Portugal's Polícia Judiciária investigating corruption allegations surrounding this season's Taça quarter-final between Sporting & Marítimo. Today's DN alleged linesman José Cardinal received €2000 in his bank account the night before the game. He withdrew for personal reasons. According to DN, Sporting were tipped off anonymously & immediately alerted the FPF, who in turn handed the case over to the police. Interesting.
That linesman cost Sporting's last Liga cup final against Benfica and several other matches apparently. Not saying that I support any game official pay-offs but it sounds like someone figure it was better to ask him to stay home than getting another ghost call in the game
Maybe no one says anything because information about this has been sparse and inconclusive. Anyhow, if the worst scenario is confirmed (although I'll ask for the expulsion of PPC and accomplices from the club) we'll still be on the moral higher ground... Better, we'll be even more on the moral higher ground.
I've been away for a while, can someone explain whats going on here? Why would Sporting contact the fpf if they bribed the linesman?
From what I read ( yesterday) the police suspects a frame-up of the linesman known by the name Jose Cardinal, so that he would be disqualified from the Maritimo-Sporting game, which eventually occurred, Cardinal wasn't in the game.
MAKE out it was Maritimo that paid the linesman, if Maritimo had knocked sporting out of the cup, thats why sporting paid the money into a Funchal bank, looks like some one found out about it and sporting are now coming out with it to try and cover their backs before that person could do it 1st.
nice theory , but it was reported by Sporting a.s.a. they found out, and it was reported before the game
Wrong. PPC is being accused of framing linesman Cardinal to get him out before the game. Supposedly he anonymously transfered money into Cardinal's account and then called the police to warn them about some suspicious pre-game transfer. FYI, Cardinal is widely regarded by fans as one of the dirtiest refs in the country. Remember the league cup final against Benfica, for example? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s6fjGtDFdg"]Penálti inventado pelo Benfica na Final da Taça da Liga - YouTube[/ame] Remember our first-round tie against Olhanense with some awful refereeing, including José Cardinal mistakes like annulling a clean winning goal by Postiga? Remember that we protested the good score the league gave to the referees for that game, and that they would end up lowering it to the (if I'm not mistaken) lowest score a referee ever had in Portugal?
any way sporting needs to be punished sporting kicked out off the final and semi final played again between Nacional and Maritimo
Not going to happen. Bottom line the suspected corruption didn't affect the outcome of the game. If what is being investigated is correct, the crime is attempting to frame someone of wrong doing. Cardinal was removed from the game.
I don't get the big deal, everything that happened was before the game, ie it doesn't effect the outcome of the match. At all. Whats amazing to me is that Cardinal still has a ********ing job somehow.
I guess it wasn't that difficult to deposit money in his account . His account number must be as widely known as some popular putas
Corruption? OMGZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!! This can't be true.....Only Porto is corrupt, everyone else is at home watching power rangers and saved by the bell.
If it is confirmed that PPC framed Cardinal that shows how we don't control shit. He've to actually frame a linesman to get him out of the game! Others call the head of the referees and ask who's available and chose from the list...
Just look at our whole season....fighting to stay in 4th place we've been immensely unlucky, part of that being just bad play while a majority is us getting screwed. There's no evidence to suggest we've fxed anythin. The Liga has alrrady raped us of so many points. Thats not match fixing. At least PPC took one for the tram.
