So...another question to stir up some heated discussion.... I'd nominate five players: Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie, Rooney, and after his goals last night, Papiss Cisse. Some stats to ponder...all for the last THREE months, i.e. since February 1st... GOALS PER GAME: 1) Messi 1.38 2) Ronaldo 1.23 3) Rooney 1.07 4) Papiss Cisse 1.00 5) Van Persie .63 PERCENTAGE OF TEAM'S GOALS: 1) Papiss Cisse 62% 2) Messi 49% 3) Rooney 48% 4) Ronaldo 44% 5) Van Persie 32% Other relevant info: Van Persie's form is clearly the poorest right now. After that, who knows....Messi ranks the highest using the two metrics, as well as having scored the most overall goals during the time period in question (29 goals), but didn't score in his club's three most crucial matches (the CL semis and Classico vs. RM), whereas Ronaldo scored three times in his club's three most crucial matches. Papiss Cisse's goals are most crucial to his club's success, and he also has the weakest supporting cast, but he's scored some pretty spectacular goals. Let the debate begin....
Lionel Messi: best football player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo: world class striker & winger in one Mario Gomez: best goal poacher in the world Who's the best you ask? Depends on the rest of the team I figure. At Bayern they need a poacher who clinically finishes the devlieries of 2 wingers and 1 playmaker. At Madrid they need Ronaldo's flexibility and finishing both at the same time and well Barcelona build their entire system around this genius little Argentine.
Rodrigo Lima of SC Braga led the line well as has 20 goals in a tight liga campaign last 2 years he has been instrumental in the CL
Mfw13, does the name "Robert Lewandowski" mean anything to you?? Or are you another of those sawker newbies from God's Little Corner of the US of A who are led by the noses by PC police?? Papiss Cisse give me a freakin break, he's not worthy of carrying Lewandowski's cleats, or Gomez' or Huntelaar's for that matter. But there is no doubt in the spring Lewandowski tops them all.
The debate is only interesting if you exclude Messi and Ronaldo. But yeah, either way it's not Cisse. Too early to jump on that bandwagon, just like it was too early to get too excited over that other Senegalese striker for Newcastle whose name I already forgot. Lets see what he does in a full season in England.
very classy user name you have....with a user name like that "jebany huj" you ooze credibility, buddy
Maybe he should have taken more penalties, shouldn't he? And then you should also look to Champions League, DFB Pokal and National Team. Good try, though. Try it again
Gomez is a quality striker..no question...but he was invisible in both matches against BVB this season I actually rate Lewandowski higher
I gave you that and you can rate whoever you want The fact remains, that BVB is the only quality opponent Bayern played against that Gomez missed to score. Also his chances/goals are way worse than Gomez' but you as I said before, you can of course rate who you want but the point is rather fool. It's like saying I won't rate Lewa because BVB lost to Marseille and Panatinaikos which isn't true either.
I have seen my fair share of BL this season and CL football....Gomez is a poacher..an outstanding poacher..but his striker role is very one dimensional (which works in BM system)..I am not judging Gomez as a striker because he did not score against BVB..I am judging Gomez on the fact that he is one dimensional...one example...when BVB limited his space and made him play with his back to the goal...he was useless....go back to those two games,..and look at how many times Lewa was able to control a "hospital" ball sent over the top to him..control the ball ...hold multiple defenders off, and create an attack....Lewa is a better passer and can play an AM position if need arises...Gomez who I like...can't...
As I said, you can rate whoever you want but to judge Gomez out of those both matches doesn't sound, fact. All Bayern were terriful in those matches. It's also not true that Gomez is useless with the back to the goal, he's also a good passer but not a great one, indeed. The point is, if he would have had the chances Lewa did, he would have scored maybe the double amount of goals. I have no problem if you say you're rating Lewa higher than Gomez because of his versatility. But this versatility didn't help BVB in the CL when they desperately needed a poacher. Gomez is also great in team defense and at defending corners, Lewa not so.. Think about
Messi is also obviously a mid-table La Liga player because in the 2 matches vs Chelsea he stunk entirely. Flawless logic at its finest.
Re-read my previous posts...when did I ever consider Gomez to be an average striker? I merely pointed out that Gomez's two (now three) games evidence that he is not as versatile of a player as Lewandowski is... I consider Gomez to be a high quality player...no question...but for me..he is not as good as Lewandowski simple
I did read your posts. Your analogy is horribly flawed. Like I said, I pick Messi vs an opponent where he blew in each game and then vs Madrid inbetween them. Base it off these 3 games and he's a good player at best. Lewandowski with Dortmund plays on the counter vs Bayern while Gomez is playing with a super defensive team vs Dortmund. One instance where Bayern countered since Dortmund had a few players up ahead, and he hit the crossbar. That type of instance happens every time Dortmund get the ball since only 4-5 Bayern players are back in the defense since one team plays possession and the other counter attack.
Pure 9s best ones are 1 Ibra, 2 Gomez, 3 Falcao, 4 Cavani, 5 Higuain, 6 Benzema, 7 Pato, 8 RVP, 9 balloteli, 10 chicharito []__[]
