    Here's how I've got 'em.

A bit harsh to Chivas, I think, but the calculation looks at results only and not the opponent or the venue.

MLSSoccer.com Putting LA at 8 is crazy, they've played no where near that well.

Does your equation take into account pre-season power rankings?

It does not, it's essentially a season long average of a rating that takes into account the last 5 game results and goal differential, weighted so the most recent results carry more weight than older results. It's entirely results/perofmrance based. I wanted to see if I could apply the same metric to each team across the board and come up with something objective based solely on results. So far I think it's worked out pretty good, with a few exceptions.

ya LA has no business being in the top 10, right now they are nothing close to a top 10 team in the league. total mess in LALA land at the moment.

Yeah, LA's a mess, but 2 of their 3 losses are to the teams currrently ranked #1 and #2 in just about every power-ranking out there....

I personally would put the team at about #11, but I can see putting them higher based on past results and the fact that 2 of the 3 losses come at the hands of the consensus best two teams currently in the league...

The same can be said for the Revolution who lost to SKC, with an early red card, lost to SJ in the season opener, and dominated LAG.

Any Power Ranking that has LAG above the Revs is simply wrong.

Early season power rankings are always shaky. LA and the Revs have both lost to two top teams. Also, there's a lack of urgency at the beginning of the season due to the existence of playoffs (not hating, here).

f LA is still loosing 10 games into the season, then they'll hit rock bottom in the rankings. Until then, take these power rankings with a grain of salt.

No, there isn't. All the teams are still trying to win.

I'm talking about an "off the field" lack of urgency.

Teams are really taking extra precautions with injured players and taking time to integrate internationals. They're not pushing as hard as they can to get the best possible lineup on the field.

It's just my opinion. I think coaches are thinking more long term right now.

People are also pondering their loss at home in the CCL to arguably the worst team in the league.

The fact that MLS has them at #6 in their power ranking literally cannot be defended.

#11 may be about right.......but who knows.

Results go in, rankings come out. You can't explain that.

    Code:
    Team Rank Rating Change
    Kansas City 1 2.000 0
    San Jose 2 5.286 +1
    Salt Lake City 3 5.571 -1
    Seattle 4 7.000 -1
    New York 5 7.714 +1
    Colorado 6 9.571 -1
    Vancouver 7 9.571 0
    Houston 8 9.571 0
    Chicago 9 10.429 +1
    Dallas 10 10.714 +1
    Columbus 11 10.714 -2
    DC 12 11.714 0
    Chivas 13 12.143 +3
    LA 14 13.143 +1
    New England 15 14.143 +1
    Portland 16 14.571 -4
    Philadelphia 17 14.714 0
    Montreal 18 17.286 0
    Toronto 19 19.143 0

I think my model has Chicago too high, likely because they've only played 4 games. Hopefully this smooths out next week. Everything else feels about right, except perhaps Philly should be a notch or two higher. I've also thought about changing the way it assigns ratings. Right now it's averaging over the full season, but as it progresses I might change it to a last 5 or last 10 game average...

    Love this line...........

    8. FC DALLAS (3-2-1). Blas Perez strengthened his case for early consideration in Newcomer of the Year honors by notching a goal and an assist to help FCD rally past Montreal, 1-0.

Impressive for Blas. A goal and an assist on the same play?
    Nah.......the game finished 2-1.

I just want to know which of their 18 panelists didn't put SKC #1 and why.

Yeah, I'm a KC homer, but still, whether you think there are better teams out there who have played tougher schedules, at this point, how do you argue against a team that is 6-0-0 having beaten RSL and LA in the last two matches, not to mention only allowing 1 goal on 9 shots in six games.

I'd just like to see the reasoning not to put them in at #1 right now. I'm just dumbfounded.

Soccer America, the must-read weekly newspaper of my childhood, has become such a joke.

First I thought it was odd that Houston was ranked above Seattle, despite a worse record and having lost to the Sounders 2-0... but whatever. Then I got to this:

Jesus Christ. It's one thing to get the score wrong, it's another to notch a goal AND an assist in a 1-0 game.

Two additional errors that I noticed:
    1. Collin's other goal this season was on a free kick from Zusi, not a corner kick.
    2. The shot by Borchers was a weak header in the box, not from distance with his foot.

Another week, another set of mostly meaningless numbers. Still tweaking the formula a bit, but I feel like it's starting to shake out pretty well. Philly and DC were big movers in ranking this week, with Colorado the biggest loser, though I feel it's more a correction from being over rated last week than anything else.

RSL lost the most on rating after a third loss while Philly picked up a bunch by beating Chivas.

    Code:
Team Rank This Week/Last Week Rating This Week/Last Week
    Kansas City 1 0 2.875 -0.875
    San Jose 2 0 4.750 +0.536
    Seattle 3 +1 6.875 +0.125
    Salt Lake City 4 -2 7.125 -1.554
    New York 5 0 8.500 -0.786
    Vancouver 6 +1 9.375 +0.196
    Houston 7 +1 9.875 -0.304
    Chicago 8 +1 10.000 +0.429

    Colorado 10 -4 10.875 -1.304

    LA 14 +1 12.000 +1.143
