I don't know how you can draw any of those conclusions from that one replay. Yes, it looks like the United player bumps the Wigan player. But it also looks, to me, like the Wigan player might have already made physical contact with the keeper prior to that bump. I honestly can't tell from the one angle we have and--either way--I think "absolute horrendous" is over the top.

Plus, the attacker doesn't have "the right" to be in space that the goalkeeper already occupies. Doesn't mean we necessarily have a foul, but I think what the way you've written that statement is a problematic way of putting it.

looks like a pretty good call to me based on the one far away replay in that clip. The offensive player appears to be leaning back into the GK to block him. And I say that as some one who hates MU.

    I didn't
I'm watching the game live and they've given numerous replays.

But live I thought it was a bad call.
    Replays just confirmed it.

Remember, this was the AR who made the call, not the CR.
The AR had a bad day.

He also failed to call a pretty clear handling offense against Wigan that would have given Man U a PK.

    Here is the better view.

If he is impeding (or fouled the keeper in anyway) it is because he is being pushed by Evans.

As it turned out, Dowd missed a corner decision and Wigan got one. I don't think that's a foul though, and certainly not one the AR should be calling?

If there was contact != impeding.

I'm just going on what I heard - I didn't watch the game.

Also, I wasn't AR2 tonight at The Hawthorns, watching in real-time, at full speed, with one view, under enormous pressure, etc.

    Neither were you.

We were watching from the comfort of our homes, with vastly different angles, no crowd, no pressure based on recent interpretations of our peers performance, etc.

Question - can you ever post anything without the use of unnecessarily powerful emotional epithets?

That looks like a foul to me; this is a really common hockey move where a player uses a tiny amount of contact from a defender to make contact with the goalie, and it sure looks to me like this is what happened here. It also appears that the referee has to look through 5 or so players, so its possible he sees the goalkeeper flail about and ask the AR if he has a call as well.

I'm not allowed to express that I think a call was exceptionally poor and that the AR made two incorrect game changing decisions?

Call it emotional epithets if you like.

I call incorrectly disallowing a goal and incorrectly not calling obvious handling in the PA a horrendous performance for the AR.

Just look at Giggs reaction on the post. He's got the best view of anyone and he reacts negativity to the goal being scored without any small complaint re the GK.

Martinez is seen saying to the fourth "How could he see it from there?". From his angle and distance, with a post and Giggs in front of him, he can't be sure that anything sinister has happened.

Communication could have been better. He raised the flag quickly and Dowd would have had to over-rule him or go and speak to him which isn't an issue however he could have raised alarm to the incident without raising the flag and Dowd might have said there was nothing in it.

You are also right on the hand ball call. Not sure what he was looking at but he should have seen it considering it was on his side. Officials are human though and the cynic in me suggests they went in at half time and got a chance to see the decision on the screen/Wigan staff brought it to their attention. Sub-consciously he may have not given the call because he wasn't 100% sure where as on another day without already giving United a decision he may have put the flag up for the penalty.

That's just a viewpoint but I still don't see it acceptable that:

    A)The goal was disallowed
    B) The handball wasn't seen
    C) Johnny Evans should have received a second yellow for a scissor late challenge in front of Dowd.

    This isn't Hockey.

The player was standing in front of the goalkeeper and doing nothing else. If there is slight body to body contact it's not a foul. It's like on a throw to players are contacting each other.

The goalkeeper is free to do and move where he wants. He can't move directly in front however because an opposition player is standing there. There is nothing wrong with standing your ground. The goalkeeper is lightweight and didn't put up any fight to make a movement to the ball or anything, he just stood behind the player and he got bailed out by a wrong call.

The end is near my friends. The EPL refereeing Apocalypse is among us.

What in the world are some of you people looking at? The attacker moves in front of the keeper and charges him unfairly. He may even have been in an offside position and interfering with an opponent - impossible to tell from the videos.

What in the world are some of you people looking at? The attacker moves in front of the keeper and then backward, charging him unfairly. Trifling contact maybe at midfield, but not here. It certainly had an effect on play here.

Many are probably wondering what YOU were looking at....LOL! The attacker can't possibly be offside as both the ManU keeper and defender are standing on the goal line at the time the ball is played.

IMO, its either a push, or a hold, or nothing. I don't think its impeding b/c impeding doesn't involve contact. Nor do I think the attacker interfered with the keeper in the sense that he blocked his line of sight.

This would, of course, happen in a match where Wigan is involved.

But I don't think there's enough there for a push or a hold.

    And Man U.
They have benefitted from a huge game changing call in 3 of their last 4 games.

Non-call late when Carrick took out Murphy in the PA vs Fulham
The award of a PK when Ashley Young was well offside vs QPR
    And now this.

The money involved in these decisions is staggering.
The game, the players, the teams, the fans deserve better.

I don't realize until I read Graham Poll's twitter feed that the issue is these refs doing too many games. And the AR position is part time.

    It's stunning isn't it?
The league has revenues of approximately $3.25 billion and they don't have enough officials and employ AR's part-time.

    Disgusting.
Oh, wait, that may be too strong.
    Unfortunate.
