Spejic's post got me wondering.... What do movies do you like, just like, perhaps inexplicably, and know that you'll see several more times in your life? Not necessarily your Top 10 Movies, or movies that you can list when you're trying to make a point. But you know, the movies you'll happily play when you're just looking to kill and hour or two.... My tried and true: A League of their Own Music and Lyrics About a Boy (wow, two Hugh Grant Movies... I think I need to bathe) Fried Green Tomatoes Groundhog Day Renaissance Man Love, Actually (Oh god, not a third one....) Die Hard Princess Bride The Full Monty
I guess I have a responsibility to post my own list. Jesus Christ Superstar Down Periscope Trading Places Groundhog Day Constantine And, yes, Legally Blonde. The first two far more than the others.
Just a couple off the top of my head. The man who would be King Heaven can Wait Butch Cassidy and TSK. ("Just how fast are you Kid?") Enchanted April Stalag 17 Hmm I'd have to sit down with pen and paper and turn the memory part of the brain.
The Great Escape Road Warrior Stand By Me The Warriors Young Guns Breaking Away Bloodsport Major League Miracle Either of the PRefontaine movies Lebowski
When I was younger I use to watch the same movies over and over again but now I usually never watch a movie if I have already seen it. I remember when I got my first DVD player in 1999 and I only had three DVDs and I would watch them over and over again. Now, my DVDs collect dust and I have yet to own a Blu Ray despite having a player for a couple of years. But, I cant really watch a movie I have already seen unless it has been years since I have seen it and dont really remember it. I think Dark Knight is the newest movie I have and it is only because it was a Christmas present. It's weird because good movies I dont really re-watch but light movies like comedies are the things that I stop and watch when they are on TV. Shawshank Redemption - probably the only movie I could watch back-to-back days if it were on. But, it is also my favorite movie of all-time. Definitely, Maybe - the rom-com with Ryan Reynolds a few years back. Probably the only rom-com that I have actually ever liked because it was unique and the three women in it are stunning. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, I like Ryan Reynolds. He might play the same character over and over again but he does it well. Fried Green Tomatoes - very underrated movie Road Trip - one of my all-time favorite comedies American Pie Boondock Saints Boiler Room - not sure why but I have seen this movie like 20 times Office Space Major League I really like the mention of A League of Their Own. I did watch that for the first time in years awhile back.
Casablanca is my go-to curl-up movie. It's just very easy to watch, and I love the dialogue and humour. As It Is In Heaven is the other one. Just a great feel-good film.
This is an interesting list. Raiders of the lost Ark Where Eagles dare Kelly's Heroes Die Hard Total Recall Pretty much any Spaghetti western The most recent inclusion to this list would be Inglorious Basterds.
Some movies that I'll stick with whenever I happen to run across them, for reasons I haven't bothered to analyze (much), in no particular order: Open Range Mr. Wonderful Beautiful Girls Tombstone Things We Lost in the Fire 1941 Prince of Persia (Why? This one really baffles me (and my wife)) Stranger Than Fiction French Kiss A bunch of WW II movies Westerns, war and rom coms. If I were to analyze it, I might start with the idea that these are like the movies I watched with my folks on weekend afternoons.
I'd include those two in my list as well. The thing with these movies is, I have seen them enough that I can pretty much start watching them at any point of the story without too much trouble.
Of course there are plenty, but The Third Man is one I come back to all the time. It succeeds on all facets and is a total joy to watch.
For whatever reason only one film popped into my head and that is Beautiful Girls. I love that movie and can watch it on a loop.
Movies I can & will watch again and again: (in alphabetical order) --Aliens (1986) --Arabian Nights (1974) --Dr. Strangelove (1964) --Independence Day (1996) --King Kong (1933) --Lawrence of Arabia (1962) --Predator (1987) --The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas (1957) --The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) --The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) --The NeverEnding Story (1984) --The New One-Armed Swordsman (1971) --The Thing from Another World (1951) And any number of James Bond films.
Yeah, I noticed almost immediately after the time allowed to edit a post elapsed that I had left off The Apartment and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Oh and any of the early Funès Gendarmes movies. I'd say up until "Le Gendarme en balade." Partly youth sentiment, but they still work, somehow. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvgZUVRh4Bo"]Musique Les Gendarmes de Saint-Tropez - YouTube[/ame] And throw in "La folie des grandeurs" and "La Grande Vadrouille" as well.
Movies I can/will watch again? Titanic Casablanca Pirates of the Caribbean The Fellowship of the Ring Star Wars-A new Hope The Boys from County Clare Independence Day Clerks The Last Samurai Seven Samurai
Movies that when they happen to be on cable, I'm pretty much stuck watching them to the end... Rounders The Devil Wears Prada (??) The Breakfast Club Sixteen Candles Legally Blonde Charlie Wilson's War Office Space War of The Worlds 28 Days Later Jackie Brown Clue Pulp Fiction Best in Show And this is really embarrassing....Half Baked
