replying Pete's comment here. no definitely not, but the obvious fact that some of the players who were ignored by AVB are doing well under RDM(who pretty much observed the whole fiasco from the closest & managed to learn & now is applying that observation with respect to that) at the cost of those who played under AVB despite poor form certainly tells something. As it was mentioned before, AVB was too much obsessed with the future & more intriguingly his attention went more towards fighting the press & certain 'pundits' which frankly, best be ignored. AVB biggest mistake was relying heavily on his project at a club where he's not expected to win something tomorrow, rather today(& let's be honest club/Roman are not likely to drop that anytime sooner, whoever comes will have to go on with that). Under that condition, AVB's likely options were: 1. Overhaul, 2. AVB being tactical genius, 3. Trust young players, 4. Be a great man-manager & use what resource he has to full extent. Sadly he failed all of the 4. The wildcard option of tremendous owner support came to an end when he lost the dressing-room, trust of superiors & staying competitive.
Zola says he is interesting in the Chelsea job What do you think? IMO, Zola would be the same kind of gambling we took with AVB. Not a lot of managerial experience and no history of managerial success would be a big a risk-move. I'd rather hold out for Mourinho or Capello or [etc.].
you don't remember where they were before Zola, how they improved defensivly, how they finished 9th his first year, how their owner then went belly up, how they sold so many players, what a mess it became, how one of the new owner clowns constantly undermined things and threatened to cut salaries in half, sell all players other than Parker, made bids for players without telling Zola, yet they stayed up, and how they went down after he left.
This. Biggest mistake Zola made was spending all that money on that little Italian player whose name escapes me at the moment. Zola did a good job at West Ham, the club was/is just fundamentally flawed. Of course, so is ours
agreed with Claudio and lobo and as for Nsereo (hello Kirsten) every Manager makes a bad purchase does that mean Zola is ready for this job? For me, no- not at all. I am really hoping that someone like Zola, Rogers, etc. lands one of the jobs where there is moderate pressure to win at a biggish club as a stepping stone to prove themselves (feck that sounds spoiled- per my comments in the other thread- but I can not describe any other way). Aston Villa is a good example of this type of club but sadly these clubs usually go for the safer Manager retreads (i.e. Steve Bruce) instead of taking a chance on an up and coming manager.
I forgot about Savio But no, I was thinking of a left-footed white Italian player. He had a few moments of quality but was ultimately not up to it. I hope someone knows who I'm talking about because it's really bothering me now!
Yes! Alessandro Diamanti. It was on the tip of my tongue the whole time. Per usual, must spread rep...
Yeah, I wouldn't quite say Diamanti flopped but he didn't do the best. Think he was runner up in POTY for West Ham though. It was an awful season for West Ham but as shown after his sacking, it stemmed from much more than Zola considering things only got worse.
There is no doubt that the circumstances worked against Zola at West Ham but I dont think he is up to the job he would be facing here at Chelsea. The clear-out and rebuilding of this team is going to take someone special and someone who has done it before. Personally, I think the job has Moyes written all over it. Granted he doesnt have he doesnt have a ton of CL experience but to be honest I dont think that is going to be a factor next year. I am hoping for Moyes or even Klopp come summer.
haha diamanti, what a bizarre player. that was my initial thought in response to your post. should have gone with him not the GERMAN/UGANDAN nsereko . randomly watched him for bologna earlier this season and he was outstanding. so up and down.
I see that Anelka has moved into management in China - perhaps he could/would come back as our new boss?
Chelsea’s change in defensive system under Roberto Di Matteo http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/04/16/chelseas-change-in-defensive-system-under-roberto-di-matteo/
From the Daily Fail: Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich is prepared to break the bank to lure former manager Jose Mourinho away from Real Madrid and back to Stamford Bridge. Wages of more than £9m a year after tax and a Bernabeu compensation package of £25m are not out of the question.
right now i'm thinking RDM, UNLESS we can actually get jose back. i think that's really the only situation you could not give it to RDM right now.
