I'd say cut the guy some slack
He is a rather introverted human being, you can tell.
And the shit he's had to deal with over the years from the Costa Rican press would make all of us turn a cold shoulder to those trying to get a piece of your mind right after a game.

For what it's worth, I had a great 1on1 experience with Sabo. My old lady was mom of the match for a game in which he, Olave, and Javi were all having to sit out of. We were allowed down on the field in the area right behind the bench. I went up and talked to him in broken spanglish and he was really cool with me. If you respect him, he'll respect you was the impression I got

As much as I love McBride PrimaDonnavan has been a better striker.

I've certainly never said or done anything disrespectful toward him, nor have any of the others in the media pool to my knowledge so I'm not sure it's a respect issue. I think Sabo is just a different guy - moody, temperamental, a bit shy. And frankly I'm OK with it - he's done a lot for this team and not everybody needs to be as open as, say, Chris Wingert.

That's why I'm glad RSL has a former striker as a coach as opposed to a former defender (paging Jay Heaps...). JK has acknowledged on several occasions how moody Sabo is and he knows how to deal with it.

Happy to get a point in Dallas, especially with how we were playing in the first half, I thought we were gonna extend our losing streak. Kudos to Kreis and the staff for getting our boys back on track for the 2nd half!

I don’t understand the Sabo hate. The guy does all the little things that helps our midfield so much. Speaking of the midfield, outside of Beckerman, I’ve been really disappointed as of late with Johnson, Gil, Seba, Steele, and Javi. I don’t understand how teams can shut down Beckerman and completely destroy any fluidity we have. Javi and company need to step up and force defenders to focus on everyone not just Kyle. Though, with that said, I was really impressed with the runs by Shuler and Borchers to open up the midfield and doing what Kyle usually does. It was a nice adjustment on our coaching staff to say, “You’re gonna shut out Kyle? We’ll send one of our CB’s forward then.” We’re really lucky to have 3 amazing CB’s that can do so much for our team.

Set pieces have been a joke thus far for us. We’ve given up way to many corners and dangerous free kicks. On the other side of things, our corners and free kicks have been lacking.

I was really happy Grabs played. He really is our cog in the midfield that can free up space for Javi and Kyle. He’s under-valued and his two-way play really helps our midfield soooooo much.

A point in Dallas, is a point in Dallas! On to the next one!

Actually being at the game and witnessing those 30 minutes of domination by Dallas, I felt like they deserved a goal, but your analysis is spot on. RSL really "deserved" a goal in the 2008 playoff game with NYRB. They also really "deserved" a goal in the CONCACAF final. FC Dallas "deserved" a goal in the first half for as dangerous as they were, but that penalty was garbage.

If he gives me the chance, I will definitely respect him. Gotta admit, I shouldn't knock him really, considering I have no idea what it is like to be him. I would love for a chance to trade some Spanish with him. Lucky you :)

Indeed we are giving our opponents far too many opportunities on set pieces. Even if we defend them well, you give someone enough chances and they eventually make that perfect shot/pass/play to score.

You're right, actually. I always try to take into account finishing, but for whatever reason it didn't cross my mind this time. Their finishing was definitely off (to put it somewhat lightly), but their effort was not. I guess I could argue that their pressure led to the mistake of the poor clearance, and that it was deserved through their efforts.

In the end, I just have a hard time making excuses I guess. I feel like a draw was a just result, even if the game behind the result was a little bit more complicated than that.

We have one more chance to beat them at their place this season, I hope RSL takes advantage of that.

uh, they come here twice this season...
that's why playing there so early in the year to avoid the heat (well, sorta at least) was a big deal.

our only other trip to Texas is at Houston in their brand spankin new orange stadium

anybody else watch Fabian Castillo last night and think to themselves "if we could get this guy, he could be the next Yura".

Incredible speed, wonderful touch, nose for goal, confident on the ball, and he is struggling to make the right decisions at his current team.

That was Yura to a t before coming to our squad, was it not?

Given our team's recent adventures in officiating - at least Beltran didn't get a red card.

