Most of what we know for sure and for almost-sure about the US channels comes from a series of EPL Talk Network articles and reports from other outlets about the rights to Serie A and La Liga, one of which speculates on Al Jazeera's involvement in wresting the EPL rights away from Fox in the US and Sky in the UK:

Al Jazeera Sports Network Wins US TV Rights to La Liga, Says Source | Premier League blog, soccer news and football shirts from EPL Talk

Al Jazeera Wins La Liga US TV Rights, Says Source

Al Jazeera Wins Serie A US TV Rights, Says Source

Al Jazeera Sports Network ‘Ready to Spend and Spend Big’ For Soccer TV Rights In US, Says Source | Premier League blog, soccer news and football shirts from EPL Talk

Premier League - Al Jazeera set to take on Sky for football rights - Yahoo! Eurosport

beIN Sports: Al Jazeera’s New US Network For La Liga, Serie A, Ligue Un and Other Soccer | Premier League blog, soccer news and football shirts from EPL Talk

Also a few articles/tweets about this Fox Sports plan to create a national all-sports channel - to challenge NBCSN and CBSSN and of course ESPN.

News Corp. Considers Launching U.S. Sports Network to Rival ESPN, Says Report | Premier League blog, soccer news and football shirts from EPL Talk

News Corp. Said to Plan U.S. Sports Network to Rival ESPN - Bloomberg

Ourand_SBJ (John Ourand from Sports Business Journal) Tweets (read from the bottom up)

Also there is the story about Fox Sports World Canada going away and possibly taking Fox Soccer Report with it.

Future Of Fox Soccer Report Uncertain After Fox Sports World Canada Plans to Shut Down | Premier League blog, soccer news and football shirts from EPL Talk

Connecting the dots about what this means for the future of Gol-TV, FSC and by extension ESPN wrt soccer in 2012-2013 is just the fun, bordering on beligerant speculation that usually goes on here.

Can FSC exist without the EPL?
Will GolTV get pulled from the sports packs without La Liga
Will Fox Soccer Report now come from Jamaica?
Will Al-Jazeera use that brand on their Sports channel and will it get clearance?
What does this mean for MLS?
What about Fox and the World Cup? Will FSC even be around by then?

    and most importantly

How will we watch all our games?

With these TV rights jumping hands every 3 years, things will always change and people who could watch before in one fashion will not be able after the switch - and vice versa. That's how it is with this stuff. At this point I'm just happy I can watch now.

I guess the lesson is this: Don't sign those 2 year cable/satellite contracts until you know who will have the channels that have the games that you want to see.

Is there some reason why the this person who keeps insulting members (and now an entire country) has not been banned from this forum yet?!

I didn't come here to get insulted by some nobody who thinks they know everything, I was merely asking some questions- is that not allowed Mr. Huhe or whatever the hell your name is?!

Thanks for the info Blackhornet, much appreciated.

You haven't figured out Oliver's "fearless prediction" method yet? He posts news that has been reported elsewhere (that stuff is reliable) and makes a bunch of guesses (some well-educated some not). The more guesses he makes the more likely one of them will be right. In another thread, he's come up with about five different predictions for what Fox Soccer will do about a soccer news show once Fox Sports World Canada shuts down.

10 years ago, we were getting one UEFA CL match per week, on Tuesdays. (Were we getting the Wednesday ones then? I forget.) Either way, I remember it being a La Liga-Serie A matchup whenever possible. Once ESPN Deportes started, the ESPN2 match went back to a EPL team.

The point is well-taken, though. They barge in, which kind of stinks, but then again, the company with the deepest pockets gets the content.

Setanta had the 7:30 AM game? I remember those games being on FSC until ESPN2 started airing them.

FOX Soccer had the Saturday 1245 London Time EPL matches in 2004-2006 before Setanta Sports USA was launched. The Saturday 1500 London Time and Sunday 1600 London Time matches were pay-per-view back in those days.

Once Setanta Sports USA launched in August 2006, Setanta Sports USA got the Saturday 1245 London Time matches, 1st pick on Saturdays at 1500 London Time, and the Sunday 1330 London Time matches. FOX Soccer got 2nd pick on Saturdays at 1500 London Time, the Saturday 1715/1730 London Time matches, and Sunday 1600 London Time matches.

ESPN2 got the Saturday 1245 London Time matches when Setanta Sports USA was unable to pay its bills in August 2009.

IIRC Back when Setanta was on, FSC had a 10:00a game (second choice) and the 12:15p game with Super Saturday+ afterwards ... or in between. And on Sunday they had the 11:00a game. Setanta would show their Irish broadcast with Setanta graphics, the other-game-goal spoilers, and Pat Dolan in studio. They did the same with the live Champions League broadcasts too although sometimes they took the Sky feed directly. If their Irish broadcast didn't align with the game they had here, they would just show the world feed - which is what I think they used to do with the early broadcast and the Sunday morning broadcast. you'd get the halftime features that came from TWI.

Before Setanta, FSC/FSW used to have the 7:30a game with a Bundesliga game at 10 (9:30??) and Eredivisie after that.

I hadn't realized that they launched that late. Right after the World Cup?

When did GolTV get Serie A? I remember they had La Liga in 2003-04, but I don't remember what happened between then and 2006-7. I used to watch Serie A on RAI in 2003 - with that comical in-game goal update from the other matches happening simultaneously. Of course I couldn't understand a word of what they were saying back then. Except "incredibile" lol

I now suspect that Comcast is angling to be the U.S. launch partner of beIN Sports USA.

    Why?

