Very well put Jon, leave the white shirt to more traditional footballing nations like Germany and England. Hardly iconic or original for the US Team. Now (and hopefully this is not just a "fad") this will become the official kit of the Nat team for ever, a very identifiable, iconic and ORIGINAL (As in no other Nat team in the world has it) uniform.
I can even imagine non-soccer fans wearing this shirt for patriotic events such as 4th of July, Memorial days,
    --------------------------------------------

This .....The new jersey is a great permanent home look for the USA
Personally I would rather have a more formal collar on this shirt. But it's basically a keeper-- the stripes that is
Also I do wish we wore white shorts But I'm willing to give the new shirt and blue shorts a chance

Yeah. I'm not sure what game, by it's from the Olympics. And yeah I was looking at some photos and it appears to be tape over the crest. We snuck in our shield at the bottom of the numbers though, it appears.

And I'm pretty positive a pic of a blank back jersey just like this was up on either ussoccer store or Nike when they were unveiled.

Oh and I also think our new set will look cool with white shorts and look forward to seeing a few different combinations. Oh and also do hire shorts exist in our new sets??

Agree, I think Red hoops shirt, white shorts and blue socks would make a sharp looking kit, still think the new shirt and blue shorts look too "busy".
I'm very glad the US team (M or W) is not going to look like a bland "home whites" high school team anymore!!
I also wonder how much input Klinsmann had in all of this, being that he is a football traditionalist!

Bought mine 2 days ago and have to say it looks great in person. Although, I've been a fan of it since it was released. I made a quick video to showcase it if anyone is interested in seeing it 'live':

you guys are nuts, i refuse to believe that the hoops will become the iconic USA look, im not a guy who's ever cared much about our jersey design, but at least we should have some standards... i think when you start looking like candy canes and barber shop poles you need to start considering re-evaluating who is coming up with these jersey designs.

honestly i wouldn't mind the jerseys the USWNT wore during the world cup (the black ones)... or, do what every other usa national sport team does and have a predominately blue jersey with a little red complementing it (with a white home jersey and with some blue and red complementing it), with a simple yet sleek and stylish design. I really don't see why we utterly refuse to do it in this sport

Edit: oh and if you are going to show me a counter example, i don't really remember jerseys before like 2009 and the sash ones to me also look kind of dumb (Besides the red and blue ones we wore during the slovenia game last november, i actually kind of like those for no real good reason)

I LOL'd out loud when your response to the complaint about it looking like a Waldo shirt was that it will be paired with blue shorts....

Seriously! How could something with red and white stripes, specifically: 13 red and white stripes, ever become iconic in this country? Especially when you complement it with navy blue! Seriously, red, white and blue??? Who came up with that color combo???

If you want "iconic American," you just need to slap a fat dude with a gun on that shirt and nobody will ever question where we're from!

Are we discussing what would look good on a flag? Or what would look good on a jersey?

Funny how the posters who are complaining about the new US home kits are the same posters who spazz out when the US beats a meaningful team in a meaningless friendly.

Look it's just a jersey nothing more nothing less, I for one don't see anything remotely wrong with them I only care about one thing and one thing only and this the USMNT getting results. Almost everyone who has posted on this thread when the USMNT debut the Away kits complained to no ends about how ugly they were and yet when the USMNT managed to get an Historic result for the first time ever in those very same away kits, the same posters who complained about them fliped a complete 180° saying how great they looked and all that bs.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again, this time the USMNT achieving the impossible and this winning in the Fortress which is Estadio Azteca in the very same home kits that keeps getting slamed over and over again, the result of us winning in that place would shock the hell out of me but the reaction that is to follow afterwards wouldn't.

Seems like Nike found a pretty good balance to me.

dude it has nothing to do with the colors, it has all to do with the retarded design of the jersey

Edit: and honestly you can argue the flag thing, but tbh while our american flag is in fact very american, making our jersey look like an american flag (while kind of a neat idea in theory) clearly looks dumb in implementation (in my opinion). We might as well go buy a bunch of american flags and wrap it around the players

i don't really care that much either, just commenting on people who are trying to hype this jersey up as our look going forward... it looks awful, doesn't mean i won't watch, and id rather win with an awful jersey than lose with an awesome one. Just pointing out the fact that we are an USA national team, not santa's little helpers

That pretty much says your taste in uniform design. If you liked the women's jerseys(if you wanna call em that) than you probably have no idea what good design is.

BINGO! That's exactly the point. That's what these jerseys are supposed to look like.

You might not like it. I didn't really care for it at first. But that is the look they are going for here.

So as much as people want to say they look like Waldo shirts or barber poles or candy canes, Ol' Glory has been around longer than any of those things. And most people are going to associate this uniform with the flag. Especially people in other countries.

Whether it catches on as an "iconic" design or not? I don't really care. But I could see it happening.

well, duh its kind of obvious. And no, more people here will probably make fun of it because it looks like waldo or the sleeves of ronald mcdonald then associate it with the flag, it's already been painfully apparent just from the BS forums alone... and it still doesn't change my point that it was a stupid choice

umm okay?? number one im merely expressing my opinion, and number two id guarantee if you took a nationwide poll far more people would agree that the black ones at least are at least less annoying to look at then these new red and white striped jerseys.

Well to start things off, black has no association with the USA or the flag.

Painfully apparent? I must be missing something. There seems to be 2 or 3 guys swearing it's the ugliest shirt ever for every 10 guys saying it's a decent shirt.

I know you're new around here, but there was just as much, if not more, uproar over the "beauty pageant sash/hall monitor kit" that we just got done wearing. That shirt probably sold more than any previous USA shirt ever. So initial reaction (especially on BS) isn't a good indication of how popular a shirt will be.

That said, if you don't like it, don't buy it. If enough people don't like it, then it wont sell very well. But I'm guessing it's probably going to be a pretty popular shirt since both senior teams are wearing it.

there is no orange on the netherlands flag, blue on italys, white on germanys, yellow on australias, etc. it doesnt necessarily have to be incorporating the flag just be iconic. france and italy are both called "the blues" so their kits are always blue, etc etc etc. US just needs something to be its own. might be hard since many things are taken but it can be done.

i dont mind the home kit but the away one to me is meh. the home kit doesnt need the sash either.

This keeps getting tossed around. Since the last time the US brilliantly tried to recreate a flag on a jersey, the home jersey for the World Cup has been a largely white jersey with blue and red splashed on there in different ways. Stick with that, it works.

And I'm sure that's what Nike is going to do. This is a year where they can do anything they want to do because in 10 years nobody will remember the 2012 jersey. Other than the fact that nobody will forget "that time we dressed like Waldo."

I won't get into too much detail, but all of those countries have reasons for wearing the colors they wear. Go look it up. They are all tied back to the colors of the royal house, royal dynasty, etc. Meanwhile, the black of the USA was simply an arbitrarily chosen color.

that was the away kit. nobody cares about those. i mean even mexico had a back kit as did germany and netherlands now. its the home one that matters.

and i didnt wanna bother listing more but there are at least a dozen other countries that follow suit. it just has to be unique. perhaps the US kit could incorporate a star instead of a boring sash.

The away jerseys for teams usually change because they are the ones that can be changed up more easily since the home ones usually stay about the same for most teams. Look at some of Germany's in years past. They've had red, green, black, etc.
