Last minute change? What last minute change?

Univision announced 6 weeks ago that all the "1st choice" matches on Saturday night would be on UDN instead of TeleFutura as of April 7.

Univision ran promos last weekend informing viewers that Monterrey-Tigres would be on UDN.

Just because idiots are too busy on Twitter and Facebook instead of paying attention to the news, that doesn't mean Univision didn't do anything to inform them prior to the launch of UDN.

    ==

Remember that UDN will earn Univision over $100 million in subscriber fees in 2012, before even one advertisement is sold. That's more than what FOX Deportes, GOLTV, and ESPN Deportes will earn COMBINED.

Univision is in no hurry to sign another carriage contract for UDN with another MSO unless that MSO were to agree to put UDN on English-language expanded basic at $1/subscriber each month.

People just love to complain just for the sake of complaining.

I have seen Univision Deportes ads during mexican games each of the last 3 weeks prior to today.

I have also seen their commercials that have Maradona and Pele and Chicharito they have been running a lot on Telefutura and Univision talking about cambios (changes).

What do you consider a "last minute change"? 3 weeks is pretty reasonable to me.

Is not easy for the people with this economy just switch their cable or satellite provider just because univision and their selfish $$$ interest wants you to do that.... this include more cost or breaking contracts with their actual pay tv provider...I see a bad move by univision taking mexican soccer from over the air tv to paid tv...I predict this channel will not be that successful as they are thinking now

Well they want you to call up your provider and pressure them to add the new Network to your programming.

Complain to your service provider, don't complain about Univision's tactics.

People who read and post on this forum follow the industry and pay an abnormal amount of attention to it almost to a fault or where they lose touch with what is common. I occasionally watch some Mexican games depending on the matchup and I follow MLS. I rarely watch any other programming on the family of networks. I didn't know about UDN until Friday despite watching matches on Univision, Galavision and Telefutura. It's not outrageous for people to complain about a change that happens after the season began whether their complaint is Univision changing their tactics into the season or their service provider not giving into Univision's demands...

Univision started a new channel and put a game on there?

ESPN did the same thing more than once. Duke/UNC was once on a rogue channel called ESPN2. College games were on then-unknown channels called ESPNU. Press conferences and "extended coverage" aired on ESPN News.

Even the Big Ten did the same thing with BTN.

The game of "put popular events on obscure channels in hopes of wider carriage" has been around for ages and won't be going away any time soon.

Considering how the climate of sports has changed since espn has taken over just about everything, is it really fair to compare this situation on an apples to apples level? (Also, I may be wrong, but I believe espn had the national rights to Duke/UNC, but the ACC still has territorial rights.) I have no problems with Univision launching a sports network. I simply think people have a valid complaint. I hardly see how people are wrong to be upset especially since there were no changes to broadcast schedules for the channels in your example.

I'm only seeing the SD version on 869. If you get it in HD, can you tell me
which satellite (129?) and transponder ? You know, menu-6-1-1.
    Thanks.

your inability to provide a link doesn't appear to make your information or statements accurate with respect to the annual fee of Univision's current deal with SUM/MLS:

    http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/...ht-Year-Agreement-To-Broadcast-MLS-Games.aspx

unless of course you can show that Tripp Mickle had his information incorrect back in fall 2006, or if that information has been updated or corrected since.

I apologize: I meant to say I am only getting them in SD (both).

Dunno why I typed that I was getting them in HD.

Again, my apologies and if anyone does know what to do in order to get these channels in HD, I'd really appreciate that info.

Univision announcEd the new channel with anticipation but never gave their tv public that it would only be on Dish, so therefore people have a right to complaint.. Not everybody is uptodate with the interwebs,,

Every announcement from Univision between April 1 to April 7 included the following: "solo por DISH Latino"

No one else other than DISH was willing to pay $1/subscriber each month to place UDN on English-language expanded basic.

    Univision knew that for weeks.

Don't expect any major MSO to blink until July at the earliest.

