I realize that we have had major defensive problems this season, and that Franklin gave up a goal, and Saunders made an excellent save to stop another goal. But our finishing has been atrocious all season. If half of the great looks that Keane, Buddle, Magee, and Barrett got had gone in, we would have won on the road against the most in-form team in the league.

Giving up one goal against KC on the road isn't a tragedy. If we expect to win a game, we need to finish chances. It would be great if our midfield provided more quality balls for more chances, but we got the number of chances we got, and didn't get one of them on frame.

It doesn't make sense that the two don't match - the summary is also "an actual game chart". They both use Opta data. I'm inclined to believe the one that I posted as it resembles what I observed.

I agree they should match (more or less). By contrast, I tend to believe the detail over the summaries and guess what, it matches what I observed. :D

FWIW, I am not saying Stephens is any great wonder. But he wasn't the biggest problem in the midfield for the KC match.

Chad Barrett made "Not" Goal of the Week.

    Sigh.

I'll go a step further and say that Stephens was a bigger problem in the midfield. The nature of his passing was only part of the problem that was Michael Stephens. You add in things like failure to show for the ball, failure to clog passing lanes, failure to support the attack...

I hate this segment. Borg is so sanctimonious, and most of those are just regular old misses. Burch has a guy making contact on his back, which I'm pretty sure caused him to hit the crossbar.

I just think this sort of thing perpetuates the myth that everyone should score on every opportunity. If it were that easy, we would all be professional players. :p

I just find it funny. I'm not a big fan of Borg either, but the video makes me laugh.

Lopes will be on it next week.

So the 1-0, no shots on target loss in SKC doesn't seem quite so bad this morning considering RSL came away with a 1-0 and one shot on goal. I’m certainly not a “less bad is good” person, but SKC is the best team in the league. It’s just a shame thanks tithe unbalanced schedule we won’t get to play the again at full speed until pottentially the play offs.

// wow I just looked at SKC’s schedule their schedule is a cake walk. One home game against RSL, Galaxy, San Jose & Dallas their only tough away game is Seattle, maybe Houston and maybe the two away to New York, but based on NYRB’s defense so far SKC wont have a problem scoring. I don't think there's been a more fortunate path the SS in years

It's why I picked them to take the Shield. They are in the weaker conference, and their schedule is forgiving. Add to that they are a good team?

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2012 Shield Winners.

Bruce Arena had a point about the Shield being less fair this year - the Eastern Conference is just not as good, so it's easier to win over there for a team that's decent.

With all of this said, injuries and bad form happen. But if SKC can continue to win, they (like us in 2010) will have a bank to rely upon from the start of the season.

Might be time to un-sticky this one.
