Well they would think that is an attack on religious freedom.

I do agree with you, they should have to file as non-for-profit entities, and pay tax when they make profits. But that is not going to happen anytime soon, not even in Europe.

I hate it when churches and other religious organizations get political. I really do. but I'm not sure that revoking their tax exempt status is the way to go. I like ceezmad's idea of requiring them to file taxes as non-profits. chances are, they will never make a profit anyway. most churches are barely squeaking by. of course, the few opulent mega churches make the headlines and make people think that's the general rule.

Priests should be required to register as agents of a foreign power.

100% agreed. It's time we stop subsidizing this bullshit. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of churches in New York that would shutter the minute they had to start being accountable.

(I fully understand that it won't happen until after the revolution though.) :)

An organization being "nonprofit" doesn't mean that the entity loses money. The NFL, the Green Bay Packers, the PGA Tour- they are all nonprofits. Many hospitals and most colleges are nonprofits. A wide variety of social clubs are nonprofits, such as college fraternities and sororities.

Oddly enough, my mother told me today that one of our relatives -an uncle who's an evangelist- is going to give the keynote speech at Liberty University. Not sure if he's taking Mitt Romney's place, or there will be two different speakers. In fact I googled it and I found him. It's my uncle alright, although I only met him a couple of times in my life. (We have lots of uncles and aunts.)

Two different events. Your uncle is at the baccalaureate ceremony on Friday and Mittens is at the convocation on Saturday.

Wait: Liberty is relagating the Christian to the Baccalaureate, but the non-Christian gets the convocation?

Yet another salvo in the war against Christianity, dammit.

More worried about Mitt being human than I am about him being Christian.

Maybe my uncle should run for president. I know he'll fight for the Christians. He'd have to fix his birth certificate, though.

The logic of that lady is funny as shit.

    By her logic.

"Overall, the national life expectancy was nearly 75 for white men, 68 for black men"

Maybe black men should not be allowed to be black so they can live longer

That was awesome, thanks for posting it. My favorite part was the reaction of the women sitting behind when the speaker said Hillary Clinton was gay. (The video of that lady speaking later was also posted, where she talks about being the mother of a gay son.)

That was awesome (only because it was incredibly stupid, and was attempted poetry)

For my uncle? No she wouldn't vote for him.

You must be stereotyping evangelists, but it's not like you think. In fact my uncle has been criticized by the most extreme evangelicals for his acceptance of gays, and for saying that homosexuality is a genetic trait.

A quick google search and I found this from the crazies:

    http://www.ministers-best-friend.com/Luis-Palau-AGAINST-Scripture-and-FOR-Homosexuality.html

I hardly know the guy, as he left Argentina before I was born, but I was touched when it is mentioned by the hatemongers that he has "a nephew who died of aids" as one of the reasons he does not condemn homosexuals. He is obviously talking about my brother Robert John, and it tells me that he has my brother in his heart. I'm guessing he must have talked about the issue with my mother. I'll have to ask her about that.

My mother worships him as the hero of the family. He is her oldest brother, and when their father died young she says he was like a father to his seven brothers and sisters.

For the record, that woman is schizophrenic and lives in a supervised group home for people with mental illness. Her brother is her guardian. I'm originally from Lincoln, and a friend of a friend goes to City Council meetings regularly--she shows up frequently, and it's pretty well-known that she's not well.

That was one of the funniest unintentional comedies I have seen in a while. I LOLed and everyone knows that I am not working.

EDIT - OK I just read what Bigredfutbol just wrote. That's sad really.

This came out on twitter soon after someone posted it - then pretty quickly someone added that they were schizophrenic and this lady did not represent the typical schizophrenic attitude toward gays - :)

Which I had to giggle at because I can't help myself :) There's a bit of that sprinkled in my family so I know why to laugh, it wasn't a cruel laugh at all :)
