I'm sure many of his teammates want Forte to get a good deal, but understand that we are only talking about degrees. The team technically would have been within their rights to franchise Forte and not even offer him a long term contract. Now, that really would have been taking advantage of him. That isn't what the Bears did, they have made an offer to him, Forte just doesn't think the offer is good enough. I don't know how much the Bears offered or how much Forte wants, but many GMs not just the Bears don't want to sink money into RBs, because so many teams have been burned paying dead money into beat up RBs who aren't producing. In my opinion, Forte should at least get a deal better than say, for example Marshawn Lynch, but I wouldn't pay Forte Adrian Peterson money if that's what he wants.
yeah, I agree. RBs are a bad investment for teams at this point. especially with all the emphasis on the passing game. and you can find pretty good running backs in the later rounds of the draft. so no need to give big money to RBs from a team perspective. but from a player perspective, I don't begrudge a player holding out for a better deal - unless he's a Jet, in which case he's just a selfish, spoiled bastard.
For those that haven't heard, the NFL adopted the playoff overtime rules for the regular season. If the team that loses the coin toss kicks a field goal on its opening drive, the other team gets a chance to tie the score or win the game. It is still sudden death in all other situations. But I wonder this: if the team that wins the coin toss takes ten minutes to score a field goal and the other team takes the next five minutes but only gets to the fifty, what happens? Is the game over? Do they keep playing until that series ends?
well if it's truly the playoff OT rules, then I would expect that they keep playing until one side wins. can't end a playoff game in a tie...
Which may be true, but I would have thought that they would have made a point that games can no longer end in ties. And to be honest, I am not entirely certain what would have happened in the same situation in a playoff game. I remember reading something that implied that they would play a 2nd OT in such a situation but never saw confirmation of that anywhere else. Frankly I find the entire idea stupid. I like sudden death and I hate the shootout that is college OT, but I do understand why people don't like the coin toss. If it were up to me, I wouldn't even have a coin toss--the home team kicks off the first half, the visitor the second. Kicking team picks which direction they'll kick. If it were up to me, I could live with the following solutions: Tie games--both teams were equal Keep what we had--if you can't play defense with 30 seconds, you lose. If you can't play defense 30 seconds after the end of regulation, you should still lose. Play a fixed period of time--15 minutes, 10 minutes, the old CFL two halves of 5 minutes (which gave both teams at least one possession) Both teams have to have an equal number of possessions or the clock has to run out--extra innings but with all the elements of football. Golden Touchdown--first team to score a touchdown AND be in the lead wins, or whoever leads when time expires First Past the Post--first team to score six points or whoever leads when time expires; doesn't matter if its one touchdown, two field goals, three safeties, or six points for missing kicks when someone accidentally uses the wrong AFL rulebook
Today is somewhat a big day for the NFL, depending on how you look at it. Nike will unveil the new uniforms with a big event in New York later this morning. They've done a really good job of keeping the overall look a secret. I think I might have seen one leak of the Jags unis that really didn't show much. A lot of people have wondered if they're going to give the teams a complete overhaul much like what they do for the college ranks. But this is supposedly not the case unless teams wanted to re-brand, which I believe is the case for the Seahawks. I'm quite excited for this so we'll see what comes of it.
In other words, add plenty of black to all the uniforms because that's the big "thug" color and will give teams "street cred" -- just like they've done with college basketball. God help us.
There are so many college b-ball teams adding black every once in a while that nothing can be taken from it anymore. Once Duke did it, that was the end of any alleged street cred for the rest.
I'd like to think teams will be smarter than to add black for black's sake. The Mets finally learned and ditched the black (almost entirely) and they look like the Mets again. Black was a fad in the late 90's and for the most part, it's been eradicated from the sporting landscape, except the Isles who decided to add a hideous black jersey this season. For the NFL, we'll see. I highly doubt that a lot of these teams whose uniforms are a huge part of their identity (Cowboys, Packers, Steelers) will make any radical changes to their uniforms. From everything I've read, the main difference between Reebok and Nike will be the material of the jerseys. I'm sure there will be some minor changes to some teams, but the overall look should remain intact for most teams, again, unless the teams had planned an overhaul.

As a traditionalist (I still prefer baseball uniforms with stirrup socks and shorter pants) I typically recoil at most uniforms that come our way. And since I refuse to buy most uniforms hoisted on us by the teams, I can ignore most of them (though the green cammo Baylor men's b-ball jerseys were hard to ignore), I like the Dallas uniform. This one is kept pretty simple, the only innovation are in the gloves and cleats. I won't bemoan this change...

RG3 tweets about meeting women's soccer star Alex Morgan, only he was mixed up was actually talking to Tobin Heath. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...lex-morgan/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_bf1_a3
RGIII will return my Skins to their glory years...or be a complete bust. You never know with these college kids!
Waiting for the Jets to trade either Sanchez (and many draft picks) or Revis to the Vikings so they can move up to the third spot for the Alabama running back. Huge black cloud over this team right now.
Would the Vikes be swapping their first round pick in the deal for Revis or would the Jets end up with both first round picks? If I was the Vikes I wouldn't consider Sanchez, but sure Revis would be enticing. So, you'd be OK with Tebow, Richardson and Green and the Jets running the ball like 50 times a game? They could run the veer.
I so hope (against hope, of course) the Skins pass on RGIII- the last thing a rookie QB needs is an idiot like Shanahan overseeing his development. Luck's going to have the same issues QBing the Andrea Dor- uh, Colts, with Irsay micromanaging everything.
Why don't you like Shanahan. The Browns traded for #3, so I guess the Jets aren't getting Richardson.
