I think we really pissed away a great chance to tie if not win in Monterrey. We had more than enough chances to at least get one goal. But we didn't, we choked. Shocking how many poor decisions the attacking players made. It's why I think they're in our heads. Galindo didn't help either. We played hard but were foolish in front of goal and everyone can take blame. Quintero tried really hard but he frustrated the shit out of me tonight. Gomez hustled but also made bad plays and pissed away a great chance. The biggest disappointment was suarez, he didn't have it tonight. Once we went down, ludueña had to go in. Galindo made weak, scared decisions tonight that on some level trickled down to the team,
You pretty much got everything right in this post. We had three good opportunities to score a crucial away goal and wasted them. One right before Suazo scored his first goal. I think Galindo would have been better off send more players forward instead of playing so conservative. I understand that not wanting to give up goals is important but Santos isn't a defensive team and can't defend even if their lives depended on it. They only way we can beat teams is by outscoring them so I would of thought putting more pressure up top and getting at least a goal or two would have been smarter. I hate to be a pessimist, but giving up that second goal and not scoring an away goal really makes things more complicated. Even a 2-1 result would have been more manageable. If Monterrey scores at least one goal next week in Torreon, I think that will be it.
wow that call where the ref gave the goalie a yellow card for deliberately using his hand to block the ball outside the box was some buuuullshit.. however we didnt do enough in the second half to deserve the win
The yellow on De Nigris was a bad call; that easily could have been a red card. Anyways, I agree that we did not do enough in the second half to deserve the win. But I think the final was lost in the first leg when we did not score a single goal. We were never going to keep Monterrey from scoring so we needed goals, especially an away goal or two. I still think that we had the better chances in the two-leg final but Monterrey was able to finish a few and had a better defense. Orozco played out of his mind in the return leg at TSM. Well, on to the league now. We better finish as champions at the end of the liguilla. However, we will be punished for reaching the league final by being sent to play in the CONCACAF Champion's league again. (I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I would much rather play in the Libertadores. This squad could do well in that tournament.)
You guys are already qualified to the next Concachampions. Remember who played in the last League Final last December.
Yes, but depending on how Santos finishes this season, it will determine if we enter directly to the the group stage or need to qualify like in this past Champions league.
Nope, they changed the rules. All 4 League finalists from both half-seasons go directly to the Group Stage now.
Anyone know if it's possible to turn off the live "GOOOOL" announcements on Santos' iPhone app without actually removing it? Seriously annoying when you're not able to watch the game live.
If Santos were to win the Clausura, then Chivas Guadalajara will take the final spot in the CONCACAF Champions League. The Apertura "superlider" will replace the Apertura "subcampeon". Tigres - Apertura campeon Chivas - Apertura superlider Santos - Clausura campeon Monterrey - Clausura subcampeon == If Monterrey were to win the Clausura, Santos would be "subcampeon" both times. Club America would get the 4th spot Tigres - Apertura campeon Santos - Apertura subcampeon Monterrey - Clausura campeon Club America - Clausura #3
Just some random thoughts and tidbits: The clubs are a lot closer than I thought statistically, but I'd still give Monterrey the edge as the better team overall. We have the better record, but they're +2 in goal differential. Basically, it's a toss up offensively, but they're a more solid defensive team. Top 3 in the league, slightly better than Tigres. IMO, defensively, we're worse than we look on paper. Downright awful at times. That idiot, Galindo, insist on turning us into a more defensive-oriented squad despite the players insistence on sucking at defense. Hopefully, our performance in the playoffs thus far have made him realize that our best defense, is our offense. I thought we were easily the best home team this season, but Monterrey is even better: +1 in games won; 1 less draw; +4 in GF, and -1 GA. I hope Herc Gomez and Marc Crosas see more playing time this series. Especially Crosas, whom I feel has been underutilized. He could be an X factor if given the chance.
Have you guys heard the rumors about Diego Forlan being offered to Tigres? Goddamn, I hope that doesn't go down for our sake.
Haha 'vampiro peralta'. Everytime they show a close up of his face it looks like he just finished drinking blood or eating some raw meat.
Highlights for those who missed it. I'm going to be bitter as Hell if we end up losing. Should have been a 2 - 1 win for Santos. How about that pass from Marc Crosas?
