I'm starting to wonder when we're going to get moved out of the 'expansion' folder. MLS teams typically have that done for them within a few days after MLS Cup finished. Not that I expect anywhere near that attention, being a lowly PDL team and all. But the NASL season has now started, which means it's not that long before USL games start up. It would be nice to no longer be 'expansion' before we start playing games.
We can add this to the list of what we'd like from BigSoccer on the forum administration. Still looking at the crest to change, but no luck even though we've reached out to the Administrator and Super Administrator. SoccerPrime has been helpful, but his higher ups have provided zero feedback. I wonder if it may have something to do with the downturn in activity on BigSoccer in this forum...
Here is an interesting read from Dan and the FreeBeerMovement about the state of soccer in Austin. It also has links to some of the darker moments some of us local soccer supporters have endured. http://www.thefreebeermovement.com/2012/04/announcing-austin-aztex-project.html
The kit is excellent! Kudos to whoever designed it. When I purchase one, as I certainly intend to do, it will probably be my favorite jersey in my (relatively small) collection.
Well, uh... if I'm not mistaken, our old logo is gone... but there's no new logo in its place, AND we're just "Austin" instead of "Austin Aztex." I guess this is an improvement...
I guess that's why they were ignoring the request for a logo change. Would've been nice if they'd've answered with that explanation rather than silence. But considering how up-in-arms things get when BS goes through a major change, I guess I can see their reason. Then again, maybe they were just to busy with the change. Which also makes sense. As for the name, well, they're swamped with the change, I expect. Once again, we're a lowly PDL team, so we'll be way beneath all the bugs that are now being dealt with, I'm sure.
Here is a link to the new Aztex Media Guide. Our first home game is almost here. http://www.austinaztex.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/AztexMediaGuide.pdf
Great game. Can't gloat too much about it since the Patriots received two red cards, but still, what a home opener. And a good crowd, too. There were some young kids (maybe 10-12) behind us who were really into it, breaking down every play. Tyrpak is looking like a star already! Their one goal was basically a gift from us, unfortunately. The guy who scored it has a Japanese last name, Aizawa, and an almost-Japanese first name, Naoyas, but he's listed on their roster as a Mexican national. I'm always interested in players with connections to Japan, so I'd like to know more about him.
I love the new Kits. So much better then the Chivas looking kits when the person I dare not name owned the team. Here's to Austin being a new NASL club in the near future. Would love to see a Austin/San Antonio Derby. Plus a Preseason Texas Cup would be nice between Dallas/Houston/San Antonio/ and Austin.
I was hoping to buy a jersey last night, but the person at the merchandise table said they hadn't arrived yet. He thought they were available online, but I'm going to wait until they're available at the game so I can be sure of the size. They are very, very classy, though, I can't wait to buy one.
There were several reports posted this morning. The Austin Aztex had their match report online as early as last night. Eberly's Army had a quick blurb, and will be adding more later. You can also read and see about last night at the Facebook pages for the Aztex and Army. So, in all actuality, there was a bit written about the game. If you're referring to the absence of other media (print, TV, radio), then that shouldn't be surprising, nor is it strictly an Austin issue.
Young Manneh looked sensational.. bigger things ahead for him I think. Yes good attendance too was pleasantly surprised.
