This! so cal talent takes too loong to develop and we can't retain their rights like they can in other countries. What do we offer them to stay. A contract of course but whats the point if they will take up a roster spot and we won't play them. i'm for letting them develop in a system that's proven, witht he condition that we pay for their development and if the club thats developing wants them they have to pay us for said player. If not the contract states that they will come back to the U-18 squad (really it should be U-16 squad but thats light years away) and should be ready to slot in as a sub on the senior team at least. That santos laguna academy sounds good. Santos are a good squad from their youth ranks up. It used to be Atlas, Chivas de Guad and Pumas that were known exclusively for youth systems but UNAL Tigres and Santos are very much up and coming

I really hope Bollanos and Romero don't turn out to be reserve all stars the way Estupinan did.

Nice to see Gavin involved in goals!

gavin is good. he's just a little light. He's too injury prone. That inconsistency can hurt him. He's gifted though and calm on the ball

Chivas USA traded DF Junior Lopes to the galaxy for Paulo Cardozo.

I think its a bad move because we are stacked at MF, why help those **********, unless if Cardozo will make less then Lopes. I'd rather have Chad Barret or 2013 1st round draft pick.

The window closing is five days away and this is all we have up our sleave.....another Galaxy trade. Is Paolo Cardozo the Urugayo? Regardless. March is right . If it's one place we don't need any more help it's the midfield....unless we were to bring in a true number 10 like midfileder which I know won't happen. Where are the forwards?

Cardozo has skills, but given Fraser's indifference towards attacking soccer, he might be an eternal benchwarmer. In hope not, he can be the #10 we need.
I hope Gavin is paying attention, because he might be next. We have way too many mids.

I'm not sure Cardozo is even close to been #10. The guy made 18 appearances with the galaxy last season, 0 goals.

    http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ml...avid-junior-lopes-chivas-usa-trade-midfielder
“He’s a very interesting player that we saw in last year’s combine,” Chivas USA general manager Jose Domene told MLSsoccer.com in a phone interview on Tuesday. "We see him in league games and he gives us versatility in the attacking midfield position."

"The Galaxy acquired the Uruguayan-born Cardozo via last year's MLS SuperDraft on loan from Argentine second-division club Quilmes. The 5-foot-5 attacker, who has silky ball skills, isn't a strong enough defensive player to make an impact in Arena's system."

"Cardozo, 22, has played in two games this season, starting for Landon Donovan in the 3-1 loss to New England 10 days ago, after making 23 appearances with 11 starts in MLS, playoff, Champions League and U.S. Open Cup action last year. He also played in four friendlies and nine MLS Reserve League games and made six starts in eight preseason appearances this year, scoring two goals."

Lopes gave us defensive depth, and was a presence on the field. Yeah, he made mistakes, but the guy needed more time to adapt to MLS. This team needs attacking FWs not attacking MFs. Lets hope during the derby this doesn't come to haunt us. A weak defensive galaxy is good for Chivas USA.

More on Cardozo - Lopes trade from Fraser
    http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/soccer/post/_/id/15743/chivas-cardozo-offers-new-dynamic

Fraser said Cardozo's “characteristics” remind him of diminutive (just 5-4) Galaxy legendMauricio Cienfuegos, a Salvadoran central midfielder so pivotal in the franchise's early success. Fraser was a center back (and assistant coach Greg Vanney played at left back) for those L.A. teams.

“I think to be a successful player of that size, you certainly have to be really quick in the mind and technically very good,” the coach said. “I see Paolo has some of those characteristics.”

    On Lopes
Said Domene: “Right now we have Heath [Pearce], Rauwshan [McKenzie], [John Alexander] Valencia, Scott Gordon [available at center back] -- and all can play. With David, we had five center backs. What we really wanted to do is get a different type player. A pure attacking midfielder. [Cardozo is] different, a left-footed player. He takes on players. He's a different type of player.”

So Fraser is looking at Cardozo as a central midfielder.
"X-rays indicate midfielder Peter Vagenas has fractured ribs, suffered in the reserve win over L.A. No timeline yet on his return."

yeah why we're hooking up the galaxy while they're down isnt something we should be looking at doing. that being said, i think lopes makes them worse. he'll give them flashback of abel xavier (playing out of position, gambling like none other, getting yellow cards like its part of his job).

as for cardozo, fraser's gonna have a hard time figuring out his substitution patterns. and since we have a grip of midfielders (all capable of starting), i get the feeling that there's gonna be a lot of different looks out there, meaning very little chemistry being developed by a 11 players.

Over the years it's become obvious that there is no rivalry between the clubs. It's a become mutually beneficial partnership. The rivalry only exists between the fans...

I don't see a problem in letting Lopes go. As you said, he was more of a liability. Don't think Arena can coach the clumsy out of him. See Andy Boyens. LMAO, saw some highlights of Boyens and Lopes paired up from 2011 while looking for Cardozo highlights.

I don't know much about Cardozo. Watched a few highlights from 2011, hard to tell. His stats are abysmal for a player labeled as an attacking midfielder. Seems like expendable youth. Estupinan 2.0 anyone?

Apparently Gerson Mayen never made the Montreal Impact and was waived before the season started.
    http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/03/mallace-james-and-garcia-under-contract
Braun has made 6 appearances with 0 goals this season.
Chivas USA traded both Mayen & Braun for Riley who has been a huge upgrade at RB for the team.

Maaaaaaan, we gotta forget about Mayen and Chucky. Preki, Vasquez, Fraser, Marsch did.

Talented yes, but not enough to crack the starting 11 for a humble Chivas USA and expansion Montreal team. Wish them luck
