Most Akron fans use zipsnation, but I've noticed we are starting to build a presence here so I figured we could have our own thread besides using the MAC thread like last year. Akron beat Pitt today 2-1 to open up the Spring season. The Zips dominated possession and kept Pitt from having any serious opportunities at goal. The lone goal from Pitt came off a bad pass in the back. Great game Zips!!
Should be a good season for the Zips. 8 returning starters including U20s Wil Trapp. Lets just hope that coach Porter can put the U23 team behind him. IMO, his history with the Zips speaks to his coaching abilities. Akron Spring Preview: Akron looks to maintain control in MAC
I believe he has. He dodged a question about the US23's after Saturday's victory [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxyN-daz_vQ"]Caleb Porter - Post Game (4/7/12) - YouTube[/ame]
how about another round with your buddies from Santa Barbara? Our game against Akron was one of the best I've seen in years. Hoping we make a trip out to northeast Ohio soon. How does the team look offensively after losing Mattocks?
Thinking back to the 2010 College Cup - great weekend. I was one of the "Gauchos for Akron." We pretty much adopted the Zips as our home team after they took out Cal. I really liked how well the fans traveled too. You guys are always welcome in SB
Replacing Mattocks with Alfred Koroma, ranked #3 by TDS for the 2012 senior class. We actually have the #1 incoming class overall. Koroma, Andrew Souders, Fernando Pena, Dillon Serna, Omari Morris, and Matt Foldsey, as well as Robbie Derschang transferring from SMU.
The key to the Zips' success this year will be replacing Mattocks' scoring output. Hopefully Koroma will play as advertised and the wingers will pick up some of the scoring. That ,IMO, was what was lacking last season. I am really looking forward to the fall as I think Akron will really be a force this season.
Mattocks was able to create opportunities but got called offsides a lot hurting momentum. The squad this year is going to be a lot better than last year.
Love the way Akron lines up strong opponents, although it's kind of a shame there won't be a repeat of last year's match-ups with western schools. I would've expected Akron to be eager to redeem itself. The ACC also remains conspicuous by its absence. Guess their non-conf schedules were too crowded with Wofford and Winthrop and the like.
The Akron / Creighton Game on Friday August 31st in Omaha, will be the FOX SOCCER College Game Of The Week...
It is great, but they pretty much have to to offset the conference games like FAU, Hartwick and Western Michigan. You forgot Liberty and Radford! Damn, that sucks. That game would have been an event.
A little harsh there on Liberty considering they beat an ACC team last year and have given some good performances against them in recent years. Not to mention they outplayed a strong ODU team in the first round of the tournament only to lose in PK's. In full disclosure I played at Liberty so I am biased but they have done very well given the demographic they recruit and given the number of players that have moved on to the prfessional ranks from there. They are by no means a top tier program but give them a little credit for the success they have garnered.
The spring game against Xavier will also be a charity event for Down Syndrome http://news.cincinnati.com/article/...90110/Daughter-inpsires-XU-soccer-exhibition? I wish I could make it to this game
There are enough cream puffs in the MAC, he has to play a strong out of conference in order to boost their RPI.
