Bolton may have given up on him but not Sam Allardyce, as I believe he was the Bolton coach durint RVT's stay at Bolton. Not sure if he'll get the call up for the Euro since he's in the Championship, but he's definitely going to make Bento think about it.
Yup, not to mention that he was beaten a few times by players we will seeing a lot of in Euro. Of course, being beaten by Robben and Lahm is not exactly a badge of shame but it reminds me that Robben never once beat Miguel in open play. This is worrisome...
Not worried. Playing for your home club is different than playing for a home country. He always brings it for us. Not suggesting he isn't playing 100%, but perhaps it's the system. Ronaldo is the one I'm worried about. He knows to play like a leader for Portugal, he's much older and wiser -- he better wake up.
Postiga not contributing!!!!!!!!!!! He is Zaragoza only attacking option he has done brilliant for what he has to work with.....wEWe Portugueseexpect too much out of our strikers not every striker we have is gonna be class like Eusebio, Fernando Gomes, Nuno Gomes, Pauleta....Be happy we have 5 very decent strikers in Almeida, Postiga, Vaz Te, Nelo and even Tomas
im sorry i had to do this it brings joy to my heart [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OryJmZUKkeI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OryJmZUKkeI[/ame]
The Portuguese FA is ran by bias idiots that can't get anything right im not saying these players should get called up but back 10 years ago the def should of Ze Pedro Nuno Assis Freachaut Neca Alhandra Those five player 3 of them received no caps at all which is crazy and they still continue to not call up players that desrerve a call up Alas Hugo Viana Vaz Te and etc
Frechaut got a few call ups. Nuno Assis was decent but we had better quality at his position. Same applies to the other guys.
Agree with Vic, we had better options for those positions. Edit - The FA is crap and to blame for lots of things, but not calling up players is the manager's responsibility. Can't really blame the FA for that.
Really impressed with the progress Daniel Carrico has made in recent months. I was skeptical when Sporting transformed him from a Central Defender to a Defensive Midfielder. In the beginning he seemed lost out there, but he's learning and has adapted well in my opinion. I like the physical side of his game, and I think it's something our National Team lacks. He's been a monster for Sporting lately. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the National team in the near future. I doubt he'll be on the Euro 2012 roster, but he should be looked at for World Cup 2014 Qualifying. He's 23 and can play multiple positions. He still has to work on his passing and shooting though. Andre Martins is also a player that deserves mention after yesterday's performance....terrific prospect
We need a bit of youth and experience, like Spain has over the years. Spain has done a fantastic job in development but also getting these kids to play the system. Is Bento the right coach though? He's done a good job but I'm not sold.
I don't think he was that bad against Bayern. He did tire at the end, and seemed to start lunging a lot at the end of both games, and it cost him against Bayern. Maybe something to be careful with, but I thought for the most part he did quite ok in that game and kept Robben relatively quiet.
call em when Vaz-te scores consistently in a 1st division squad. As of now, he's scoring goals against 2nd tier scrubs. Not deserving of a call-up.
dude are you listening to your self West Ham are getting promoted and Vaz Te is like 26 and has been around forever I love being Portuguese but i will not be bias Birmingham City a SHIT 2nd tier English side outplayed Braga who up until now was fighting for The Liga Sagres Title... Not only does he deserve a call up he DESEVRES IT. Since when was playing on a team with players like Nolan, Ulunga, Green, Lansbury, Collison, Cole not worthy its not like he has not scored he has 20 goals in a very good team fighting for promtion!!! How many does Almeida and Nelson Oliveira have.......My point exactly and im not bashing you friend but he so deseves a call up
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Leicester-vs-West-Ham-Preview-Vaz-Te-over-the-moon-article894254.html Nine goals in as many games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and while on players who deserve call up I am a big fan of Jose Fonte( Was going to move to Arsenal or Newcastle but regected and stayed at Southampton and is current Captain) but he wont get a call up even thought he deserves it..... and regarding my faith in PB i has it at 3 out of 10
Actually, Nelson Oliveira has not had a long time has he ? As far as Vaz Te is concerned, I have to agree with Portugal#1, he is doing well but against lower caliber competition. Now had be been doing well in the first division, then I would agree with you. I would love to see Almeda and Postiga replaced but Vaz Te has not earned that yet.
I agree with those saying RVT doing well at a lower league isn't enough. The same applies to M.Fernandes, though. I don't mind him on the bench, but not as a starter until he shows he can deliver regularly at a better team.
You're using one example and basing it as your entire argument. Yea, Braga struggled against Birmingham? And? Small sample size to justify an argument. Fact is if he does it next year in the premier league then he is more than welcome to be included in the 2014 cycle of games....too late for him now.
Okay, so here's the nut of the Vaz Te argument as far as I'm concerned: You can either go with the same fellas who have never consistently performed well for Portugal (much less for their top tier clubs) such as Postiga and Almeida; guys who you KNOW aren't going to suddenly be the type of player they have never been (i.e. impactful in a tournament setting as the lone striker from match-to-match). or You can go with a guy who plays in the English Championship (pretty damn solid for a second tier), and is playing fantastic, scoring goals left, right and center. This is also an individual whose talent hasn't been the question, rather it has been his impact that has raised questions. Hence, if he's making an impact AND has the talent then what else does he need to prove? He can't will West Ham into the EPL for the final weeks of this season, so all you can do is go off of what he's doing against lesser opponents. I don't dislike Postiga or Almeida (though I greatly prefer Postiga as the starter for the same reasons any of us would), but isn't it worth taking a shot on a guy at a position of weakness who is playing as well as he ever has and doing exactly what an effective player at his position is supposed to do? If you don't think Vaz Te shouldn't get a call-up based on the idea that he will be out of his depth playing against Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, etc. at Euro 2012 (which seems to be the only real argument against him), you're essentially saying you want Portugal to go with a known quantity that is inadequate for the purpose of winning a tournament in favor of an unknown quantity which could be the difference maker Portugal needs. I'm not saying Vaz Te is the answer. But it's obvious that Postiga and Almeida aren't the answer, so why not give a guy with potential a chance? Shoot, all I'm asking for is a call-up. Let him train and play in the friendlies; see what happens. For that matter, the idea applies to Oliveira (though his case is different because he's hardly playing or scoring, unlike Vaz Te) or any of the younger guys with potential. I'd be pleased with Postiga and one of these unknowns, but I'm fairly certain Almeida has proven his worth (or lack thereof) by now.