U.S. viewership for Liga Mexicana matches has been going in the wrong direction since 2007 and the bottom is NOT in sight. The MSOs all have Nielsen books.

If Univision had launched UDN 2 years ago and put 8 World Cup 2010 matches exclusively on UDN, then UDN would be in 70 million households by now.

Univision is late to market with UDN. About 2 years late.

(If Univision were to lower the price of UDN for one MSO, then EVERY MSO would get the discount due to the "most favored nation" clause in each carriage contract.)

really? peeling off a few WC matches to a UDN/pay option in 2010 would have given the network better distribution (or helped get it into "70 million households by now")?

viewers would have been demanding UDN (in summer 2010) from their provider, even if/when they could have watched those same 2010 World Cup matches (all be it in English) on an ESPN?

(did/does Univision's FIFA contract even allow for non-OTA games for the WC proper in 2010 or 2014?)

and, any updates or clarification on your claim of (just) $2million per year from Univision to SUM/MLS for 2007-2014, when "SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL’s Tripp Mickle reports the deal is worth nearly $80M" total across those 8 years?

I've been checking this channel out since last Friday and their programming is mostly low production value talk shows for the league's most popular teams (Chivas, Club America, etc...) and repeated (Mexican) soccer highlights programs. Sort of like watching Wayne's World with Mexicans talking about futbol :D

The actual few games (only those owned by Televisa/Univision) broadcasted are repeated ad nauseam until the next round of matches. I thought they would
show other games (from Azteca/Telemundo) but that is not the case.

Overall, a waste of time until they start showing at least matches from other
South American countries or Copa Libertadores. Nobody is going to waste their time watching these matches in blurry SD.

Univision Deportes Network wanted La Liga, but got blown away by the Emir.

One would now expect Univision Deportes Network to take a shot at the English Premier League, but most likely as the 3rd partner along with FOX and ESPN, and only on the condition that Univision Deportes Network would get "1st pick in Spanish" for all 38 rounds in order to guarantee that Manchester United appears on Univision Deportes Network each week (assuming that the Emir and Comcast/NBC Sports/Deportes Telemundo aren't able to blow away the FOX-ESPN-Univision alliance.)

Other than Manchester United and particularly Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, the EPL doesn't offer Univision Deportes Network with much value.

FOX should have locked up Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana through the year 2020. The Southern Cone outfits (CONMEBOL, AFA, etc.) prefer 10-year contract cycles instead of 2, 3, or 4-year cycles.

So then you are essentially agreeing with my post from last week!!:D The pushback on jamming channels down the expanded basic throat that a very small few want has grown in the last few years.

They aren't getting $1 per month per sub for some FMF matches only from Comcast or TWC. Only hope they have is to bundle it with total Univision coverage but even then they won't get $1 net for that network.

It's going to become like streaming TV where you can't get every service on every platform.

    There's a reckoning coming soon.

So Univision doesn't care that no other providers are gonna show the channel other than Dish for the rest of the season?

Univision Deportes Network will pull in over $100 million in subscriber fees during 2012 from just the one deal with DISH.

Univision will get its money soon enough.

When the other MSOs have to renew their deal with Univision, Univision can wrap Univision, Galavision, TeleFutura, and Univision Deportes Network into one bundle and charge $2.50/subscriber each month for placement in the English-language expanded basic tier, take it or leave it.

Let's see how many MSOs will be willing to put up a fight then.

There will be a nasty, public fight between one MSO and Univision. That is almost guaranteed.

    Hi

I have a few questions about univision deportes network...

1- is this channel just like univision? I mean, is this just another channel focused on mexican football?
2- is univision deportes network likely to broadcast south american qualifiers? if so, starting when? do you think they will show the upcoming south american qualifier matches ?
3- I love to watch copa libertadores and sudamericana on fox sports with argentinian commentators.. I can't imagine how boring it would be watching a libertadores match on univision... so my question is, do you think univision will have the tv rights for the libertadores starting in 2012? that would be devastating.

    thanks
