South station has terrible highway access (very low capacity). Assembly square has both good T access and good highway access. If the IKEA thing fails, there's some serious potential in that location.
Even better let's build the stadium on top of IKEA. Thier buildings are ugly anyway. Ikea Plans to Build an Entire Neighborhood
Better yet! Why doesn't IKEA just buy the Revs and start a Sporting brand, like the Scarlet Bovines! And build their stadiums at the center of their Store/Malls. So instead of exiting the stadium into the Pats Pro Shop like at the Man Mall..we can exit into Kitchen/Bath/Housewares!!
Well, I meant one of the hot button "theoretical" locations discussed on this board, like Revere. T access yes, highway access ...different story for drivers. Since I have my doubts the Revs will build in the city proper, places like Somerville, Revere etc would be a more realistic discussion. Going on that hunch (I admit it's nothing more than that), I believe a Revs' SSS built in Revere would fit your "NJ" argument perfectly given the distances from Boston proper and the south shore/metrowest etc driving (or even by train) fans would have to travel. I hashed out the time table argument awhile back that it would take well over an hour to get up there from many places (including the urban core) by train.
Just got through listening the the Callie Crossley show on WGBH Radio and one of her guests was Seth Daniel, Senior Editor of the Revere Journal. He spoke of big changes around the corner for the Revere Beach area, such as a hotel and a Leonard Zakim mini replica foot bridge -from the train to the beach- which he says is going to happen. He also mentioned Wonderland and some reuse ideas for it; including luxury apartments, a shopping center, a Wal-Mart, and lastly he said that it is also "a potential site for a stadium for the Revolution soccer team". WOW.
Seth's a good guy, but the entire Journal simply serves as the mouthpiece of the Old Boy's Network. It's no secret that the Mayor wants the Revs, so Seth's comments are far from surprising.
Revs rebranded as one of these: - Boston/New England Furnitures - Boston/New England DIY - Boston/New England Missing Parts
Well, if Ikea did get involved, the stadium probably wouldn't take too long to build. Just takes a few minutes to put together one of their tables or dressers, so I'm sure putting together one of their stadiums would only take a few weeks. Plus, another benefit of an Ikea ownership and stadium...two words...Swedish meatballs.
So I know it goes against the entire "goal" the FO has.. Of getting a Revolution SSS in the "urban core." But what if there is still feasibility outside of the metro area, as well as having easy access? Try Westwood. At the site of the Route 128 T/Amtrak station, plans to develop a mixed-use commercial, housing, office sort of complex have stalled for years since its announcement a few years back. Here's a simple overview of what it was supposed to be, and what has been currently made of the site. Its main developers experienced financial woes, and the project just recently acquired new developers. While it might not ever achieve the glory or size it had once hoped to attain, potentially slotting in a SSS adjacent to the station could be a good idea. The proximity of the site to the Providence/Stoughton commuter rail line (the most travelled one), as well as Route 128 and 95/93, would make it more than viable. Also the main plot of land could easily fit a stadium (more specifically Liverstrong Park), as I demonstrated in the below image. Having driven by the area frequently, looking at the vast landscape at the train station site is quite depressing. Maybe throwing in a SSS here could reinvigorate the development project, as well as proving to be a viable spot still outside of the Boston urban area.
Seeing as the T itself is on its way to truly becoming a massive failure, this is true. I personally am all for a stadium a lot closer to the city.. As a college student the idea of walking, or using minimal forms of public transport, is ideal to me. But it seems there might have to be some compromise in stadium location, if places like Revere and Somerville don't pan out for some reason. We can only hope
I agree about compromise but I doubt you draw more than 10-15% more than foxboro. To boston people, thats probably too much travel. Stay on the T and the revs should be ok, deviate too far and the advantage begins to diminish.
What you are saying is true, but there is no way this will ever happen for one simple reason....Kraft doesnt own this land. And he does own land just about 10 miles down the road from this site. If there is no urban stadium, look for the SSS to be built across route 1 from Gillette in Foxboro within the confines of the new casino.
Even that's not going to happen. This organization has said over and over, they're not building a stadium unless its in the urban core. Otherwise, we're staying at Gillette.
All depends on the structure of the deal. Wynn Casinos may end up bearing a good proportion of the cost (infrastructure, parking) and may end up renting the stadium or being co-owners.
But the proposal for a casino in Foxboro is practically DOA. It's not going to get local support, and even if it does, it has to compete with other (better) casino proposals in its region.
I have no inside information on this but the funeral is premature. The patient is not even in the ICU. What sites do you think have better proposals ? My understanding is the Palmer site has been withdrawn from contention. As for the Foxboro site...did you see the Globe today ? http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...tion-casino/DPvJjtx6U6UQTIGqV1RUtI/story.html Do not discount or underestimate the lobbying/marketing strength of Kraft/Wynn. While I beleive Kraft soccer would prefer an urban site, the clock is ticking here. If a workable urban site does not emerge soon and the Foxboro casino project gets approved, look for the SSS to be part of it. Despite the previous false starts, I think Kraft soccer is commtted to an SSS.
Nope, KSG has said that they would play in Gillette long term (20-30 years) rather than build an SSS in Foxborough. They've said SSS in the Urban core, or no SSS at all. If they can't get a deal done in the city, we'll be going to Gillette for games for the next few decades or until KSG sells the team.
