Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has been named as the new player-manager of Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

Anelka, 33, left the Blues in December to join his present employers on a two-year deal. He has started four games this season, scoring twice, and will now take his first steps into management.

He said on Twitter: "It's official I just become (sic) the new player-manager of Shanghai Shenhua."

Anelka also enjoyed playing spells at Arsenal, Bolton and Liverpool, among others.

This is crazy. How can healthy athletes drop in middle of the game like this? I've heard of players with unknown heart conditions, asthma or other lung conditions dropping but this is crazy. Are they partying the night before taking unhealthy supplements, what is going on???

wiki sudden cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac death. they have a page for it.

if you want a more definitive answer go to idea of it go to pubmed.

my thoughts i think some people are just born with defective hearts. You just can't go from healthy to unhealthy. There is always a reason. Probably deals with arrhythmia. Only person qualified enough to understand the heart is a cardiologist. no one else. not even the team physician. The heart is a very very complicated organ. From what i know... a lot of American teams use DO's instead of MD's. Plus Team doctors are underpaid. i doubt many MD's go into sport medicine. Also, i remember reading about malpractice. I wonder what policy the team physicians have.

Why would you think that sports medicine is unpopular? Orthopedics is a popular specialty. They get paid a ton and require different skill sets than other doctors. Generalists I imagine enjoy the lifestyle and connection to sport. Many team doctors rake in the dough as they have prestige and advertisement to separate from the crowd. Team doctors aren't just sitting around 24/7....

Sports medicine however is completely different from heart failure. Many could be avoided with proper heart screening but what athlete wants to risk their career cut short if they get screened positive? Many players probably have conditions and go on to lead long careers like Tedy bruschi who even came back from stroke to play American football

The root causes are probably many. The increasing number of footballers playing more rigorous schedules at a higher level of play for certain. The game has gotten faster too demanding more fitness and in turn more of the heart.

Di Natale is taking guardianship of Morosini's disabled sister and the club is helping to fund ongoing care.

MADRID (AFP) - Barcelona have sealed a deal which would see talented young Brazilian striker Neymar join the Spanish club in 2014, Cadena SER radio reported.

The report claimed the Catalan giants have already paid 14.5 million euros ($19 million) of the total 58-million-euro transfer fee to the 20-year-old's Brazilian club Santos.

"According to several reliable sources Barca have already paid a quarter of the 58 million euros to Santos to guarantee the transfer of the player," Cadena SER claimed, adding that the date for his transfer was after the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

The report added that the decision to seal the deal was taken by the player and his father against the wishes of his agent Wagner Ribeiro.

Neymar is considered the future star of Brazilian football and has been targeted by several European clubs, including Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid.http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world/13220175/barca-seal-neymar-move-for-2014/

Lol carroll. Stop complaining about your minutes when you sucked so hard and have plenty of starts and minutes to have done more than the squat you have done.

I see plenty of starts on ESPN man.