The controversy also means our great friends from San Jose and our resident passive-aggressive troll JasonMa can stay a few more days and amaze us with circular logic.

Always look on the bright side of life.

"stops the ball from getting to george john"...who is facing and moving in the opposite direction that the ball is traveling both before and after the ball grazes beltran.

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH, oh shit, that is just too funny. Borg, you've raised yourself to a whole new level of ********ing idiot. Seriously? Does anyone, ANYBODY, take this guy seriously anymore?

If anything FCD benefitted more from the handball than if it wouldn't have happened. If the ball doesn't hit Tony's arm it's headed toward the end line with George John running in the other direction. When it hits his arm it then goes off his foot and lands right at the feet of Brek Shea for a cross into the box...

i'm not trying to be rude, just brutally honest. you CLEARLY do not have any grasp on this rule. and using simon borgs acceptance as a way to back your opinion isnt going to help either.

i've already detailed why it wasnt a hand ball and why justin braun's hand ball was correctly called. INTENTION is everything when it comes to ruling a hand ball, and not just the intention of the person who "handled" the ball. the first intention is the flight of the ball and the person who put that ball on its intended path. in this case the ball is deflected by schuler, purely incidental, in a direction AWAY from goal 10+ yards from the mouth of the goal. there was no intended action to play the ball into a goal scoring opportunity by either a defender or an attacker.

the second intention is whether or not beltran purposefully intends to either gain an advantage for himself or a teammate or prevent an advantage that would be gained by an opposing player. beltran clearly was not going to gain any advantage, seeing as how he was slipping to ground and was in no position to play the ball. schuler wouldnt have gained an advantage either as he was facing the wrong direction. dallas would not have gained any advantage had beltran not "handled" the ball, it was heading out of bounds and george john was both facing AND moving in the wrong direction. and as was said above, dallas actually GAINED an advantage by beltran deflecting the ball straight to shea who had a free/open cross into the box.

the third and final intention is whether or not beltran intended for his arm to be in an abnormal position to "handle" the ball. this is probably the only truly debatable point, beltran raised his arm ONLY because he was slipping and was trying to balance himself. yes, his intention was to use his arm as a mechanism to balance himself while nearly falling to the ground. he had no idea the ball was coming into him or his arm and he had no opportunity to either move his arm into OR out of the path of the ball consciously.

this plane and simple is NOT a hand ball under any logical measure.

Okay, okay, first, I was half kidding about agreeing with Borg, and second, I think you maybe need to relax a little bit, take a vacation or something. It's just a difference of opinion. I disagree with most of what you've said and certainly don't think "intention" is everything. Players inadvertently kick balls into other players' arms all the time and they regularly get called for it, whether or not the defender intended to handle the ball. In this case, it's a matter of degree--I think both sides can make a case for or against. I'm not saying it was a brilliant call, just that I can see how the ref called it the way he did.

Dollars to doughnuts, if the play had been reversed and the ball had gone off a Dallas defender's arm, you wouldn't be writing paragraph after paragraph on the injustice meted out to Loyd or Ihemelu or whomever.

Just spent the past few minutes watching the replay of the hand ball call on Beltran, and I have to say my conclusion is different than it was when I saw it last night.
I think Beltran handled the ball, he looked to have deliberately but his arm out in a attempt to keep the ball from the attacking Dallas player. The Look on his face when the call was made also confirms that he knew he had just committed a hand ball.
Not sure I like being in Borg's camp, but we call them as we see them.

    Wow....where to begin...

Quoted from FIFA Laws of the Game: "A direct free kick is awarded is also awarded to the opposing team if a player handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area.

So apparently FIFA disagrees with you and intention is everything. I wonder who I should believe?

And just because something gets called wrong a whole bunch of times doesn't make it right.

You seem to know UPinSLC pretty well considering you've only been here for like 6 hours. Actually you might find that we're pretty even-keeled around here when it comes to RSL benefiting from bad calls. You might want to go back and read the Colorado game thread where Espy scored thanks to a no-call on an obvious handball.
