De Gea is a great keeper. He's had about the same rate of gaffes at United that Howard did, depending on you feel about Timmy's time there.

But (incidentally relevant to this thread) they've paid a lot more for the 20-year-old De Gea than they paid for the 24-year Howard, so De Gea will have a much longer grace period than a player in Howard's situation (or any cheap, late-blooming MLSer at any position) would ever get.

De Gea is good, tremendously athletic. Still kinda creepy looking though, like Hans Klopek from the Burbs (obscure reference I know, old Tom Hanks movie)

Sadly, as valuable as he was to Fulham, he was not named to the "Team of the Year"

Premier League team of the year: Joe Hart (Man City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham), Vincent Kompany (Man City), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle), Leighton Baines (Everton), David Silva (Man City), Yaya Toure (Man City), Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd).

How is Joe Hart in there? And six Brits? No Paul Scholes either. Three from Spurs? One from Man utd?

Because he was excellent this season. Probably the best GK in the league.

Not a stand out season, unlike Michel Vorm who's been a revelation to many.

Of course he's been "a revelation to many" as he was a relative unknown when the season started and has performed very well. However, Hart has had the better season.

You could argue he would replace Scott Parker, Toure or Bale, but not Silva. Parker and Bale are on the team due to past year's achiements. Dempsey clearly outperformed them this year. Personally I think Yaya is underrated in his role at City, but his presence is huge for them in the middle of the park, a very settling figure.

Since when has Dempsey excelled at playing as a defensive mid or a two-way mid?

Now, now, SPA2TACU5, nearly everyone knows these teams are voted on by the players beginning in January. Here's the Alternative PFA PFA Premier League Team of the Year. . . .

    http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2012/4/27/2980173/the-alternative-pfa-premier-league-team-of-the-year

FC: Grant Holt of Norwich City, now that's more like it! Only three Brits, counting Holt, Vorm is the GK and Dempsey the AMC!

I wasn't aware as I never take any interest into these silly awards.
If that's true then this award is complete bull hockey.

    Now, SPA2TACU5, high horse parking is around back . . . .:D

Consider that being honored by one's peers is the greatest honor which can be bestowed.

Robin VanPersie (PFA player of the year said it)

'It is very special because you are playing against them week in week out and every single player does everything to win and in the end if they make up their minds that I'm the best player it is a big honour.'

Are you saying we should have our own "BigSoc member of the Year" contest?

We do. I've won it 3 years running. No one else is allowed to vote, but that's beside the point . . .
