    It is MOST DEFINITELY related! I'm glad you brought it up, I was coming on here to talk about the EXACT same thing...this is exactly what pisses me off about American fans. I understand in this case it's not the US vs another nation, but city against city, but this Ward incident provides a clear picture into the american thought process and how losing at something plays with their psyque.

    When these idiots' teams lose against someone else (Capitals, Mexico, Ghana, Canada) instead of giving credit where it is due, they revert to the only thing that can possibly remotely 'hurt' the victor...... Race.

    Why? I have no clue. But what I can tell you is that evidence of Americans reactions to losses are scattered across the sporting landscape. See ANY loss to Mexico, the losses to Ghana in the last 2 world cups, the women loss to Japan in the world cup, and one that really bothered me was when the US lost to canada in the gold medal game of the winter Olympics a few years back.... Americans did what they do best when they lose, they acted like this country doesn't care about hockey, even though every tv station was hyping it up like crazy, they started making claims about how the US is still better at everything else than Canada.....
    I don't understand why American fans turn to making racist, political, and abusive comments about other nations/teams when they lose, but what I do understand is that because they do this, I will NEVER root for any American team....even though I am an American citizen....
