Yeah, I mean how come they never tell us when a celebrity is born, only when they die? Where are the stories like "Prize winning author born today"?

But seriously, Dick Clark seemed to be one of the good guys. The fact that the closest thing we have to replace him is Ryan Seacrest shows how irreplaceable he was.

    RIP

I thought he was already dead.

You know, God attempted to make up for taking Ross From St Paul by killing Andrew Brietbart and Thomas Kinkade. He's going to have to do a lot better than Dick Clark to make up for Chico.

    I nominate Joe Arpaio.

Dick died five years ago, but they forgot to tell him. And I guess now that he's finally figured it out, they'll have to cancel the New Year. :D

    But seriously, RIP Dick Clark.

And I still can't get over Chico. I really was down over it. I was telling my wife, how we talk about RL friends vs internet friends, as if the former mean more, but the truth is, friends are friends. I mean, I never met him personally, but we argued here all the time, we kept up in FB, and I really do feel like I lost a friend.

    Phew.

I read the thread title, and for a minute, I thought you were suggesting that that was NOT Dick's natural hair color. Them would be fightin' words.

How can you even compare Joe to Chico. I know Chico only from BS and the few news stories of late, but he seems about 100 times the man that Joe is. I'd rather it be all the Reps in public office in Arizona. That might even it out.

Indeed. I didn't realize just how extraordinary he was until he died. I mean, I knew he was a great guy and I really liked him but I had no idea how highly regarded he was.

I haven't cried yet today so that's progress.

    Yes, exactly.

For every good guy God takes, he has to take some bad guys. Joe Arpaio hates Hispanic immigrants and is in general a horrid human being. So, I nominate him for our Chico consolation prize.

Did you honestly think I was comparing Chico to Joe Arpaio? Have you actually read anything I (or anyone else) have written about Chico lately?

all this kincaid stuff looked strangely familiar... and it dawned on me that it's not even his own style, he stole it from the martine series of storybooks.

i read plenty of these with my little princess, and we even have a jigsaw puzzle that is the perfect illustration of what i mean but this:

should give you a good idea. three remarks: first, marcel marlier's technical quality is significantly higher than kincaid's. second, the pictures are aimed at 6 to 8 year old french girls, not adults who put them up in their living rooms. last, martine has been parodied even more than kincaid, and in much more doubtful taste.

I don't think it works like that. If it did, people like Arpaio wouldn't ever have been in a position to do what he's done, both as the law in Maricopa County and as an international narc.

Just found out Arpaio's people came here from Italy. Always wondered where the name originated.
