Man. We may have had a small overlap in Bamberg. I worked there from early '94 to late '97. But I was gone for the second half of '96 and more than half of '97 on military duty.

Wouldn't a relegation playoff between Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Köln just fucking rock?! :D

Well I clearly see the ironi and yes that will be a fun game, however I would rather see another team go down and both in the BuLi 1.

Before the season, did anyone see Alemannia Aachen at the bottom of the table at this point in the season?

    I didn't.

Maybe they should have kept the old stadium........... :(

They definitely should have - right now it's sort of in question if the club will even still exist in a few years time. They are now pretty much 1860 without Arab money.

The costs for the thing are mind blowing - 6 million per year (!) for a 2nd Bundesliga club? They certainly planned with going up soon, and thought this would pay for itself then. Good planning there guys.

Unfortunately I do think it is going to be a Rhein-Derby in the play-off, though in a perfect world I'd have had Fortuna take on HSV with Köln staying up.

Yep, poor Aachen. A case of biting off far more than they were able to chew.

I cannot throw stones at Aachen for doing this. I'm a BVB fan. We got where we were five years ago by planning as if the CL money would never stop coming in.

That's not to defend Aachen. They were really stupid.

I just hope they aren't gone for good.

Wow, I just made the connection that I saw Fürth play twice in their inaugural 2. Bundesliga season.
First against the Stuttgarter Kickers in September.
    http://fussballdaten.de/zweiteliga/1998/7/fuerth-stkickers/
and then against Freiburg in April.
    http://fussballdaten.de/zweiteliga/1998/27/fuerth-freiburg/

Looking at the boxscores, it is cool to see names like Max Eberl, Tomislav Maric and Markus Beierle in the first game or Torben Hoffmann and a couple of -villis in the second.

    from the Kickers game.

    AWESOME!!!

I'd just returned to the area from a year and a half military call-up.

Wound up moving to Vilseck from Erlangen during that season.

Saw most of my football in Munich and Dortmund that season.

Oh yes. :p I can already see many satisfied policemen faces. :))

In order to enjoy this derby, both rivals have to win their last season game, though.

Btw: Look at crazy Mike (wearing a Fortuna scarf, btw.)! :D Not even Kloppo can top him. :))

Btw: There's rumours about him moving to Köln (hard to imagine when knowing that he's a real Düsseldorfer) or Leverkusen.

Really? Talk to me when he's in "Bild" nationally half as much as Kloppo is!

I'm just happy Scheisse doesn't see the error of their ways and go to get him.

I think he's actually the only "right" coach for them and they're too stupid to go get him.

    So the decisions are made:
Fürth and Frankfurt are directly promoted, Düsseldorf reaches the play-off match vs. Berlin. The winner over 2 legs will qualify for the BL as well.

Aachen ( :( ) and Rostock ( :( ) are directly relegated. Karlsruhe plays vs. Regensburg (3rd in 3. Liga) in the play-downs.

Losing Aachen and Rostock is certainly a loss for the league. Ok, despite Rostock's fans.

Well 2nd BuLi might have lost Rostock and Aachen, but Köln, Kaiserslautern and Maybe Hertha isn't nad exchanges.

Lets just hope Karlsruhe will make it, not that I hate Regensburg which I prefer compared to Sandhausen and Aalen but lets not get 3 really small teams up this season.

Sorry, I have to pull for Hertha on this one. Fortuna was just a bunch of divers this season. If they pull that crap in today's game it won't work.
