http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2012/03/29/sports/11257202.txt "What I like about Jay in training is that one thing a lot of teams lack in this league is team defending. We've really worked on that, we're concentrating on defending in twos or threes instead of one-on-one." Awesome(no sarcasm). IMO, 1 of the things that makes the Galaxy so tough is that they play really good team defense. I hope we can attain something close
Just looking in MLS General and saw a discussion of how Seattle might average over 38K in attendance. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBDa0e9CLuY&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBDa0e9CLuY&feature=related[/ame]
If Kraft, the original FO/security had been in the early days of this team, even a smaller fraction serious about having a decent dialogue with the ardent supporters of this team..we would definitely have been averaging over 20k and possibly more by now. This is what you get when true blue supporters are treated like guano!! I used to defend the Revs and KRAFT(yes!! can you believe it) against everyone, especially my eurosnob friends and relatives. "Give the Revs a chance" "MLS needs support to attain the higher heights" "Bob KRAFT is trying to do good things" - YES! I actually said all those things for years! NOW..I pretty much say.."MLS is doing great, It's just our APATHETIC Owner who's bringing down the entire league" "He's an absentee owner who truly doesn't give a $hit" "I don't care if he was one of the original 6 who invested $5million in MLS, and that he once took over the running of San Jose. He's a THORN in the side of the beautiful game..if you don't believe it, Just look at the Revs franchise the past few years. Once TnT, Dempsey, Ralston, etc were gone they didn't do a damn thing to replace them" "And yes, they still treat the Supporters like CRAP"
Let's try this again... Can the Revs outsource their media presence to the newly launched Bruins entity? http://mashable.com/2012/03/26/bosto...nment-network/ They've been engaging and funny since they started, and it's a solid point to start from...
I'm happy for Seattle! Good to see the league thriving in other cities. The Revs won't come close to 20k let alone 30k on a consistent basis until there's an accessible urban stadium in the right location and more importantly, there's a completely different perception of this team.
Remember this unfortunate video? In the most recent 'The Far Post' podcast they addressed some of the criticism it was getting. They basically said that they didn't have the resources so of course they couldn't create a video consistent with the caliber of Portland. They didn't have an advertising agency working with them and this was supposed to be 'Only for fun'. Little did they know this would become a symbol of the state of this franchise. It was just sad to hear them admit defeat. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn7r0k_BN7k"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn7r0k_BN7k[/ame]
I'm confused. They keep saying they spend more money than most teams on marketing (what was their line, third most?) ... so if that's the case...? Hmmmm
My only guess is that this wasn't a big formal production. Just some bros getting together to make a funny video and everyone compared it to Portland's big formal production when it wasn't supposed to be in the same category.
But see that's exactly the problem... you can't go after the best or one of the best without some sort of attempt at one-upsmanship... you're just setting yourself up for failure and ridicule. It would have been better for them to have not even done this video, and I'm usually supportive of their attempts at improving their marketing no matter how bad or cheap it is
Pretty impressive rebrand concept from a guy who posts on the Uni Watch blog. I'd be in support of something like this if/when we finally move to a SSS. The red, white, and green concept is unique and refreshing compared to the majority of teams in the league who are wearing red, white, and blue as primary colors.
Yeah, but they'd have a bit of a problem if they tried to rename the organization NEFC - http://nefc.us/home
Problem is we know they are part of a mammoth sports organization and the idea that the Kraft Sports Group doesn't have resources is laughable. The guys making the videos may not have ACCESS to resources. That is another story entirely, but I still don't really believe it. If they came up with a real plan for to devise a series of promotional videos and made a business case for it, I firmly believe they would get access to whatever was needed. If you are a "major league" team, you need to be major league in everything you do and take the time to do things right, a la the Bruins and the Bear and the Gang. Otherwise you are wasting your time and setting the organization up for ridicule. Anyway, if the team keeps playing like they did against LA, they won't need to bother with hokey concept videos. Just splice some highlights together over some music and they'll be all set.
The Bruins & the NHL have some great commercials. I believe that what they were implying is that they don't have access. 'They' meaning the director of marketing and his three friends who made the video. Yes, shanary, I agree. They said in the podcast that it was better to try than to do nothing. I disagree. As my old boss used to say 'there is no point in doing something unless you are going to do it right'. Don't embarrass the organization further. Obviously people are going to compare your stupid video to other videos.
This is cool. I'm all for anyone's proposed redesigns of the team, but I don't know if we should completely dump the Red White and Blue scheme. I'd also like to keep something military in the crest. I don't know about the tree. I think the tree will be come to viewed the same way the crayola flag is viewed in time.
The tree was part of the colonial New England flag used during the American Revolution. I think its perfect.
i would take that logo/crest IN A HEARTBEAT. i hate that fingerpainting flag so much. EDIT: although it is super Christmas-y
I like that uniform design! The only thing I'd change would be to wear red shorts with the white jersey and have the right sleeve red on the jersey to match the home version. They could keep the Revolution name instead of the now-cliched FC-something or other. This isn't like the Habs, the first team that went the equivalent of the "FC" route with Club de Hockey Canadien (basically Canadian HC) as their official name.
Can someone please point me to another team in this league, or in fact any other top-level professional league in this country, where a video made "for fun" by "a couple of bros" would make it onto the team's website and be promoted by said team's social media accounts? Enough with this cheesy crap. Why don't they have access to professional-grade commercial production values? What about this?
I love how you quoted my 'for fun' & 'a couple of bros'. This is a very good point you raise. I don't see why I didn't think about this before. Everything you do as an employee reflects on the company. The Patriots organization especially takes this idea to heart. So this crappy video will reflect poorly on the organization. Therefore, someone should have stepped in and said 'this shouldn't have been posted'
Agreed. Something like [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjEhEFBu-C4"]this patriots video would be funny[/ame] Of course, that would mean retailers would have to carry Revs jerseys.
I'm sorry, I intended no slight. Your words accurately summed up in modern terminology exactly how this went down, so I used them. I couldn't have said it better myself, bravo. It makes it hard for me to believe this talk about a new day, new way of doing thing, ownership really cares when things like this happen. The actions do a lot more of showing the real attitude than the words do.
