With the season of 2011/2012 winding down, and with the new season of MLS already in swing and with vital WCQ's on the way...let's look at who are going to be the New Faces for the 2012/2013 season.

What i believe was Klinsmann's 23 players for the 2011/2012 season:

    GK
    Howard, Hamid, Rimando
    DEF
Cherundolo, Chandler, Johnson, Spector, Bocanegra, Goodson, Parkhurst, Cameron
    MID
Edu, Jones, Bradley, Torres, Donovan, Kljestan, Shea, Williams
    FW
    Dempsey, Altidore, Buddle, Agudelo

Not in Klinsi's 23 but received calls in 2011/2012: G=Guzan, Johnson, DF=Parke, Onyewu (serious injury...dropped from 23 as result), Pearce, Loyd, De La Garza, Orozco, Castillo, Ream, MF=Rogers, Beckerman, Pontius, Zusi, Feilhaber, Beasley, Larentowicz, Clark, Evans, Holden (injury, never available), FW=Bunbury, Sapong, Wondolowski, Boyd

Explaining that 23: Boyd is the only field player missing from the Italy roster because i believe is call was more experimental than as a regular member of the 23. Guzan is also missing because he has yet to make a game-day roster for Klinsi whereas Hamid was Klinsmann's first choice back-up for most of 2011/2012. Torres, Chandler, and Donovan were initially on the Italy roster but were dropped due to minor injuries...therefore, they still make the 23. Buddle and Agudelo appeared the most as the back-up forwards so they make it.

So, that leaves us with who are going to be the new faces to challenge for spots on the 23 in 2012/2013???

On the 23, But Spot in Immediate Danger
    Juan Agudelo
    Edson Buddle
    Jonathan Spector
    Michael Parkhurst
    Geoff Cameron
    Bill Hamid

On the 23, Not in Immediate Danger, But Not Safe Either
    Brek Shea
    Daniel Williams
    Maurice Edu
    Jose Torres
    Sacha Kljestan
    Clarence Goodson
    Nick Rimando

    Locks for 2012/2013
G-Tim Howard, D-Tim Chandler, Fabian Johnson, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo, M-Landon Donovan, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, F-Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore

    --------------------------------

    Return-from-Injury Recovery Pending
Stuart Holden-let him regain his starting role again first...we'll be ok to look at other options in the shortterm
    Oguchi Onyewu-"
Omar Gonzalez-camp cupcake might be the earliest we see him.

So Beckerman who started 5 of the 6 games he was available was not a part of JKs 11-12 roster but Kljestan who got 2 callups the second only after 5 midfielders including Beckerman was out injured, is a 11-12???

I understand your point (it's a good one), but i had to go with Kljestan over Beckerman...mainly because of the Italy roster. To me, despite being a factor in 2011/2012, Beckerman missed out on Klinsi's 23 for 11/12 due to being behind Edu, Jones, and Bradley in the depth chart at CDM. it's the same reason why i cut Orozco, Rogers, and Castillo although they received significant minutes under JK...it was suggestive that Klinsmann saw them on the way out. Now, the same argument could be made for Guzan over Hamid...but the fact that Guzan didn't break a single game-day roster and that i believe Hamid was being saved for prepping for the U-23's. However, i will concede that it's an argument that can easily be challenged.

Beckermen is still part of the 23.

Kljestan hasn't really done anything to displace anyone.

yes, i do... but i do not believe that he was enough of an impact player to still be listed as a 23 upon his returns given that Kljestan was on the rise and that Jones, Edu, & Bradley are better at his position. Now, i will state again that you have a very valid argument, but i believe Beckerman's inclusion was more of Klinsmann trying to challenge the status quo and test his alternatives than believing Beckerman is a mainstay on the team. I could be wrong. But it is my belief that if Klinsmann had to pick his 23 for 2011/2012...he would pick Kljestan over Beckerman.

Note that i also dropped Gooch due to his injury.

If the mass wants to include Beckerman over Kljestan...

I'd place Kljestan in the category as Ready Now for 23...And Beckerman as in the Immediate Danger category.

    I guess I am confused by "Klinsmann's 23 for 2011/2012"

Agudelo was banished to the U23 as his "appropriate level" after the the October friendlies is IN.
Torres has been hurt since after the Sept friendlies but is IN.
Gooch who was declared by Klinsmann as back after October and is now hurt is Out?
Shea who did not make the original Italy roster but had made every one of the 9 prior is IN
Kljestn who made the September roster had not been seen since and needed 5 injuries from the original Italy roster to make that squad is IN.
Edu who has made every roster when available and started 6/7 is NOT SAFE.

Interesting tea leaves you are reading! :)

jesus Christ...nitpicky aren't you. Beckerman is clearly behind Bradley, Jones, Edu, and Williams as a CDM on the USMNT. Hell, i believe Ricardo Clark will surpass him again. Also, it's pretty lucid that Klinsmann used Beckerman to see what his other alternative were because his whole premise was to offer something different than Bob Bradley. If Beckerman is on the 23 for the May friendlies and Kljestan is omitted (unless for an injury), i'll gladly eat some crow. And the other players you listed play different positions; it's a different story.

But that's not even the point of the post, it's what players will become figures into the team in 2012/2013. And i firmly believe Beckerman will not be a mainstay for the team going forward unless we go through an injury crisis and his presence in 2011/2012 was more exploratory than considering him a key figure.

