Great day at the Stadium! Hiroki Kuroda really showed his stuff, pitching 5-hit shutout ball. He left in the 9th after a leadoff single and David Robertson closed the game. Kuroda struck out 6 and walked 2. Nick Swisher belted a 3-run double in the 1st, Rodriguez and Granderson had solo homers. It was #630 for A-Rod, tying him with Ken Griffey, Jr. for 5th on the all-time HR list. Alex had 3 hits on the day.

Yankee hitting overcame a shaky Ivan Nova start to pound the Angels, 11-5. A 3-run homer by Derek Jeter opened up a 7-run lead in the 4th. Raul Ibanez added a tape-measure 2-run blast that almost hit the upper deck in the 8th. David Robertson came up big, getting out of a 7th inning bases-loaded jam caused by Rafael Soriano.

    Box Score - Yankees 11, Angels 5

Trivia Time: Ivan Nova has won 14 straight, tying him with Whitey Ford and Steve Sundra for the 2rd-longest streak in Yankees history.

Hiroki Kuroda was knocked out in the 5th, giving up 6 runs and 10 hits -- including 2 home runs by Justin Morneau. What a disgrace. Robinson Cano got his 1st homer of the season, Jeter whacked #4 in the 9th. Since when did Derek turn into Babe Ruth?

Nick Blackburn has been pulled as tonight's starter for the Twins because of shoulder stiffness.

I've got a prediction. Hughesy won't finish the season in the starting rotation. Something has gone wrong with him. His fastball is limping to the plate.

He didn't have the Joba rules but he was brought along slowly so can't blame that we rode him too hard. He'll be gone in a few weeks. God bless Andy for coming back.

Don't be too quick on that prediction. Pineda made it all of 15 pitches before he had to be shut down again. That, combined with the fact that HALF the rotation has been shaky so far makes me think that there is plenty of time for Hughes to rebound. When Andy comes back, I think it will be a battle between Hughes and Garcia. Frankly, I'm more worried about Sabathia at this point.
