Good for Jimmy B. He was treated horribly by previous management, hope he serves us well in his new post.

It could be that they realized that they had the same problems with the coaching staff as they did with the players: it's not the players that were bad, it was just that they weren't utilized where they could best perform. Get the best striker in the organization to help coach strikers, get the best defender in the organization not named Frings to help coach defenders and get de Klerk away from referees.

This frees up the U17 coaching spot for someone who is better versed in the system than Brennan. All eyes should now turn to Dichio.....

I guess it couldn't hurt to change something within the club considering the poor results we suffered. Whether something positives come from this well I guess we will have to see but great to see someone like Brennan more involved within the club.

Isn't Dichio coaching the U19 squad?

U18. My point is that he could be the next to be promoted/fired/reassigned.

Is BDK really the problem? He's hot-tempered during games that's for sure, but from the (extremely limited) footage of training I've seen, he seems to be doing a hell of a lot more than Winter.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying BdK is or isn't a good assistant, nor am I suggesting what this might mean (at least in this post)

this seems like pretty lame reasoning to me. What you are suggesting is that the guy running the training isn't having an impact on the team's performance, but the guy who's not running the training sessions is. What if BdK was doing a bad job training them? Again, I'm not saying that he was doing a bad job, but just because he's doing MORE on field work, doesn't mean he's doing BETTER on field work.

Now that being said, from what I understand, the position BdK's been moved into is more similar to the role he played with Ajax. It seems to me that this is more about shuffling the roles to better use the personnel currently employed by the team. A bit like shuffling the lines in hockey. Perhaps BdK decided that he wanted a less hands on and close up job, and go back to the role that he was used to, and Mariner wanted to get back down to pitch level again. Again, not saying that that's the way it is, but it's a possibility that should be thought about before right away assuming that everyone's lying

My read/guess......when the club's own security head has to stop you from attacking the other team's coach after a 2-nil home WIN and "escort" you down the tunnel......you have probably lost, both, the plot and the right to be on the sidelines.

I thought the players seemed more comfortable with BDK than with AW, though again that might be just me, and all I've seen of training ground footage is from the spring of 2011. So not much to go by, and, I agree, not enough to make a decent argument, but there's nothing else to really determine what training is like at TFC. We're just going to have to hope for the best, really.

I'm more worried that it was Brennan of all people who was promoted. Aside from him being a defender and our defense needing desperate help, what decent arguments could anyone make for Brennan being hired before anyone else?

the whole "shuffle" is strange and it is really hard to tell how is being promoted...who is being demoted. Is it a promotion to be told to sit in the chair beside a guy who's time there could, potentially, be measured on an 8 day timer? Is BDK really being re-assigned to make better use of the skills he developed in Holland or is everyone (MLSE/MLS/fans) just tired of his sideline antics (sitting at midfield on the west side I can tell you that in my nearly 50 years of watching this sport I have never seen a sideline guy act as childish/unsporting as him...his behaviour is, at times, downright abusive....and I had the same view of John Carver so saying this guy is the worst is saying a lot).

While the titles are all mixed up at TFC (is that by design?) I have always viewed AW as the bench boss and Mariner as the equivalent of the traditional North American GM.....is it a promotion for a guy in that position to be strapping on the boots and being more active on the training field?

Or is this all just a bit of, reversible, prepartion in case we get to May 24th and find ourselves 0-9 in the league and out of the cup and announcing that Mariner has assumed head coaching responsibilities and will be assisted by Jimmy Brennan and we would like to thank Aron and Bob for their hard work and contributions to the club?

It seems to me that Brennan's being given different jobs for the sake of having TFC's first signing and captain around at the club. I wonder if there was pressure on Winter from the FO for him to promote Brennan. Moving Brennan up stinks of PR.
That being said, I'm at the point where I'm more then willing to see how this works out

Either PR or a move to make it look like the organization is doing something about the coaching situation. Kinda like the "hey we just signed Ali Gerba" distraction.

Duane Rollins suggests it could be a move meant to get an MLS guy higher up in the coaching system, but if that were the case they could have just fired Winter and put Nicol/Mariner in his place.

Brennan is no more an MLS guy than Theirry Henry is. MLS guys are guys that come through NCAA or some other American system and at least start their careers in the MLS, then either move abroad, or become an MLS veteran. That or they are guys that have been around NA soccer a long time. Finishing your career in MLS doesn't make you any more MLS knowledgeable than anyone else. It seems to me that instead of going out and getting experienced MLS people (with the exception of Mariner), They go and get guys that have some MLS experience and label them as the MLS guys. Take Dunfield for an example (please don't rage) The guy was playing USL, then played half a season with Vancouver before they decided that he wasn't good enough and gave him to us. Now all of the sudden he's labeled as one of those solid MLS guys that everyone needs.
Now I'm not saying that we don't need MLS guys, but it annoys me that the MLS experienced guys that they try to bring in aren't really MLS experienced guys.

It may be that they wanted to bring in an MLS guy, but I imagine it went something like:
Winter (or whoever): I need someone who understands MLS to assist me
Tommy boy: alright, well I'm not going to hire anyone new, but we've got this guy named Jim Brennan currently with the U-17s, he deserves a promotion. He's really knowledgeable about the MLS and everything. Oh, and you have no choice

Brennan is more of an MLS guy than he is a Dutch guy though. Anyway, my point was that it if was MLSE's plan to bring in an MLS guy, then they would have brought somebody like Nicol.

Does anybody have any analysis of Brennan's performance with the U17s?