Comcast-Spectacor's Front Row Marketing subsidiary will handle the advertising sales and marketing of the 2012 French Super Cup, which will be played at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on July 28, one week before the start of the 2012-2013 Ligue 1 season.

    http://aol.sportingnews.com/soccer/...-will-open-season-with-game-at-red-bull-arena

The 2011-2012 champion of Ligue 1 will play the winner of the 2011-2012 Coupe de France.

Note that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is currently level with Montpellier at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 8 matches to go. PSG is now 100% owned by the Qatar Investment Authority.

    http://www.ligue1.com/ligue1/classement

One of the semifinalists in the Coupe de France is Ajaccio, which features Mexican National Team goalkeeper Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa. Ochoa is the star of several TV commercials targeting the U.S. Hispanic market, notably for Allstate Insurance, Home Depot, and Powerade.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRvCMQn1mHg"]Allstate "Wall" Commercial featuring Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="http://vimeo.com/11566614"]Memo Ochoa Defends Two Goals At Once on Vimeo[/ame]

One would expect the French Super Cup match to be shown in the U.S. on Telemundo and Comcast-operated regional sports networks such as SNY.

    ==

One would also have to suspect that the Barcelona-Real Madrid "clasicos" in La Liga BBVA starting next season could be headed for Telemundo.

Comcast owns 51% of Telemundo and NBC Sports Group (via NBCUniversal.)

Any news yet on which cable station La Liga will be shown on next year in the U.S. market?

Still TBD. Too many big players involved in this one, with too many moving parts and too many variables that no single entity can control. We'll have to wait for things to play out...

    Thanks.
I sort of assumed that, although since the next season is a few months away we should know something in the not-too-distant future about which cable station La Liga will be broadcast.
With La Liga gone from Gol tv, I would assume they will broadcast more German Bundesliga games, and with Serie A gone from Fox Soccer Channel, I would assume they will make up for that with a few more EPL games as well as Scottish league games.

    Don't assume anything.

When all the big players are involved in a game of "high stakes poker", every option is on the table until it isn't.

La Liga, especially el clásico, could end up on a number of channels starting next season, including the channel now known as GOLTV.

Telemundo is now a possibility for el clásico now that Comcast appears have made an attempt to "steal" the telecasts and get paid for doing so by leasing time to Qatar Media Corporation. (That would be extra humiliating for Univision if that were to happen. A slick move like that would be classic Comcast.)

No one knows for sure what will happen next except the Emir of Qatar, who holds the U.S. rights to La Liga for the next 3 seasons (and paid more for the rights than the annual revenue of GOLTV and ESPN Deportes combined) and do whatever he pleases with them.

I know none of us know for sure what is going to happen with La Liga, that wasn't my point.
My point was that if Gol tv doesn't have La Liga, and Fox Soccer doesn't have Serie A, obviously they will have to fill those time slots with other games, such as more of the Bundesliga, more EPL games or Scottish league games. (Unless of course they can get other leagues on Gol tv or Fox Soccer, the Dutch league or Portugese league or whatever, but I don't know if they plan on that).

We don't know as of yet which cable station will have La Liga next year, but whoever carries La Liga sure will have a quality league.
5 of the 8 teams left in Europe are Spanish teams, 2 in the Champions league and 3 in the Europa league.
I wonder if that many teams from one league have been left before at this stage of the two competitions?

In the Champions League era, yes. And by "Champions League era" I specifically mean since the Champions League began allowing non-league champions into the fray along with the elimination of the Cup Winners Cup (1998/99).
But prior to that there had been two occasions that I know of when five clubs from one country reached European semifinals:

    1978/79 - Bundesliga
European Cup - 1. FC Köln
Cup Winners' Cup - Fortuna Düsseldorf
UEFA Cup - Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hertha Berlin, MSV Duisburg

    1979/80 - Bundesliga
    European Cup - Hamburg SV
UEFA Cup - Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart. (A fifth Bundesliga side, Kaiserslautern, was eliminated by Bayern in the quarterfinals.)

So 1979/80 would fit the bill of "5 of 8 teams left in Europe are from one league at this stage of the two competitions".
But 78/79 was no mean feat considering only one club from each country qualified for the Champions' and Cup Winners' tournaments.
Serie A clubs did very well in the early-mid 90s but I don't think they ever had five European semifinalists in one season.

The problem for La Liga, no matter how much "quality" or "depth" it has, is the following: La Liga will remain a 2-tier competition as long as there is no revenue sharing.

    Hombres Division: Barcelona, Real Madrid

    Niños Division: the rest

The La Liga season, as it stands now, is nothing more than a glorified exhibition, with only 2 matches out of 380 that matter to the casual fan.

With that said, those 2 matches out of 380 are now "big enough" to be aired on free-to-air U.S. television.

Let's see if Comcast is slick enough to "steal" those 2 matches for Telemundo next season so that Comcast can poke another needle at Univision.

I think what most people are trying to say is that the Spanish league teams are better than the English league teams now. Might be hard to admit for alot of English who I know a majority hate everything about La Liga but the teams are better in Spain then they are in England now. You can not even say England is more competitive anymore because the EPL is a 2 horse race now with City and United. You could even say that La Liga is more competitive from 3rd place down because there are so many teams that can get 3rd or 4th in La Liga compared to only 3 in the EPL. IMO Bundesliga is the most competitive league in Europe but English fans can not be hypocrites and say the EPL is more competitive than La Liga when facts say otherwise and when the EPL is as much a 2 horse league as La Liga now.

I agree, as much as I enjoy the EPL and the Bundesliga, La Liga, at the moment is the strongest league.

Exactly, euro leagues need revenue sharing to eliminate this problem. But since revenue sharing sounds "too American," they will never do it.:(
