So anyone who fouls someone else is a cheat? We can argue all day but there is only one person's perspective that counts, the refs, and he called a foul on Olave. Period. If you have trouble understanding this it may be that you are blinded from our two championship trophies...
Oh... you mean the 2 championship trophies NO ONE on YOUR team/franchise won or participated in achieiving? Yeah, I'm real jealous. Just like the I am jealous of all the supermodels you've never dated, the jobs you've never held, and the successes you've never actually accomplished... and particularly all the money you don't have. Fouling someone is cheating - that's why they're called fouls. Purposely grabbing someone to initiate contact and dragging them to the ground it particularly dirty fouling/cheating, hence Lenhart is a dirty cheat. He knew he was beat to the ball so he reaches and intentionally grabs Olave's shorts to initiate contact to FOOL the ref. He was playing dirty to FOOL the ref. Why else did he grab his shorts? What part of the game is that?
You mean other than their current head coach who was also the head coach when they won their first MLS Cup in 2003?
I will say this about San Jose fans after reading their forum a little bit, they certainly live in a land of their own creation. "Olave was beat by Lenhart so had to foul him." Umm, Olave caught him and was about to pass him even after being a couple of yards behind him. "Olave initiated the contact." It's pretty clear to anyone that actually watches the video without breathing whatever is in their polluted air that gives them the hallucinations they are having that it was Lenhart that initiated the contact. I'm glad they feel so good about themselves though. It's always nice to have a positive self-image.
Fully realizing that I'm not your mother, we do have a game tonight so it's probably time to let this one drop. It's over and done, no suspensions, no appeals, case closed. There will be a day for RSL to exact revenge, but that day isn't today. However I'll call my shot now: When SJ comes to down on 6/23, revenge will be served up cold. That game won't even be close. Thanks...I appreciate it. *rolls eyes*
Sorry. I can't take credit. I think I read that in the disciplinary committee thread in N&A. Also, did that SJ wang quote himself on that last page? What the hell, man?
oh please. you've had your day in the sun last year when we came to visit. this game more than made up for it.
I told you people before: Get 3 million more TV viewers and the constant hose jobs will end. It's your fault. (Has anyone seen a reappearance of the ref who red-carded Borchers for that terrific play last season?)
I tried to let it go, but I have to say my peace. The ball is played over Lenhart and he never makes contact until after he gets off the ground. Therefore he never "maintains" control of the ball so to me last defender and preventing a goal scoring opportunity is a gray area. I think if Olave wasn't there then Nick would have come out and challenged but he knew Olave would prevent Lenhart from making the play and so he held back. Olave has the size and speed to beat Lenhart (not just to a bloody pulp) to the ball and knock it out for a throw-in. Lenhart attempts to shield Olave from the ball but fails because of Olave's speed to get around him. He then reaches across the front of Olave with his left arm (foul - Lenhart) which will not prevent him from getting to the ball so he uses his body and grabs Olaves shorts (foul - Lenhart) which still is not going to stop him so he uses is weight by going to the ground to pull Olave down (and finally foul - Lenhart). The ref way behind the play and perceives contact by Olave and assumes he caused the foul and is the last man - red card. We now see it was a poor call and should be reversed. As for Sobo's "flop" last year. Sobo embarrassed the CB by cutting the ball to the right between the two defenders which prevented the CB from making a play on the ball so he made an impeding play (not shielding because of Sobo's cut to the right) on Sobo to prevent him from getting to the ball. Sobo puts his hand out to prevent body contact and tangled feet with the player (remember this was at or near sprinting speed). He may have realized the CB impeded his play preventing him getting to the ball and went down or trying to avoid contact and cut between two defenders made him lose his feet, it’s up to the viewer. Either way he was suspended and fined because DisCo saw this as a "flop". But what he did not do was try to pull the CB's shorts off and then drag him to the ground. What he should have done was made contact with the CB and the red would have been deserved and there would not have been a fine or suspension, however, both players may have been injured and missed more games each.
Fixed your post (our second MLS Cup win came in 2003). Also, current team-captain Ramiro Corrales was part of that 2001 team as well. -G
I really don't want to open a can of worms here, but I do have a question. This, I think, was the first RSL match I've missed seeing (live or on TV) in 5 years, so all I've seen are the "highlights" from the MLS website. On this particular play that everyone is "discussing" it appeared to me (at least only on the short blip of the highlight) that Lenhart was offside when the play began. Can anyone who saw the match clear that up for me? Was he on or off? If he was off then the "foul" and the red would never have happened because play would have been stopped. Did he manage to stay on for the run or did he jump offsides?
No problem. The Chicago Fire had just beaten out the San Jose Earthquakes for the MLS Supporters' Shield that season, though the San Jose then defeated them in MLS Cup 2003. The Earthquakes did end up winning the MLS Supporters' Shield two years later, but then lost in the first round of the playoffs. -G
lol, seriously. i mean come on, everyone knows IBIK is at least 100000000 times more ridiculous than UPinSLC. seriously though, i guess we never post anything worth the keystrokes and internet bandwidth we type on. the last 8 years of my BS surfing life have been absolutely worthless to everyone.