Oh I get it, it is not Klinsmann's 23 it is your 23.

Do you really believe that JK started Beckerman 5 of the 6 games he was available out of JK's first 7 games, just to see what his alternatives were? Do you think Beckerman played the full 90 in 4 of those 5 just to see then alternatives. Do you think he started Beckerman against Slovenia after he benched Shea, Williams, and Edu after the France match and kept Jones on the bench just to see what the alternatives were.

    Wow!

yeah, i do... the same reason that i think that he dropped Ream, Rogers, Orozco, and Castillo (although, i believe that Ream will quickly make a return to the team given his play at Bolton). he wanted to see some of the other faces that Bob Bradley didn't use as much. i can't blame him for that; pretty typical for a new manager. but going into the future, i would bet my house that Beckerman is not going to be the guy that the team is built around.

Wow! according to your logic, Beckerman is more a part of the current USMNT under Klinsmann than Donovan. I didn't realize i was offending Beckerman's favorite fan.

I think what this guy means (should have said) is thanks for doing this great analysis, I really appreciate the time you put in. If I have a minor disagreement on one of the fringe players and the original poster concedes there is a viable discussion point there, I should just tip my hat in recognition of the comprehensive analysis and move on.

That is probably what he meant.
Positive Rep to Eleven Bravo for this great conversation starter.

Actually not a fan, if anything at CDM I am a huge JJ fan.

As I said I was confused by you calling it JK's 23. It is clearly just your 23 so carry on!

Have you seen how he's been playing this season for Tijuana?
Castillo absolutely deserves another shot at some point, to see if he can lose the nerves on the international level and perform like he does for Tijuana.

Beckerman was not an experiment at all. He was purposefully used to show others how JK wants his # 6 to play. Other 6s were not in form or hurt which made beckerman's ride so lengthy and logical.
But it's very clear that other options are better athletes and beckerman will be eclipsed But if these others don't use their brains thè way JK wants, do not be surprised to see Kyle get lots of minutes again

How is Velasquez' situation different from George John? And plenty of others are not cap tied, I don't think even Brek Shea is...
And what places Henley, Potts, and Delaney in "Nationality Watch" but not Seb Hines?

I'd move Velasquez to "Keep an eye on" (since he is a dual citizen who hasn't played for another country), and separate Nationality Watch into two, those who are currently playing for other national teams (Potts, Henley, Delaney, plus others like the Parker and Hoyos brothers), and those who are currently ineligible to play for the US because they're waiting for citizenship (Mwanga, Nagbe, Zakuani).

Also I'm not sure what the point is of listing guys like Conor Casey who will never play for the national team again. Might as well include half a dozen MLS goalkeepers and Hejduk if you're going to do that... meanwhile no Chris Rolfe on any of these lists, I'd bet half my salary that he's more likely to get called into a future camp than Conor Casey.

And I have no idea what to make of this:
Bunbury maybe, if you're being really kind. Davies only if you have a time machine and can prevent the car crash. And someone had a problem with Edgar Castillo being listed there....

tbh, i might get flack for saying this, but i never thought beckerman ever did THAT poor of a job... my only major gripe with him is that the man is slow as molasses (sorry if misspelled).

You're not the only one. I don't think he's a starter (or frankly, even a bench player), but I don't think he's the evil incarnate some people on here post about.

Good backup to have for the fluff games. Course, those fluff games are rapidly disappearing nowadays.

i never said he was bad either...i just think he's clearly behind Bradley, Jones, Edu, and Williams, and also imo, arguably behind Clark.

The guy I can't wait to see is josh Gatt. I think Shea is the most overrated looney toon to ever play for the us. Also I'd like to see whitbread and Hines if zak can stay healthy long enough

Great list Eleven Bravo, looking at it at first glance I dont think the U.S have ever had this much depth in attackers. Theres so many more promising ones too, a couple of them are bound to be good. can't wait till the gold cup next year to see which new players JK introduces to integrate into the full team.

Brooks and Kiesewetter have just been sent down to Hertha's U19s.

They're far from Hertha's first team...............and far from any chance with the USMNT in 2012/2013.

First off, I want to say good job. It's an interesting list you've compiled.

And I hate to jump in on the Beckerman pile on, but here we go....

I don't rate Beckerman internationally. I think he's a very good MLS player, but I agree, there are many options I would put in front of him internationally (Bradley, Jones, Edu, Kljestan, Torres). Personally, I think our offense terribly suffered with Beckerman in the lineup and the corresponding defensive payoff isn't high enough.

But Klinsmann has done nothing but rave about Beckerman.

This isn't comparable to the other guys you listed who played their way off the team. All those guys (Ream, Orozco, Castillo, Rogers) didn't impress, and subsequently haven't been called up as a result. Beckerman has been personally praised by Klinsmann numerous and wasn't called up due to injury.

Bradley's performances for the Nats lately have been fantastic. I do think that he's won a starting job, and that very well could be at Beckerman's expense. But not at the expense of him losing a spot in the 23. I'd be shocked if Beckerman is dropped from the roster for the May-June callups.

It's much more likely that Kljestan would be dropped to make room for Beckerman than vice versa. Hopefully Klinsmann will get over Beckerman soon. But I wouldn't count on it.
