When this road swing started I felt that we needed to get 4 points if we were going to consider ourselves a strong playoff contender. 4 points is possible, but we have to get a tie in Houston on their big night - no easy task. If these guys want to be considered with the big boys in the league, going into Houston and spoiling their big party with a tie is what tough teams do. That is going to take some strong team defense and clutch offense. It will be interesting to see how they do.

For the record, I definitely think that this is a playoff team. Now I want to see how strong of a playoff team. Games like the ones on this road trip are good indicators.

Within 30 minutes of arriving in T-Town on Friday I ran into Boskovic and Salihi enjoying a late morning coffee at the Canteen. I congratulated Salihi on his fight and goal on Wednesday and asked him to do it again the next day.

    He did. I like Salihi.

Observations from my time spent in T-Town:
    • that tower is hella tall
    • everyone seems to know De-Ro, be from Scarboro or be De-Ro's cousin (or at least know his cousin)
    • United players enjoy playing cards in the hotel bar (not drinking) on night's before a big game
    • Eat at the Jerk Spot (De-Ro goes there)
    • TFC can make the front page of the Sunday Toronto Star for being 0-8
    • Mario Lopez is a big night club draw
    • Poutine can be consumed for every meal
    • Porter Airlines: "FREE DRINK IN-FLIGHT"
    • Tim Horton's coffee comes with milk and sugar
    • TFC fans are really nice. I pity their situation.
    • Canada is not really a hockey nation
    • Leggings ARE considered pants in Canada

    • I'd say that has been just about everywhere for a few years. They made a strong comeback, but it seems like it has been fading more recently. Sometimes I appreciate it. Other times, I don't.

USA beats Canada 5-4 and not one Canadian could give 2 fucts? or only one 36 inch tv in a 10,000 sq foot sports bar dedicated to a hockey game in which their nation's team is playing the USA? I guess they were more interested in Liverpool losing.

I thought we actually had a pretty sloppy game. The two goals were beautiful but it seemed like we were not connecting on many of our passes all through the night - I feel like we could have been in trouble had we been facing a more coherent opposition.

Given the lineup we had though I'm obviously happy to see the win. But it's not the XI that I would have started, and not the subs I would have made either. Whatever though. A win is a win, and a road win a road win. How's that for profound for you.

I've never heard of people (in North America) really caring about the IIHF World Championships since it takes place during the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and the best players often aren't available. Occasionally players will join their national team after they are booted from the playoffs.

The IIHF isn't really much of a thing, AFAIK. Now, if the Leafs were in the playoffs and there was a game on, every TV in every bar would be turned to the game and the city would be a sea of blue and white.

Winning the Stanley Cup is the pinnacle of achievement in hockey. Everything else, even an Olympic gold medal, is secondary.

Plus, you get to take the Stanley Cup home for a weekend and eat food out of it and take it to strip clubs and stuff, or baptise your kid in it.

No way. It's a good option for getting him on the field, but he's better on the wing. I can't see how Cruz can play like he does and not miss quite a few games down the line from getting cards and physically worn out. DeLeon will hit a wall. Najar is going to play a lot on the wing for us.

I'm not sure that I should enjoy how much MLSE sucks at everything. Canadian NHL teams aren't really getting it done right now.
