Its a great league but a step below the Spanish, UK or Italian league in terms of quantity and quality of big clubs.

He has a good thing in the Bundesliga but he could have had an awesome thing going on for him in the big clubs of Spain, UK or Italy. I think Farfan was complacent. Yes, he is good enough to do it in Germany, he has already proven that. He is a household name. But he should have taken the next step.

I can't say I am over the moon that he renewed. Alike others, I had high hopes he would become a household name in world football and follow the example of players like Suarez, Valencia, Vida, Falcao, etc, players who took risks to become bigger and better. Farfan is taking the easy way out.

forget about the italian league its done for a while and its a bit of a joke, the Bundesliga is where its at if you want the 3rd best league around

or he could sit on his ass like Pizarro did at Chelsea, there is a chance none of the big teams actually wanted him so should he have gone to a fulham or something like that?

disagree he is taking the easy way out, one could see it as he sees his current team as a challenge and wants to win something with them, sometimes going to a big team and sitting on the bench is the easy way out, depends how you look at it

he is playing in a top 3 league, getting decent money and playing CL football (at worst europa league)

more than most Peruvians could hope for

Bayern is in a class of its own. Yes, I'll give you that now. But I'll prefer Inter, Juve, Milan, Napoli or Roma over Schalke or any other German club anyday of the week with my eyes closed.

Well, sitting on your ass is part of the challenge. Pizarro tried and he failed. But that is the gist of it, trying, to see if you are good enough. If you are not then return where you are good and content yourself with that (like Pizza). But at least try.

Farfan is better than a lot of EPL players. He is one of the best in the bundesliga. He is good enough.

I am pretty sure Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and some EPL clubs wanted him. In fact even his manager from FFOSA said they had had talks with Liverpool. I suspect they didn't offer him superstar money which he expected

He is quitting the possibility of taking a bigger challenge.

yet the Italian league is dying a slow death

and working your ass off in an inferior team isnt a challenge?

he was looking for a club, but clearly none materialized, the situation was not right for whatever reason

and if anything being on contract could be a way for schalke to sell him so they get money instead of him going as a free agent

yet he is probably the fittest he has ever been

runs back and helps defense and has shifted to the wing pretty well considering that's not what he started as

But those clubs still have the best players worldwide.

Of course it is. Its not like Farfan is retiring. But it is LESS of a challenge. And the thing that gets me is that I think he was up for it. Its not like, for example, Cruzado or Ramirez rejected an offer to go to Chelsea. It would probably be the best thing to do in that case because they both would never ever play no matter how good they got. But Farfan has the quality. He excels in nearly every match he plays in the Bundesliga. There is a good chance he could have gained a name for himself at a bigger stage.

The reason he didn't go was because he didn't get offered the megabucks he expected. I could almost swear it. If this was not it then his agent is majorly incompetent.

Being a free agent is the best status you may have if you want to move. You alone get to call the shots. Thats why Pizarro went to Chelsea, for example. I don't think Chelsea would have been prepared to pay Bayern for Pizarro. Now he is not as attractive to buying clubs as they have to negotiate and pay S04 first. And time passes as well.

Oh well, its not the end of the world but it is a disapointment.

Farfan pretty much will end his career at low heralded Schalke 04 of Bundesliga.

But I understand what you're saying. Would have been nice to see Farfan at a bigger league, but in the long run his decision to stay at Schalke might benefit la sele. This way he doesn't 'burn' himself out, playing for an EPL team.

That is ok by me, I am sure he will continue to excel and do good in a worthy league where we proudly have two more Peruvians. It just not the ideal situation.

You said it yourself in the "Otras partes del Mundo" thread:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1793266&page=41

Its about having that different mentality which Farfan didn't show.

depends again your speculating if an actual offer was made

there seems to be genuine surprise he did stay, since he seemed destined to go, but other clubs might have passed on him, therefore he has no option

so if thats the case it dosnt come down to his mentality, just shit luck there are probably younger more marketable stars out there in his position

Vargas on the other hand is a shadow of the player he was, you cant say the same for Farfan who has been excellent for his team this season
