids and the season is U-18 season is almost over, I don't think there is much to worry about in that regard. RSL will sign him after the U-18 season is over or some European club will snatch him up.

Umm... yeah... so that's the part where I said its bad. He is one of the best in the US youth lists and RSL has devoted a lot of time and energy to him. If he slips away, that really, really sucks. Especially after the Cascio and Deleon debacles last year.

In other RSL news, RSL tied the BYU men's soccer team (the PDL side?) 1-1 and BYUs other pointy ball team beat Arkansas State 49-42 to win the national championship. Yeah!

It won't be a Cascio/DeLeon situation because I don't believe either of them were ready to compete for first team time when they left for college, they both matured a lot in their game while in college and were solid prospects by the time they entered the draft. Plus Garth said during the 700am interview that the Cascio/DeLeon situation will NEVER happen again to players coming out of the academy heading to college. Whatever the issue was, it has been fixed.

I think the Allen thing was last year MLS offered him a GA contract that was way low-ball and he and his family balked. So he was looking for a place to develop without fully committing to a contract and chose the RSL academy for some reason. I personally think its because of the success of the senior club, the success of Luis Gil and the fact that Martin Vasquez is the academy director. Vasquez carries a lot of clout, he has a long history of excellence and has the ear of Jurgen Klinsmann, thus has many contacts in the futbol world. I believe there is some spoken agreement between RSL FO and the Allen fam, Jordan goes to the academy, puts in the work and once he is considered HGP under MLS rules, RSL signs him to a senior contract and he is Luis Gil 2.0. If we sign him HGP he doesn't count against the cap. I guess we'll find out soon, I have seen Allen play in a reserve game and I was extremely impressed, he is clearly very advanced, has excellent quality on the ball. Once he gains some muscle, like Luis has been doing, he'll be all the more dangerous.

Personally, I am glad we are worried about stuff like this, the academy is becoming extremely successful and it will become a pipeline for young talent. It is the only way we will be able to compete against the bigger market clubs once MLS starts to loosen the financial restraints that are meant to keep parity among the teams and keep the league out of debt. We aren't to that inflection point yet, but once MLS becomes integrated in the world football structure, i.e. we are producing consistent quality and viewed as sensible destination for not just retiring superstars but quality players, the academy will be our bread and butter.

Garth said during the 700 interview that he gets calls constantly from kids/parents internationally that want to join the academy, but they can't because the way MLS controls discovery rights associated with international players. Even international academy players are controlled apparently.

saying our academy is "very successful" is VERY misleading
name one starter that played in our academy
name on player on the squad who gets minutes that played on the academy

You want to look at a successful academy, look at Dallas.
Our academy looks like it could develop future talent, but saying it's "very successful" is simply not true.

I was more speaking from the ability to compete at the USSDA U16 and U18 level after only a short period of existence. Yeah, the Dallas academy appears to be pretty developed/advanced, but given the fact they have had a ten year head start, I would hope they have some framework there. But that begs the question, name one regular academy product that starts out of the FC Dallas academy?
