Path To 2012/13 CCL Starts Now Toronto will look to repeat as Canadian champions a fourth time for Champions League chance NEW YORK - Three-time defending champion Toronto FC will face Major League Soccer expansion Montreal Impact, and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play FC Edmonton in the Amway Canadian Championship. Both series will begin Wednesday, May 2, with Montreal and Edmonton hosting first legs with the second a week later in Toronto and Vancouver. Toronto defeated Edmonton in last year's semifinals and then rallied to beat Vancouver in the second leg of the final - a match that had to be replayed after the initial attempt was abandoned due to lightning and torrential rain. Toronto went on to reach the semifinals of the 2011/12 Champions League before being eliminated by Club Santos Laguna of Mexico. Montreal, which won the title in 2008 under a different structure, is playing as a first-division side for the first time, having elevated its status as MLS' 19th team. The new year also has brought in a name change in the title sponsor the Canadian club championship, from the Nutrilite brand of health supplements to its parent company Amway. http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2012/04/path-201213-ccl-starts-may

Canadian championship starts in less than a week Inaugural tournament in 2008 put club on the map The Impact took the first ever Canadian title back in 2008 as a second division club, and had been the only Canadian side until TFC did it this year (2011-2012) to advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League, and then qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament against Santos Laguna. “There were two games that I feel were defining moments in our club’s recent history,” said Impact director of soccer operations Matt Jordan, who was the team’s starting goalkeeper that year. “The first was when we won the Canadian Championship in Toronto. That game gave us a lot of credibility in MLS circles.” “To be a second division club that qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League group stage and advance to the quarterfinals against Santo Laguna gave our club more international recognition. Hosting the first leg in front of a 55,571 spectators; that is what put us on the map, especially throughout the CONCACAF region. Those events helped us get to where we are today.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/canadian-championship-starts-less-week
Was looking at the NASL standings.. Edmonton has stumbled out of the gate, 3 losses in 4 games, last place.
2012 Amway Canadian Championship PREDICTIONS These things can be very difficult to predict due to lineup changes etc... but I think predicting a Montreal / Vancouver final is reasonable: The Impact have confidence, and enough depth to field 2 competitive MLS teams right now - key for the packed schedules during the ACC; The TFC squad has key injuries and little depth, as well as a fragile ego Edmonton really appears to be outclassed - they have not managed a win in the NASL over 4 matches so far (just 1 tie) Vancouver seems to have the makings of a playoff squad in MLS, with decent attack & defending As far as predicting a champion, it is a flip of the coin between MTL and VAN in my mind... I'd love to see Eddie Sebrango score the winner in extra time of the second leg match to win the championship!
ACC: Winter insists TFC the better team vs. Montreal TORONTO – Toronto FC’s losing streak has to end sometime, right? Head coach Aron Winter is confident that moment will come on Wednesday, when the Reds hit the road to take on the Montreal Impact in the first game of the Amway Canadian Championship (8 pm ET, Rogers Sportsnet in Canada). The Reds are 0-7 so far in the MLS regular season and winless in their last nine games overall, including a draw and a loss against Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League. “When you get the first victory everything is going to change,” Winter said. “We deserve it also. Almost all the games we have played we were almost stronger than each opponent and that’s why it’s a little bit disillusioning and disappointing that, after seven games, you’ve got zero points.” http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/05/01/acc-winter-insists-tfc-better-team-vs-montreal
Yet, Impact got more points than TFC and doesnt lose in their home crowd.. TFC dont suck, their management does. What a cocky coach
Why on earth would he want to motivate Montréal more than they already are? This guy should be sacked if they don't get past the impact...
Is it just me or does TFC's jerseys look a little weird. They remind me of candy canes. . It's TFC Christmas everybody. Games been dragging.
TFC really bunkered last 10 minutes .. they want their draw, the idiots. Well I guess for them it's a great victory.. Wow Emory is horrible.. maybe he'll put it his own net
ACC Recap: Impact, Toronto play to scoreless draw Toronto FC came to Québec for the first leg of their Amway Canadian Championship semifinal and shutout the Montreal Impact, holding them to a cautious 0-0 draw contested in front of 13,405 spectators on Wednesday night at the Olympic Stadium. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/05/02/acc-recap-impact-toronto-play-scoreless-draw
ACC Recap: Whitecaps leave Edmonton with 2-0 victory The Major League Soccer side left Commonwealth Stadium with a 2-0 aggregate advantage over FC Edmonton after the first leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal on Wednesday through goals from Eric Hassli and Atiba Harris. Hassli’s 18th-minute effort was his first goal in 18 matches, as he slid a low effort past goalkeeper David Monsalve. Omar Salgado made the play by beating fullback Paul Hamilton down the left side before cutting the ball back for the big Frenchman to fire home. The Whitecaps doubled their lead in the 41st minute, and once again Salgado was the catalyst. Hassli sent the Texan into a good position in the box, and Salgado beat his marker before hitting a fine chip over Monsalve’s head. The ball bounced off the post, but Harris was there to control before tapping home for the 2-0 goal. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-05-02-edm-v-van/recap

I'm wondering how they will play it. Will they bunker all game like last time? Frings is hurt? I hope we slaughter them, they are an embarrassment and that's what they deserve. And then I will read Winter's ridiculously arrogant comments after the game and have a good chuckle.
I believe that for tonight the chuckle belongs to us my friend. Then tomorrow we'll all look at the MLS table and you can go back to laughing at us.
Exactly what I was afraid of Mtl had there heads in the clouds beating the best team in kc and today playing a desperate club that had not tasted victory yet something had to give Mtl has no one else but themselves to blame for both legs plain and simple SCANDALOUS performance tonight
Man we better beat LA Saturday to get this foul taste out if my mouth and especially with a huge crowd damn how quickly things can snow ball
You called it, my friend. The team is simply not good enough to win on that sort performance- I don't think any club in North America is- and it doesn't help that in attack we don't have players able to create goals out of nothing.
