Seems appropriate to open a new Irish thread for 2012 with this news about the new recruits, first posted by TheAusMan on the 2011 thread. Good luck to the team in 2012 and hopefully it will get back to the College Cup.
Coach Randy tweet on the WPS: "I'll share more in depth thoughts later, but initially it sounds as though the league leadership is a mess as is 'Daddy'"
Definitely appropriate, especially given the type of talent they picked up. The link has good list of the best recruiting classes and I'm not really surprised ND is on top. Top Women's College Soccer Recruiting Classes
Notre dame hosting coaching clinic. Brian Bliss from the Columbus crew, Randy Waldrum, and Bobby Clark. I'm there this year. http://www.und.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/012912aab.html
Can't quite retweet here but Coach Randy tweeted: @MandyLaddish congrats to you and US U-20 WNT for 1-0 victory over Germany! Go get 'em, Mandy! And thanks to Coach for letting us know what's going for the U20s in Spain.
Congrats to Irish mid Mandy Laddish, who was named to the US U-20 roster for the 2012 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship to be held in Panama City, Panama, from March 1-11. Congrats too to senior D Jazmin Hall, the only NDer on the US U-23 team playing in the 2012 Four Nations Tournament in Spain. First match on Feb. 26 against Sweden.
From the Notre Dame Athletic website: "2012 NOTRE DAME WOMEN'S SOCCER SPRING SCHEDULE" "Saturday, March 31 - Old Alumni Field/ND Practice Field 11 a.m. - Notre Dame vs. Grand Valley State / Valparaiso vs. Western Michigan 2:30 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Western Michigan / Valparaiso vs. Grand Valley State Saturday, April 14 - Fort Wayne, Ind. (USF Spring Fling - Bishop D'Arcy Stadium) 5 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Dayton Saturday, April 21 - ND Practice Field 1 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Purdue REMINDER: This is the day of the Blue-Gold Spring Football Festival Friday, April 27 - Alumni Stadium 4:30 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Haitian National Team Sunday, April 29 - ND Practice Field Noon - Notre Dame vs. Iowa"
Can't wait for the Dayton game in Fort Wayne. Saint Francis is a great host and it's always for a great cause. The only draw back is the turf! Who all is playing that day? I think it would be great to pack that stadium. Dayton is always good so it should be great!
Randy's wrap-up ND blog post about his trip to Spain coaching the US U-23s: http://www.und.com/blog/w-soccer/ He mentions the significance of the trip for Jazmin Hall and ND: "It was a great experience too for both myself and Jazmin Hall who I hope now understands what it takes to continue to compete at the highest level possible. I think she will return to campus newly focused and pushing herself and her teammates to achieve even more. Thanks to all of you who have tweeted, emailed, and followed this journey of ours, and I'm so proud to represent Notre Dame with this USA team!"
From Chris Masters' NDsoccernews tweets: "After win/draw in 1st spring matches, @NDSoccer back in action at 5pm ET Sat v Dayton at USF Spring Fling in Ft. Wayne" Did anyone go to/hear anything more about the first spring matches?
They drew 0-0 with DII runner up Grand Valley State and beat Western Michigan 7-0 on the same day. I believe both games were 60 minutes.
Ken Nuber tweets (courtesy of Chris Masters RT): "Great showing by the Irish today. 4-0 win over purdue. for those who saw lit great goal by @MandyLaddish"
Congratulations to Katie Uhler (Lonestar '96) and her parents. Katie verbally committed to ND for 2014 over the weekend. GREAT player on a national championship team. Even better kid. And awesome parents. I'm not a golden domer but I'll have to start rooting for the Irish now.
if you’re in South Bend, IN you can enjoy some international soccer later tonight when the Mexican Under-20 national team faces the University of Notre Dame in an exhibition at Alumni Stadium. http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/sports...y-against-mexico-haiti-1.2862654#.T5psKI6SVN0
That's actually the men's match (against the Mexico U20s). The Irish women are playing the Haiti National Team at 4:30 Friday, prior to the men vs. Mexico at 7:00.
Will Randy Waldrum be on the sidelines, or will he be on a plane to Dallas interviewing (again) for a Texas job?
Cheap shot and entirely unnecessary. Why does everyone insist Randy is looking for the first plane out of South Bend just because there are openings in Texas? He's got 2 national titles, countless BIG EAST titles, the top recruiting class in the nation this fall and arguably the best home facility in the nation, not to mention the power of the Notre Dame name and its academic reputation behind him. What makes you think he would consider leaving, other than it being a job in his home state?
Because the only reason he is not in Fort Worth right now, as head coach of TCU, is because he insisted on bringing his reprobate son along with him (and why was he separated from ND?). Job was offered, money was agreed on, but the anti nepotism policy killed it. Oh, he threw his hat in the ring in Austin, as well. And let's face it, other than the school, South Bend is a dung hole. Other than that no reason.
As a ND fan I was annoyed that he was looking for the "grass is greener on the other side" job. When ND will always be a draw for recruits. Especially of the Catholic faith. South Bend may be a dump, as you say, but it is only 90 miles away from the best city in the world. Go Fire. Go Red Stars.
