    Your wish is my command.

The main reason I wanted to post this so early was to see if any plans had been made for some kind of fan effort to recognize and honor Davy Arnaud? I would hate for the johnny-come-latelys in the stands, who may not know Davy's history with the club, to do something ridiculous like boo him or ignore him.

If there is ever a SKC Hall of Fame, he's a first ballot shoe-in. Hope y'all will make him feel welcome on his return.

So we shouldn't do the standard "KC Reject - clap clap clap clap clap?" :D

Someone on the facebook group mentioned something at the 22nd minute. I think that would be cool, but not sure how everyone feels about doing it during the game. I personally would love to hear Davy Arnaud - King of Arrowhead at some point.

As for the game - no reason to score less than 6 goals. CJ with a brace, Kei and Chance with a hattrick.

I'm against in game recognition of a former player who is on the other team.

That would depend on the size of this fantasy first class, I'd have Preki and Mo ahead of him for sure and arguments could be made for Zavagnin, Meola, Garcia, Conrad, and Klein.

No one wore the Kansas City shirt more than Arnaud in the club's entire history to date, a record that won't change for a long time. He's ahead of Garcia and Klein for sure. I'd put him in the first 6 with the others you named.

Agreed. Before the game would seem best.

Let us not forget who one of their starting CB's is.....Shavar Thomas. I hope Montreal tries the offside trap early on. :D And oh, there's the battle of another ex-Wizard Tyson Wahl vs. Kei/Chance on the right side too. This should be loads of fun, especially with us well rested...would love to see our first comb of the season in this one.

Technically Zavagnin wore the shirt more than anyone, Davy wore it the most in league play, add in playoffs, open cup, CCC, and Copa mercanorte and Zavagnin is still ahead.

Put me in the ballot box for a rousing round of "King of Arrowhead" during warmups, a hearty cheer during the lineup announcements, and then... well then he's on the wrong side of the ball and all is fair game. i wouldn't like to hear a "Sporting Reject" chant, but at the same time I'm not wishing him well for 90 minutes either.

    I really dislike that "cheer".

Thanks. Wasn't sure about that. So let's call them both awesome first-ballot KC HOF'ers and leave it at that. :)

This all sounds good. But rather than King of Arrowhead, how about a simple "DA-VY-AR-NAUD" (clap-clap-clapclapclap)? After all, being King of Arrowhead wasn't necessarily much to be proud of. And then there were the CAB years... :p

Also, let's not forget that Arnaud didn't choose to leave - we traded him away. I'm sure he would have been happy to end his career here if it would have worked out that way. No bad blood between him and PV and the front office, either, from the sound of it.

I have no problem applauding a former player in-game, certainly not Davy.

In-game signs of respect by a player toward a former club are common. (E.g. former player not celebrating his goal score). Further, home fans certainly have applauded former players during matches many times over. (E.g. Craig Bellamy checking in during the 55' at Man City this year). I can't see that its off limits....

Maybe I am wrong and its been done before, but applauding a former player during a predetermined minute-XX of a match he's in almost feels like he's dead or very ill or something. That's not the case here -- Davy's coming to beat us, not play some sort of love-fest testimonial.

James wrote this about Davy after Davy/skc met terms with Montreal. For anyone who missed it last year:

While we traded him I've got to think it's what he wanted. I really don't think he would have been happy on the bench here when he could start somewhere else.

I think this is probably right on the money, he just wasn't a starter anymore once Roger Espinoza and Zusi got their hooks in and Davy never did strike me with a guy that is happy to sit and watch... a chance to play first team football in Montreal was probably quite tempting for him.

Davy's departure, as well as Jack's, was totally win-win. And when you have a win-win it is stupid to talk about things like "who left who" and whatnot.

Davy wanted to stay and play but it wasn't going to happen like wanted it to. Sans that he decided that playing is more important to him (and his career, finances, etc.) than staying. Who can blame him for that? Not I.

He deserves to be welcomed back warmly before the game, treated like an opposing player that we respect during the game and then I figure it's up to him how he is treated after the game (that is, he could leave the field quickly or he could party with the Cauldron in the MC - and everything in between).

On top of that, I generally agree with KCFutbol that the "Wizards Reject" chant is not one of my favorites. The only players I really would want to chant it at are the ones who felt like they were too good for Kansas City in the first place, so it would be lost on them.

Now that I have my stats in front of me

    League:
    Arnaud - 240
    Zavagnin - 237
    Garcia - 224

    All Competitions:
    Zavagnin - 291
    Arnaud - 273
    Garcia - 273

    And just for comparison, starts

    League:
    Zavagnin - 228
    Garcia - 224
    Arnaud - 213

    All Competitions
    Zavagnin - 281
    Garcia - 272
    Arnaud - 234

Zavagnin gets lost in history quite often it seems because he didn't put up the offensive numbers.

Still probably my favorite tifo we've ever done.

    You mean Ryan Smith?

I don't like the chant either, but since we are in a bye week, I would like to hear everyone's All-Time Wizards Reject Starting XI. The hate-based version, not the welcomed alumni version.

Alexi "I'm retiring so I don't have to play here" Lalas pretty much has to be captain, doesn't he? Although I suppose Ryan Smith would be in contention.

But who could forget that goal against Chivas?

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnSCNHDUBqc"]07/29/07: Chivas USA @ Kansas City Wizards | Game Highlights - YouTube[/ame]
at about 1:05 for those who can't take the time to find it themselves.

I think of Arnaud in much the same way I think of Zavagnin, and I figure that what Arnaud decides to do when he does hang up his playing boots will help cement his place in Wizards/SKC history...

Which does remind me - how awesome is it that we have two former players in our coaching staff, including head coach/TD?

Almost seems like this should be its own thread?

I don't hate Ryan Smith as much as most, I think. I do believe he had actual family problems he had to deal with and, while perhaps he didn't deal with them in a manner that we all would've liked, I don't want to jump all over a guy who chooses family over his job.

Still, I'd say that the way it all went down gets him to the bench.

Lalas is up there.. way up there. I think he gets two spots.

Yura is one that comes to mind... not terribly happy how that went down.

For whatever reason, I've always held somewhat of a grudge against Will John, but I also think that I am still overreacting to his parting shot.

Lalas is at the top of my list... with Preki running a very close second!

I don't really fault Yura. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought he asked to be transferred as it was unlikely he would be a starter, similar to Jack and Davey, just at a different point in his career. It ended up being a good for his career too.

Not sure if he counts, but I'd throw Luis Gil on the list.
