Gonna stop you right there. That's enough for me to take him to the tournament. Sorry.

agreed, i'd like to bring up the oft forgotten point that di natale has hardly played as a striker for italy so i don't understand this whole argument that he chokes or doesn't produce for italy.

he played a couple of times as striker, i remember this match in particular which where he scored two important goals while playing as striker

While this is certainly true that he often played well as a striker for the national team (not out wide where he is a waste), I was mostly referring to his choking vs Arsenal. He hit the post from point blank range, missed a penalty and was even asking, almost begging to be subbed off as if the entire world was ending. He's a mentally fragile bed shitter who won't show up when he needs to. Sadly enough, he's one of our best options up front after Balotelli.

i agree with this to an extent (i have to admit at this point i hadn't read your post and was just 'commenting wildly')

there is a context for that 'choking' ie. everything in that udinese team is on his shoulders, which i don't think is the case with the NT, and he also kept udinese in that tie as well so credit where credit is due

the thing that convinces me di natale should be brought along is that italy struggle against minnows, not really against the bigger sides, and di natale will put the goals away against the minnows who put men behind the ball

i also think prandelli's formation suits him

u cant compare baggio who was a super star and did so much...that 1 missed penalty means nothing to me. he was one of the greatest ever.

its not about 1 penalty, its just that im not sure how good he is in stepping up to the plate to lead the team. He did have some chances, in WC 2010 but hasnt really been that impressive. I love him at club level, i even made a thread about di natale before the world cup. I think if cassano/rossi cant go, he should be included but as like 4th/5th choice

A few hours maybe but sub him in the 75th min every game and he surely will score

Italian NT jersey seems to be made of iron when worn by Di Natale..I don't know why he so mentally weak that he can't show his skills at international level.

ya only if he took the same leadership he took in udinese. 2010 world cup was his best chance since there werent that many good players on that squad

Di Natale should not make the team.
Once a chocker always will be, he simply cannot handle the big tournaments
Quagiarella is the total opposite, he shines at the big stage and should make the team.

Its not like Quags has a lot of major tournament experience and/or success, club or National level, vs. ADN....quags shines at the big stage? Why because of his contribution in the last couple minutes of italys last match in WC10.

Both are versatile and can play a number different roles...I see ADN as being able to give a bigger contribution in terms of team play and goal potential.

The way I think of ADN is as a generous goliador, and Quags on the other hand an egoistic seconda punta. Strangely he sees the net better from outside the box. Not incredibly dangerous close to the net so I refuse to consider him as a CF. Decent on 1-on-1s bringing the ball forward. But (at least with Napoli) poor at reading movements and not nsync with other forwards.

Matri is a decent forward but not world class, Vucinic does well in the odd game but disappointing at times also...yet they are preferred starters over Quags...Di Natale is top goal scorer in serie A 2 years straight...if I would have to chose, gotta go with ADN.

You're complaining about Miccoli? Realy? If any player has merit to be there that hasn't been called yet, it would have to be Di Natale. Prandelli has already said he hasn't called him because he knows what he can do. I'd love to see him there.

Ummmm.. yeah! Anyone that knows even an infinitesimal amount about Italian soccer knows that Miccoli has been the best creative forward on the peninsula. And what does he have to show for it? At least Di Natale got to play in Euro 2008 and WC 2010.

Quags hasnt had his fair chances....at napoli and at juve...he was top scorer before he had a long injury and it took conte a while to inject him in the line up cuz he's conservative and he was not losing with his line up...so he didnt need to bring in quags....now the last 4-5 games look at it...he's in there and scoring. Conte is kind of a 1 forward guy with 2 creative wingers aside him...thats why he's used pepe and vucinic with matri.

Quags is a determined player and does shine on the big stage, unlike di natale. I think ADN would be good as a 5th choice or if no one else is available but for the sake of the future, it doesnt do any good to have him now...especially that he hasnt played with the team in the longest time.

i think in the end prandelli will bring the forwards that he has already used this year; balotelli, matri, giovinco, borini, rossi

He had a fair chance he just went off to Juve because he thought he wouldnt get any playing time at Napoli...

Sorry Pal but Matri isnt going and neither is Borini. If anything Prandelli will call the forwards used during qualifying and they are Cassano Rossi Balotelli Pazzini and Giovinco. If he deviates from that only Pazzini's position is under threat. Di Natale Quags and Osvaldo are ahead of those two. The first two actually have tournament experience and Osvaldo was a Prandelli player at Fiorentina.

normally i'd agree but theres no telling how cassano will be after his injury and pazzini is just horrible this year...why would he get picked? there are midfielders with more goals than him
and has di natale even played under prandelli?

When you look at who has been called these past two years only Cassano and Pazzini have tournament experience. The rest are green and there is no way the coach takes all rookies.

then in that case, di natale it is. Pazzini will be a waste of space. He'd be perfect for an EPL squad, he's not an inzaghi for italy...those poacher type strikers in italy arent ever the savior.

He has tough choices Prandelli and I wouldnt want to be in his position. Yes Pazzini isnt having the best year but I wont be suprised if he is picked because he has been constantly picked for four years now under two different coaches. Personally I prefer Osvaldo over him because he is stronger physically, is actually scoring goals at the moment and even though it was a minor tournament he delivered in the title game at Toulon.

The absolute worst thread I have ever read. Just awful and downright stupid and unfortunately followed by more stupidity in some of the follow up posts.

    my god u r overreacting.
    1. Italy havent had a friendly before this game since febuary. This was Russia's 3rd friendly in 8 days. Russia were the more prepared and physically sharp team and it showed.
    2. No Chiellini. He is a world class defender and would of made a huge difference.
    3. the front line of balotelli-Cassano-Montolivio have only played together before today for 59 minutes vs Ivory Coast back in august of 2010. this is still a project in its early stages. remember that the ultimate goal is to prepare for 2014.

Im still optimistic of a good performance at euro 2012. the squad selection is spot on imo, maybe a few players deserve to be there but none that would make a drastic difference. this is in no ways as worse as 2010, that team had no ********ing clue.
