Football is a contact sport or it's not a contact sport. It's obvious La Liga plays and officiates in a way that discourages body-on-body contact like in England, Scotland, or Germany. There's no debate on this issue, it's a cultural attitude towards the concept of football: Spain likes it's technique and it's pretty football. There's also no debate that less bodily contact produces less wear-and-tear on players over the course of a season: it's physical fact. Therefore, by logical extension, Spanish clubs have significant advantages going into European competition, with a softer domestic league, especially if European officiating, again, favors less bodily contact. Therefore, an English or German European club title means significantly more than Spanish ones because they've endured more overall wear-and-tear through all competitions in a year. La Liga tarnishes Spanish club European success.

I just did. Barca players are fresher for Europe with less body contact in domestic competition. Many CL refs also discourage body contact. If Barca starts taking English and German style body contact and punishment they don't go as far in Europe.

If you think I'm an idiot, then why? Where's your argument? C'mon now.

There's no argument here, you have presented subjective logic. I guess the only counter worth posing, why do you assume the physical nature of a league is the primary determinant of it being credible? Does baboonery really signify the strength of one league versus another?

What the CL final boils down to is two teams, that clearly underachieved domestically, and have had little to play for in quite sometime, walked into a semi against exhausted opponents. If the semi's were played at any other point in the season, the finalist would be home being physical with one another.

This is a false argument because lots of leagues in Europe are as strict or stricter than the Spanish league in calling contact fouls and issuing Yellow and Red cards. Top officials from these leagues end up officiating CL and EL matches and call such matches conservatively (in contrast to English officials). German match officials are also pretty conservative and I don't think you can compare Bundesliga matches with those in England. I guess I just don't understand the point of your post.:(

If Lucho's suggesting Barca and Madrid are "exhausted" then what from? Not the 2-horse race of La Liga that's for sure. Chelsea and Bayern compete in superior leagues from top to bottom. La Liga coaches openly admit to fielding lesser squads whenever they play Barca and Madrid because they know they don't have a chance. These are essentially forfeited contests. This doesn't happen in EPL or Bundesliga. Your point is absurd.

And as far as physicality as credibility goes, there are players who fall down because they were knocked down. Then there are players who fall down because they didn't try to stay up. Are you playing the ball or playing the ref? Physics is the universal law of football. But not in La Liga.

Perhaps from the previous weekend? While El Clasico was taking place, Chelsea rested most of their first team while Bayern rested their starting XI that lined up in Madrid.

So you hate La Liga, we get that. But why did you also start a thread on this topic in the (wait for it) Premier League forum?
Why not open this topic in the Spain clubs forum instead of simply this one? Even the UEFA forum would make more sense than the Premier League forum.

Orange 14, exactly which European leagues are quicker with the yellow and the red than La Liga? You watch an average match in England, Germany, Scotland, France, and the Netherlands, and players are bumping each other left and right, and it's generally not considered honorable to fall over and work the ref for results. But in Spain and Italy it's practically considered a national past time.

We can accept "relative cultural standards" of football. But then what's not debatable is the effect more body on body contact has on the physical stamina of players cumulated over the course of an entire season across multiple campaigns. If the difference between some national leagues has become like apples and oranges, then let's at least be honest about that and fully recognize when one mode is favored over the other in shared European competitions.

As far as posting in the EPL forum, why not entertain different perspectives? What reply does unclesox have to La Liga coaches openly admitting to regularly fielding lesser squads against Barca and Madrid throughout the regular season? Would that add or detract from the value of this past or any other recent El Classico? Would La Liga forfeitures add or detract from Barca and Madrid's resources in their modern European campaigns?

unclesox replies that the resting of players by "lesser squads" is irrelevent to El Clasico. As long as the participants of El Clasico field their strongest lineups against one another El Clasico will remain the biggest domestic matchup on the planet.

Is candiag the Manchester United fan still bitter about Rome and Wembley? It sounds like it, and there is no debate on this issue.

Didn't Wolves openly field a virtual second team against Manchester United a year ago without shame? Surely this cannot be a one-off occasion.

Again, why do you choose ONE La Liga club forum to post this in while putting it out for the whole of the Premier League forum?
If different perspectives is really your intention, post this in the UEFA forum. Or the Spain Clubs forum.

The only reason that I'm commenting on this is because you misread my previous post. I watch all of the leagues you mention except for France and Scotland. Dutch match officials are the quickest with cards and do not tolerate any rough tackles at all. You see very quick Yellow cards and Red cards that would never be given in the English league. I would say that German officials are next in line in terms of not tolerating rough play followed by Spain. Italian officiating has changed dramatically as has their football with more teams adopting Dutch/Spanish tactics (sorry Barca fans but as you know your current approach to football originated up the road in Amsterdam) leading to more wide open play (Napoli & Udinese were first and we are now seeing Juventus and Roma follow). Match officials there are calling more rough play as a result. As for England, officiating is terrible as is much of the football. I think I'll now withdraw on this as I indicated earlier it's a pretty silly thread.

ever watch a la liga game?

also Chelsea had to adopt tactics they would never use against other teams in other leagues (see their destruction of Napoli)

so no if anything the way Chelsea played validates what la liga have to go through in facing Barca
