NPSL is a level below USL Pro. The City Stars used mostly D3 and NAIA players in USL-2.

For some reason I thought NPSL was on the same level as USL Pro, that's my mistake. Don't get me wrong, I'll definitely check AFC out and I want them to succeed.

Fair enough, haha. It's on the same level as the PDL. It's semi-pro. Some of the players are out of college, others are college players playing over the summer.

Some teams are semi-pro, others are amateur.

It's right on their website: "Teams comprised of players holding amateur playing status (high school, collegiate and former professional athletes)"

    It's an amateur league.

As long as the owners/operators aren't amateurs it should be a good time. :D

I could have sworn there were some teams in the league that actually paid players. Well shoot, I may have gotten that wrong. I know a couple of the guys on the team are done with college and don't have to worry about eligibility. Other than that, I'm excited about the team. I think we have a good group of players that should be able to compete for the division title. How we stack up with the rest of the league, however, is a mystery to me.

Has Detroit or any of the other teams even announced a player?

Most of these players have won a ton of games playing D-3. These were some of the best non D-1 teams in the country. Our first signeee was the D-3 national player of the year. We had some Akron guys try out, but Ill assume that Caleb didn't want them playing here. I was told that this team will play an up tempo style as they have a ton of speed.

How I've always understood it in "D4" (PDL/NPSL) is that teams can be either semi-pro or amateur but that who is which is kept secret by both leagues. I'll look for the link where I saw this.

I'm pretty sure the USL is pretty open about the PDL teams, given they call them PDL-Pro.

Most PDL teams are made up of mostly D1 athletes as was the Summit Assault. I hope AFC Cleveland can get an Akron player or two. Will help with getting Akron fans to Parma for a game.

Let's not bring up the Summit Assault. The way the team left and the way they handled the folding was completely unprofessional. They ticked off a lot of the supporters here in Akron and it certainly is not how you should run a franchise. Yeah, I have a problem with asking fans to collect tickets or pass out programs because you are disorganized.

They upset the USL as well. If you noticed there was never an official announcement, another team actually broke the news that the team was not coming back.

AFC Cleveland will be just fine with players from Ohio State, Marquette, Duquesne, Bowling Green, national champs Ohio Wesleyan, and NAIA powerhouse Notre Dame. I am hearing their international players are gamebreakers. I for one am excited, but please don't bring up the bad blood left by Akron Metro and the Summit Assault. We need to focus on the positives, not the negatives.

only mentioned that they were mostly made up of D1 players. I'm equally frustrated with Akron Metro's failure.

I am very impressed with AFC Cleveland's staff so far. You can tell by their facebook page that they're working hard to make their organization succeed. I know it's only NPSL and some people poo poo on that, but it's the best we have in Northeast Ohio this summer. I'll try to make it to a game or two this year.

I'd like to see an NASL or USL-Pro team in Akron/NE Ohio someday.I believe a fan owned club is the way to go in the future but it's going to require the entire Northeast Ohio to support it.

The attendance for Ohio Vortex's last game was 990. The UA soccer team set attendance records in 2011. There are some very good positives for soccer in NE Ohio and I hope AFC Cleveland continues to build on them during the summer.

I am also very excited about soccer in Cleveland. Not sure if Akron will ever be more than a college soccer town though.

The last game for the Vortex was the Invaders reunion and they had a decent crowd of close to a thousand, but were closer to 200 for every other game of the season. I was there for the last game and a lot of people came just to see the Invaders play and didn't really care about the Vortex and left before their game.

I'm hoping AFC Cleveland hits 1,000-1,500 fans a game. They have a nice facility and some serious quality. Check out some of their international players on Google once. A lot of these guys played for some well-known English clubs; I was impressed.

Cleveland is a great market for soccer and AFC Cleveland is going about things the right way. We won't really need a USL or NASL team once things go well this summer! Hope to see you out at a game; I already bought my season tickets.

I believe 1,000 per game would have been possible in Akron if done right. I hope it's possible for Cleveland. I'll see about getting the Rubber City Brigade to a few games. $25 for season tickets is within everyone's budget.

It would be nice to get the scarves before the game. At this point instead of mailing them out they should just have a list of the season ticket holders and pass them out at the first game. It would save them money and actually have the scarves be present for the opener.

I was wondering that, too. I'm not gonna be able to make to the first few matches, either.

The pictures on facebook make it look like between 100-200. It could be that the stadium is so big that it dwarfs the crowd.

That's what it was. There were about 400 people at the game. Problem is, Byers is so huge you'd never be able to know.

Attendance wise, I'm disappointed, but I'm not that surprised. It was a day game on Mother's Day. Hopefully Friday will be better. 6CS will be there and be loud. Hope to see some more people standing with us on Friday.

It's too bad Krenzler Field can't be used. It sucks that CSU is making it less soccer specific..

I wont be able to make it Friday because I have a baseball team to coach but a few Rubber City Brigade guys should be there.

At my first game. Not impressed with this org at all. They have one side reserved for 6th city only. All 20 of them at most. Coincidentally its the only side thats not staring into the sunset. That will make casual fans sure want to come back. Im typing from my phone so im not going to gon and on. But to sum up. I knew it would be low budget, just not this low budget. Just not for me.

QHad to pop back in to say a few more things. I forgot to mention that you needed special tickets to sit on that side. Guess season tickets arnet enough.. Apparently 6th city feels they need a stupid megaphone that makes sound effects to be heard.

Its annoying and it actually makes them harder to understand.

Even my six year old daughter was asking why they had the larger amount of people sitting where you cant see.

Ill just consider it a $100 donation to developmental soccer and wont be back. I could sit in my back yard and stare at tje sun for 2 hours.

Oh wow. Apparently they have a stereo sothey can play yakkety saks. Youve got to be kidding me.
